Friday Question #170

By , November 11, 2011 10:36 am

Yikes! Haven’t done one of these in about a month! I think I’ve lost my blogging mojo.

When you travel, do you ever send out postcards from your travel destination? Do you like receiving postcards?

Steven and I attended a comedy show last night and one of the comedian’s jokes was about how lame it is to send postcards. It was kind of a weak joke but we were laughing and smiling at each other because I had just dropped some off at the mailbox that morning!

So, I still send them. And like to receive them. I never know what to write on them though! There is not enough space to go in to any detail!

I never send them. My husband’s family always sends them, guess it’s just what people like to do!

  2. I have not sent a postcard since 2002 when I lived in Italy. But I like the thought of them. I think it’s still fun to receive snail mail — and would love to receive them.

  3. Melissa says:

I like postcards but I almost never send them. We actually thought about it in Argentina but then we couldn’t figure out the whole postage thing so we just abandoned the idea since it was not worth stressing.

I always send postcards! I always send one to my parents, grandparents, and now my in-laws. My grandparents can’t travel any longer and they love seeing where we go, even if it’s just to the zoo. I generally end up mailing them after we get home, but that’s okay.

I send postcards every single trip I take. An overnight to Tampa? POSTCARDS! Two-and-a-half week vacation? POSTCARDS AT ALL FIVE STOPS! My hundredth trip to Chicago? POSTCARD EVERY TIME! If something ever happens and I end up dying far from home, I want people I care about to know I was thinking about them. It only takes a couple minutes, so it’s not a big deal. My grandmother has books filled with postcards I’ve sent her over the years, and I can’t imagine not continuing that. As for receiving postcards? Of course I love them! Who doesn’t like getting a postcard? 🙂

  6. Erin says:

I only send them to the one person I know who collects them. At least, I think she still collects them. Until I hear otherwise I’ll keep sending them to her!

  7. Jillian says:

I have a graffiti tag that is a dog smoking a pipe, and my friend who recently moved a few hours away found a postcard with a dog smoking a pipe on it and sent it to me! So sweet and thoughtful. I’m going to go send some mail today 🙂

I haven’t sent postcards in ages but a college friend of mine collected post cards so I used to send them to her or bring them back for her all the time. I should start sending postcards to my nieces! I think they would love to get mail.

I LOVE postcards. I never know what to do with them when I receive them, but they still make me happy.
I think all forms of “snail mail” are valuable and sweet (well, excluding bills and junk mail, obviously). The only funny thing about post cards is that I swear unless I send them on the first day of my trip, about 90% of the time I get home before they get to their destination. 🙂

  10. Michel says:

i would love to get them! Nobody I know travels anymore though!

  11. Kristina says:

Totally love postcards! I definitely send them if I’m someplace cool and it is exciting to me.

  12. ChezJulie says:

I send postcards if I go somewhere cool. I like to get them, except sometimes they make me jealous because I love to travel.

  13. Holly says:

I always do!! I love it!

  14. Courtney says:

I love postcards!!! Although like you said, I never know what to write on them!!

When my mom was alive and I traveled a lot in the 80’s and 90’s, I sent a good number of postcards from where I was to her. It was pretty cool. Now I just take my own photos. I do miss looking at the postcard stands at gift shops these days.

  16. Susan says:

My dad sends me postcards when he travels…I love it! People never send snail mail anymore…
