Data to the Dentist

My poor little baby Data-Lore has an appointment with the veterinarian on Monday to get his teeth cleaned, and probably some removed.

Who, me?

Yes, you. (My special little kitty who likes to chew on our grocery bags. And has rotten breath.)

I’m kind of freaked out, because he’ll be at the vet ALL DAY. And he has to go under anesthesia. Steven is going to be the one dropping him off and picking him up. I am just not emotionally strong enough to do that – leave him there. I have to look away now when the vet gives him shots. I even had to look away when they took his temperature! I don’t like to see his sad little face.

One time, while working on the cat shelter in Rome, I had to feed a cat with a broken jaw. We put soft food in a little plastic syringe and then would squeeze it into its mouth. Well, I accidentally squeezed it all over the cat’s face, and just starting crying.

So… I suck at stuff like this. I’ll have to keep myself very distracted on Monday so I don’t start to worry about him.

Hey, do real parents, of humans, get annoyed when people call their pets their “babies”? Tell me the truth! Muah ha ha! Because I’ve got to be honest with you, at home, Steven’s “daddy,” I’m “mommy” and Data’s “son” (and on special occasions, “shitbox”).

I do not get annoyed when people call their animals their babies. But then again when we used to have a dog I used to be her mom and my husband was her dad.

I used to get so sad when our dog got shots. I almost felt as bad as when my kids get them now. I have such a hard time when someone, anyone, animal or human is hurting or going through something not so fun.

  2. VENTL8R says:

Nto so much, but when they insist on dressing up their animals and having weddings for them, that’s a little too much.

  3. sizzle says:

    Shitbox! Ha ha.

I call my cats my babies and refer to me as pet mama. Hey, I don’t have kids and they are the closest thing I have.

  4. diane says:

Well, you are not too far off…I read an article recently that said the domestication of the cat has caused them to bond to their owners like surrogate moms and actually causes them to live/behave in something of an extended kittenhood.I refer to myself as their Mama but don’t usually call them daughters…mostly “the girls” or “my kitty girls”.
I hope Data does well and his Mommy isn’t too stressed on Monday!

  5. JavaQueen says:

Aw, he’ll be all better when they’re done working on him. Those teeth in his mouth that don’t belong must be bothering him… You are a good pet owner. And, I never get annoyed with people who call their pets their kids- I’m so attached to ours I cannot even explain it. They are my little furbabies! ๐Ÿ™‚

  6. Mica says:

Aww, Data will be fine! I bet he’ll be back from the vet in now time, no worries!

  7. Kyra says:

No, it doesn’t bother me. The only time it bothers me is when people say “I KNOW what it’s like to have kids already! I have a dog! (or cat)” THAT ticks me off. Oh, and the dressing up for the wedding that people have mentioned… that just disturbs me.

I can totally relate to “shitbox”.

I got Ashley Cat before I had my kids. I used one of my kid names on her. Then when I actually got preggers I was like, “crap, what are we gonna name this kid NOW!”

I used to think of her as our baby, so I guess I can see both ends of the spectrum. It doesn’t really annoy me, but I think that some people could really use a reality check when it comes to their pets.

I have a hard time when the cats get treatment. Ashley is 16 years old and is losing control of her body. I have a feeling that the ‘put the cat to sleep’ conversation is around the corner……but who am I to decide that she should go? I don’t know how to face that problem, but she is definately a steaming pile of shit lately. I don’t know what to do. I don’t feel it is my right to send her off, but then again when you have shit in your shoes……I just feel really bad for her. I can’t imagine how hard it would be to decide to assist her death. Ugh.

My husband gets really upset when anyone refers to him as the “dad” of our dog and her certainly doesn’t use the term himself. I don’t care if someone refers to me as “mom”, but I don’t refer to myself that way.

  10. Manny the cat is my little boy and I’m his Mommy, and Steve is his Daddy. Let me know how the vet goes, as you know, we are currently dealing with the same thing for Manny. Sending Data (and the parents) big hugs.

  11. poor Data!!!! i hope the visit to the vet on monday isn’t tramatic for him!!! you’re such good parents though, taking him to the vet even though it’s so hard!!!! i totally understand about taking Data to the vet… i am the world’s worst… i can’t look when they get shots or get their temperature taken either!!! it just makes me want to cry!!! like Mannyed, i’m sending you, Steven, and Data big hugs!!!!
    =^..^=

i haaaate dropping my pets off at the vet. the first couple times i even cried (is that pathetic?) i still hate to leave them there. hope it went ok!!

  13. Cat. says:

Well, I was going to answer but Tori stole my answer verbatim.

Except, that while I was reading this post I was thinking, “Don’t have any non-furry kids anytime soon. They are constantly banging into things and needing “ow-uhs” fixed.” ๐Ÿ™‚

Good luck, Mr. Data. Your name makes me smile.

  14. Christina says:

LOL Shitbox?! Haha. I hope everything goes okay!! ๐Ÿ™‚ I’m sure it will be fine!!! I bowled a 135 today! ๐Ÿ™‚

  15. kilax says:

tori – I have such a hard time too. I am surprised other people are so brave. I could never be a doctor or a nurse!

VENTL8R – What?! I have never heard of that! Freaky!

sizzle – That is what I think too. Data’s the closest thing to a baby (I’ll probably ever have!).

diane – Aww, extended kittenhood! I wonder if that his how Data feels. Aww.

JavaQueen – I knew YOU would understand! You have the two cutest puppies EVER!!! I hope Data feels better after this operation. I don’t think his teeth are bothering him too much yet, but they look really bad… it’s better to nip it in the butt now.

Mica – You’re right! I’ll probably forget he’s even there!

Kyra – I am surprised people would say that. Seriously. Maybe they were joking? Doubtful!

beth – Oh Beth. I am so sorry about Ashley. That would be such a hard position to be in. You love her, but can’t stand that she can’t take care of herself anymore. I have a friend who gave up her cat because she was so naughty. It makes me really sad, but if you can’t deal with them… ๐Ÿ™ I hope you let Ashely cat live out her life… I hope she gets better… by some miracle.

Erin – Ha ha! I always thought it would bother Steven, but it doesn’t. It would be annoying if someone called you that and you didn’t prefer it.

Gina (Mannyed) – Thanks Gina. I will let you know how it goes! Aww. Little Boy.

CourtneyInControl – Why is it so hard for us! We are such softies ๐Ÿ˜‰

aron – That is NOT PATHETIC at all! I can understand that completely ๐Ÿ™‚

Cat. – Ha ha. If I did have real kids, I would probably have an even harder time taking them to the doctor, and I would be a total wreck the first day of school.

Christina – You don’t like the name?! Ha ha! 135! Awesome… but HEY, I thought you were never going to go bowling again? ๐Ÿ˜›

  16. Stacey says:

I refer to my cats as my fur babies. I don’t have kids yet, so this is as good as it’s going to get for awhile. I don’t call them my “daughters,” but we refer to the Captain as Daddy and me as Mama. Bella, who I’ve had since she could fit in the palm of my hand, I still sometimes call “Baby Girl.” I do not dress them up though. That’s a line of weird I don’t cross.

  17. kilax says:

Stacey – Thanks for stopping by! I don’t dress Data up in full costume, but he has been known to wear a tie from time to time. Damn. I am too weird!
