Training Week 102

By , October 2, 2011 4:25 am

I am training for the NYC Marathon on November 6th. This is the week of the Milwaukee Marathon (October 2nd).

Day 708 | September 26, 2011: cross

I rode the recumbent bike during lunch. I don’t really consider type of workout to be of any benefit to me… except curing the boredom of sitting at my desk during lunch!

Bike Time: 40:00 | Distance: 5.81 | Resistance Level: 5.0

Day 709 | September 27, 2011: strength + 4 m run

I had a strength session with Brian as soon as I got home at 6:00. I told him I had a marathon coming up and asked him not to wear down my legs so much. We did a core-centric workout, using a ball, some fun stretchy resistance bands (the type you attach to a door) and weights. I feel like I am getting better at my strength sessions and this is only the third one (back at it, I mean)!

As soon as Brian left I bolted out the door for a 4 mile run. When I started it was light out and overcast, and when I ended it was dark and raining. And I had left my visor at work. And I forgot my blinking LED lights in the house. Oops. It also seems I was running during the time when people get home and don’t look before they pull in to their driveway, but luckily, I didn’t get hit by a car.

I am kind of bummed it is dark out at 7:00 now. Sure it makes me feel all cozy at night… but lazy too!

As soon as I finished running I took a quick shower then sped to the airport to pick up Steven. How is that for an evening?!

Distance: 4.0 | Temp: high 50s? | Time: 39:27 | Avg Pace: 9:51 | 1: 10:30 | 2: 9:50 | 3: 9:35 | 4: 9:28

Day 710 | September 28, 2011: 3 m run

Another run in the rain… but not in the dark! And I had my visor on this time.

Distance: 3.0 | Start Temp: 58° | End Temp: 56° |  Time: 29:44 | Avg Pace: 9:53 | 1: 10:09 | 2: 9:49 | 3: 9:43

Day 711 | September 29, 2011: rest

Day 712 | September 30, 2011: 2.5 m run

The sun finally came out (after not seeing it for four days), but with it, came the wind. I felt comfortable in a short sleeved shirt, but that wind was brutal!

Distance: 2.5 |  Start Temp: 49° | End Temp: 49° | Time: 24:13 | Avg Pace: 9:41 | 1: 9:58 | 2: 9:34 | 3: 4:40

Day 713 | October 1, 2011: 3 m run

Last run before the marathon! Erin and I picked up our packets then came back to my place and did an easy short run to loosen up for the race!

Distance: 3.0 |  Temp: high 50s  | Time: 28:47 | Avg Pace: 9:35 | 1: 9:34 | 2: 9:34 | 3: 9:37

Day 714 | October 2, 2011: Milwaukee Marathon (26.35 miles – I need to learn to run the tangents!)

Week Summary: 38.85 miles

Fairly easy week… in prep for the marathon! I can’t wait to run it! Erin and I are up early today to ride to Milwaukee, and off running at 7:30 (not 8:00, but 7:30 – they were very clear about the start time!)!

I love the race shirt! And the fact that they gave us a reusable ice pack – I actually needed a new one (fyi: an old ice pack may not hold up if you stand on it).

A reusable ice pack is nice SWAG, thats a keeper. Usually I throw 99% of the SWAG away. Thinking of you this morning and hope that the race is going well!
