Friday Question #76

image:Shredded OatsWhat is your favorite (cold) cereal?

You know, the one you could just eat bowls and bowls of*?

I really like Barbara’s Bakery Shredded Oats. They are simple, crunchy little oat nuggets. I like to let them soak in the soy milk just a little bit, then bite into them when they are half crunchy/half soggy. Nom Nom Nom!

The unfortunate thing about this cereal is that it is EXPENSIVE, and somewhat hard to find. They used to sell it at Target, and would have it on sale from time to time… but you know how our Target is. They took it away.

Now I usually get it from my Grandma, who buys it in bulk through a co-op. I don’t think it is that much more cost effective for her, but it is for me – she gives it to me for free**! Too bad I only see her a few times a year.

*I apologize for ending a sentence in a preposition. Sometimes, I don’t know how to get away from it.
**I keep trying to pay her for it, but you know how grandmas are…

I am not crazy about cold cereal, and if I do eat it, I don’t use milk because the whole idea of mushy cereal that is cold is not appealing to me. I do love granola, or any cereal by Kashi though.

I am cracking up about the thing about grandmas. True, definitely true. My husband’s grandma used to take us to Sam’s Club and then not let us pay for anything we got.

  2. Steven says:

Honey Bunches of Goats with Almonds!

  3. sizzle says:

I don’t eat cereal too much lately because I shy away from too much grain BUT when I did eat cereal some of my faves were: Crispix, Rice Krispies, Cheerios and Special K.

    I miss corn.

  4. Jess says:

The only cold cereal I like is plain Cheerios. Lucky for me because they are easy to find, and cheap at Costco.

  5. Christina says:

I just wanted to let you know that I am so offended by you ending that sentence with a preposition. Next time please be more careful.

Me scuzi, I miss you sister. Donk 🙁 My favorite cereal is Cinnamon Honey Comb!

  6. Etta says:

At the store the other day, I was all set to buy some Special K. Then I remembered that Special K has no flavor and that’s no way to start one’s day. So I bought Total instead. It’s delicious. I definitely did not expect it to taste as good as it does.

  7. Christina says:

I am a sucker for Golden Grahams but I haven’t eaten it in years!

It’s kind of a toss between Special K Red Berries and Frosted Flakes, you’ll have to read the post for more information 🙂

    Happy Friday!

  10. Holly says:

Puffins! And Kashi Golden Sunshine (I think that’s it…the one that looks like Captain Crunch?). I don’t ‘allow’ myself to buy the PB Puffins, though, as anything PB flavored in my house is gone is 2 days.

  11. Jen512 says:

Lucky Charms…and I don’t feel one bit guilty for admitting that! My parents were health nuts when I was growing up, so after being raised on those nasty bulk “oaty-o’s” that would scrape your throat on the way down, I latched on to sugar cereals when I was older and never looked back.

I really love any cereal though, on the healthier side I love granola and raisin bran. Barbara’s also makes the Puffins cereal that I have eaten by the handful with no milk needed. I especially love the peanut butter flavored Puffins! I’m with you on the soy milk with cereal, it’s yummy! One of the good things I got from my health nut parents. Rice milk I can do without though, yuck.

  12. Jenn says:

I don’t like cereal enough to eat it often, maybe a few times a year, but when I do I prefer Chex (rice variety only) with bananas. I also prefer it with fat free half and half, because I hate milk, so it’s probably good that I don’t eat it often!

  13. I have just started on cold cereal—Kashi Go Lean right now, but only 1/2 c in my yogurt…

  14. diane says:

If I’m being good, it’s Kashi Go Lean Crunch (and like Hotch Potch, I sometimes mix it in with some fruit and yogurt–yum!!).
If I’m being bad, which I haven’t done with cereal for a very long time, it’s Corn Pops. Or Peanut Butter Crunch. Or Frosted Mini Wheats, especially the blueberry muffin flavor. YUM!

  15. Carol says:

I eat All Bran, extra fiber. It tastes like cardboard but it keeps me regular. Nothing worse than having to “go” on a run. I think once anyone becomes a runner they get a special appreciation for “regularity” LOL!

  16. Mica says:

Those look like Quaker Toasted oatmeal squares, which is definitely one of my favorite cereals. As in…I can’t keep it around or I just eat it ALLLL!

  17. Erin says:

I pretty much like all cold cereal. My favorite, though, might be the generic frosted mini wheats. I always buy them when I’m at the store. I also like the Quaker Toasted Oatmeal Squares that Mica mentioned, but I hardly every buy them. I should start!

  19. Denise says:

I love Kashi Go Lean Crunch and Brown Sugar Shredded Wheat. YUM YUM I like cereal BEFORE it loses it crunch. No soggy cereal please!

  20. E says:

Ending a sentence with a preposition is an affront to the English language about with which I will not put-up! (paraphrasing Winston Churchill, though quoting the last few words)

I eat Cheerios more than any other cereal. But Kix reminds me of when I was a kid and would eat that cereal with blueberries my mom would add. And Rice Chex is good as a late-night cereal…

  21. Susan says:

I do like Lucky Charms, but I hardly ever eat them. Honey Bunches of Oats! I eat much more granola now…yogurt + granola + fruit = fantastic.

  22. Bethany says:

    Lucky Charms (sad, I know!)

  23. aron says:

i looooooooooove cereal!!!! kashi go lean crunch is my #1 🙂

  24. martymankins says:

My all time favorite is Lucky Charms. Hands down, the best ever. Trix and Frosted Mini Wheats are 2nd and 3rd.
