Friday Question #56

If your high school had a ten-year (or any year) reunion, would you/did you go? Why or why not?

Heck no, I wouldn’t go.

My high school was kind of in a crappy part of town, filled with crappy students. I probably can’t remember more than a dozen of their names. I don’t think there would be much “catching up” to do if I went back. I don’t think I would be able to relate to many of them.

  1. I live a thousand miles away from where I went to high school. If my 10-year reunion happened at any other time than over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, I probably would not have gone. I went to school in a very snobby town and was more than happy to leave that place behind (forever!) when I went away to college. But, since I was home anyway, I went. With low expectations. And you know what? I HAD A BLAST. The women all looked great (much better than high school). And the guys mostly looked like ass (I had a crush on him? What was I thinking?!?). It was jovial and fun and something I won’t likely forget. I reconnected with a bunch of people, most of whom I didn’t stay in touch with after the reunion. But, that’s ok. It was one, very fun night. Much to my surprise.

Mmmm… MAYBE a 20+ year, but even then it’s doubtful. My 10 year is this year, and even if I’m still living in CO (I hope not!) I won’t be going. I don’t think 10 years is enough for people to change enough for me to want to see any of them, and now with things like myspace and facebook it’s so easy to contact the few people I would ever want to that it’s not necessary to go.

*ahem* Mine already passed–I didn’t go. It was too far, too expensive, and in a crappy venue.
20 year? Maybe. Depends on where I am in life. It’s not too appealing that most of my graduating class only sees you as a success if you’ve married or had babies. Like THAT takes a lot of effort. Sheesh.

I’ve missed two reunions. I had important things going on that made me miss them and I am not actually sad about that.

    Ditto fo’shitto.

    🙂

PS What are you two doing for Spring Break? Kyle and me aren’t going to PC anymore…. Just email me! 🙂

I helped organize our first four reunions (5, 10, 15, 20) so there was good and bad at all of them. The best part about the early reunions was talking to people I didn’t know in high school. There’s something great about seeing someone who was really shy and awkward walk into a room with confidence. In later years, it was nice to see people who hadn’t been to any of the others.

Our 20-year was so great, my circle of friends didn’t even go to the 25-year reunion. We were burned out. Three of us skipped out and went to Applebee’s instead.

  7. My 10 yr reunion was in November and it was just at a local bar. I didn’t go because I just moved about an hr or so away from the venue and my weekends were busy settling into my new place. I wasn’t really interested since I keep in touch with some HS people via facebook. That’s enough for me. My twin bro went and gave me the scoop. He was my rep. : )

  8. Kyra says:

NO way. I left far too many people who hated me behind, and hated far too many of the people I left behind… heh. 😉 In all seriousness, the people I’m the most curious about were never close, and the people I never want to see again were. I don’t want to go back – ever.

But I’d be totally up for a PG blogger gathering… I think we should have blogging reunions instead. 😉

I went to my 5,10,15 and 20 yr. class reunions. The people that were stuck up and clique in high school were still that way. I didn’t go to 25,30 or 35(just this past year). Both the 30 and the 35 were set to take place in a bar. BFD!! After 35 years, all they can come up with for an agenda, is meeting in a bar??? Thanks but no thanks, I’ll skip it. I would guess that the “pretty people” are still stuck up anyway.

Supposedly, the 40 yr. is going to be better, more well planned. I’ll take the “wait and see” attitude. 2013 is a long way off. 🙂

  10. Kevin says:

10 yr – ha, my 20 is this year. Why will I not be going – because that part of my life is LONG gone. Also, I don’t want to taint my memories with updated versions. I want to remember the things that happened, the people that were as they were in 1989.

  11. JavaQueen says:

I wouldn’t go because all the girls that I was close with I still call and email today- all the important people to me are ones I still keep in contact with 🙂

  12. I went to my 10 year, but pretty much only hung out with the people that I was already keeping in touch with…

  13. martymankins says:

I went to my 5 year. It’s wasn’t much different than high school. Since then, I’ve not gone to any. I almost went to my 25th, but time and money didn’t work out for that. My 30 year is in 2 years (yes, that does make me old) and I’m planning on going to that one.

  14. tori says:

I didn’t go to mine. I went to 3 different high schools and while the one I graduated from was the one I identified as “home”, I figure if I don’t keep in touch with the people already, why would I waste my time? I barely get a second to go out and do anything alone/with just my husband and I didn’t want to waste it talking to people I don’t even really know. Maybe I’d feel differently if I had more time to myself? If I was more curious? Who knows.

  15. Bethany says:

Nah, I wouldn’t go…since I was homeschooled that would just mean visiting with my family and I already do that 😉

  16. nope, i didn’t go!!! i keep in contact with the people i want to keep in contact with… the rest of them, no thanks!!! that could be a bad attitude to have but high school was not a favorite part of my life!!
    =^..^=

  17. kaylen says:

High school was not a super-fun time for me either.
I would be inclined to go if I was in better shape and if i had a hunky-hunky man on my arm and diamonds dripping off me.
Otherwise, I’m connected to a lot of people from high school on Facebook and I talk to the ones I had a connection with-I wouldn’t pay the costs of going to a reunion to see the group as a whole though,

  18. beth says:

NO – haven’t been to any and do not intend to go to future ones. There are tons of people now on Facebook linked to my High School and just scrolling through that list reminds me of why I would not go. No one there really meant much to me, the very few that were stand outs I already keep in touch with. I wouldn’t say that high school was high point of my life.
