Chocolate on Valentine’s Day?

By , February 14, 2011 12:34 pm

Don’t mind if I do.

My awesome coworker made vegan peanut butter cups to bring to the office for Valentine’s Day. How sweet is she?!

I kind of mentioned before that I am trying to shed some weight, and one of the ways I do that is by cutting back on my “sweets” consumption. Because, yeah. I can really eat a lot of sweets. Like, an obscene amount – what most people consume in a month, I could probably consume in a day. What can I say? I have a major sweet tooth!

But I’ve been trying to control it, by having tea instead of sweets. And it’s working. But today?* I think I may have a peanut butter cup. Or two. Or three.

Do you have a sweet tooth? Do you try to not eat too many sweets?

Do you think you’ll have any sweets today?

*And I am TOTALLY going to Babycakes in NYC with Gina!!!

  1. Oh I have an awful sweet tooth. When others talk about reaching that “sugar high”, I’m like “I don’t know what you’re talking about- think I’ll have another…”

  2. J says:

Yeah I could eat a ton of sweets. Thankfully no one brought in anything today because I would have eaten A TON!

  3. Erin says:

Funny you should mention that…I just had a chocolate covered peanut nougat treat that my boss brought in. Just one, though. Even though it was delicious and I could have eaten more than one.

Chocolate and peanut butter is totally my downfall.

I will keep that in mind… Erin can be bribed with chocolate and pb… 😛

I actually only ate half of one of these, at home. I just can’t stop once I start. Lame.

I feel you pain! I have such a sweet tooth! Right now breast feeding is allowing me to get away with it. But I’d better watch it…. Can’t be nursing this kid forever!

  5. cindy says:

OMG I have a mouth full of sweet teeth. I have been known to hide chocolates in my dresser drawer for just an emergency.
I know I’ll have sweets today because after I left boot camp I headed for the cupcake shop and bought four for a Valentine treat.

  6. RunningLaur says:

I have seriously the WORST sweet tooth lately. I can down pound after pound of sugary sweets – that being said, I don’t know that I have any sweets in the house right now (all eaten) so I might not eat any today!
[I did try to make a super sugary shoofly pie this morning but ended up spilling it all over the inside of the oven and ruining it 🙁 so no pie]

  7. Erin says:

Oh, I can put sweets away like its my job. I blame it on my parents and NEVER keeping sweets in the house when I was a child. Really though, its all me! I can’t say no!!!!

  8. Mica says:

I already had sweets. A friend made that “puppy chow” chex mix. Mmm, it was good, but it kind of derailed my “cut back on sugar” plans.

I have a sweet tooth, way more than I used to. I was filling out a “habits” survey at the gym yesterday, and I checked most of the healthy habit boxes (e.g., working out, getting sleep, drinking water). Then it said “I rarely consume high fat desserts.”

    Rarely? Hm…

  9. Michel says:

Are you in my house? My husband is worse than me. I indulge once a week if that. Do you know what I got for Valentines Day? A big red heart of Russell Stovers chocolates from him. WTH. For Christmas when I was pregnant with our second child and had to watch my weight really carefully I got 6 months of a monthly Godiva fix. WTH. So he does not help at all.
And like I am trying to loose weight and have been doing good on focusing on the prize but this did not help today. grrr.

    • kilax says:

Yeah, I didn’t make any cookies or anything for my husband because I know he is trying to watch what he eats. You have to support each other! Even when it kind of sucks 😉

I have a HUGE sweet tooth! I’m SO excited (and a little jealous) that you’re going to Babycakes in NY!

  11. Kandi says:

I do love me some sweets but I don’t usually go overboard. That being said, I made sure to plan a dessert course for our dinner tonight. We are making a dessert pizza with a sugar cookie crust, mascarpone cheese “sauce”, strawberries, blueberries, and a drizzle of melted chocolate. Yum!

  12. diane says:

    Aw, that’s sweet! (pun intended)
I have a BAD sweet tooth. Yesterday though I made oreo-stuffed chocolate chip cookies for work (per my co-workers request) and I was so sick of chocolate and exhausted from how much work they were that I don’t even want to touch them or anything sweet today. I told my co-worker those cookies are totally my new diet plan!
But…I’m having dinner at a fondue restaurant tonight…and what kind of a jerk doesn’t eat chocolate fondue at a fondue restaurant??

    • kilax says:

      How was dinner?

Whenever I bake a bunch of sweets I don’t want to eat them either. I guess I DO have a sugar limit (maybe 20 cookies or something!).

  13. Felicia says:

Mine is carbs (potatoes specifically) so today I allowed myself a few hashbrowns mixed with my asparagus and onions for dinner 🙂 Sweets I could take or leave—Fiber One 90 calorie oats and chocolate usually cover that for me once a week 🙂

  14. I have SUCH A HUGE SWEET TOOTH! It’s a problem really. And I agree, I could eat the same amount of sweets in a month that most eat in a day! I just love sweet treats so much and I CRAVE something sweet after almost every meal.

It’s something I’m working on because it’s definitely a MAJOR reason I’m still packing around the extra 5 pounds. What kinds of things are you doing to try and cut back?

    • kilax says:

The first thing I’ve done to cut back is to not have a sweet treat every day (sometimes more than once). And instead of having a big afternoon snack, I am having a cup of tea. And, just not stuffing my face. I am a bit of a binger. It’s hard!

  15. I got the Babycakes cookbook from the library a few months ago and didn’t want to give it back! Everything was so yummy from the cookbook so I can’t even imagine what it would be like at the actual place.

Yesterday I was rummaging around in my kids halloween candy bags. I ate a bunch of stuff but complained the whole time that there was no “good” candy left. Of course not! It is February and halloween was in october! I did manage to eat a lot of candy even though there wasn’t anything I really liked.

  16. gina says:

Awesome co-worker! Can’t wait to go to Babycakes with you! WAHOOO!

  17. Melissa says:

A little late to the game, but had to confess that I definitely have a sweet tooth. I try not to bring stuff in the house b/c it doesn’t stand a chance between me and Matt. I mean really, it’s pretty disgusting that I have little to no portion control with stuff like that. Thank God the candy bowl at work is at the receptionists desk and she will often make comments when you go to get stuff so it’s really disincentivizing to partake!

  18. People think I am lucky because I do not have a sweet tooth but the thing is, I like so much other junk food so it all evens out. I would take chips over sweets but thats not exactly healthy, ya know!

  19. Holly says:

Um….YES. I have a HUGE sweet tooth! I could never eat salty foods again and be perfectly okay with that. But sweets? I have to have some every.single.day!

  20. Laura says:

You’re substituting sweets with tea?!?! Well that just won’t do at all! I’m pretty sure I probably eat my body weight in sweets everyday. I’ve basically signed myself up for diabetes. Oh well…

  21. Bethany says:

Well I made chocolates with the kids on Valentine’s Day so yes, I had sweets 😉
I love sweets WAY too much though.

  22. Kate says:

Oh boy. I have a serious sweet tooth. SERIOUS. Even when I ban sweets from my house for a while (which I’m doing right now … as soon as I finish those bag of cookies in the freezer), I still manage to get my hands on them. It’s a sickness. A hereditary one, I’m sure, inherited from my mom who has a drawer full of chocolate right next to her bed. At least I don’t drink Kool-Aid by the pitcher anymore. Progress.

    • kilax says:

My mom used to make my dad a tall mug of kool-aid every day to take to work (like, way back in the day) before she realized how bad it is for you (if you drink so much).

I totally inherited my sweet tooth too!
