Friday Question #203 / SockGuy Giveaway WINNER

By , August 24, 2012 6:28 am

Do you think the top bed sheet is necessary or unnecessary? (not the fitted sheet, but the one on top of that – the loose one)

This photo is totally posed. I mean, besides the fact that it was after I got back from a run and had taken a shower (I told Steven to hurry up and take the photo, because I felt so nice and comfy that I may fall asleep for real) – I don’t use the top sheet. I sleep on top of it. Or, with it bunched up between me and Steven. I just use a fleece blanket and the fitted sheet below.

I don’t get rid of my top sheets though! That is what prompted me to ask this question. I was talking to my mom and Erin about people we know that do not use top sheets, and my mom said that she knows someone who sold all of theirs at a garage sale because they had no use for them!

Thank you to everyone who entered the SockGuy Giveaway!!! The winner was #24 – Molly, who chose the Channel Air Pink Lime socks. Molly, please send me your mailing address (kilax@ilaxstudio.com) and I will order the socks for you!

I’m a top sheet girl 🙂 But none of my kids are. Skipping it is actually rather practical from a laundry and making the bed point of view. Happy Friday!!! (I didn’t enter the SockGuy giveaway because they still don’t have forest green argyle socks to match my biking kit – boo hoo poor me 🙂

Ha! That is a very good point, re: laundry. I wish I could get my husband on board with that.

We need to recommend those socks to them!

      Happy Friday to you too!

Do you not use it because you perfer the feel of the fleece against you?!
I sleep under a top sheet.

  3. gina says:

I have a top sheet but I always seem to kick it to the bottom of the bed while I sleep. I’ve been doing this since I was little, but still always make the bed with a top sheet.

    {Hi Kate!)

  4. Jenn says:

Nope, no top sheet for me. I’m the only one of my friends that doesn’t use it though and they all think I’m crazy! I think it stemmed from having a cat when I was a kid. When I was sleeping, he would jump and bite my toes through the top sheet and after awhile I gave up on the thin sheet and just used a blanket/comforter so he couldn’t get me. Have been doing that ever since, even in the summer!

OMG! That is such a good point! My fleece blanket protects me a lot more from Data’s middle of the night quests than a top sheet ever would. LOL!

I sleep under a top sheet, but except for Jack, my kids are all like you. With James, I don’t even put it on the bed, and the girls’ ends up bunched up by their feet. I thought they were all weirdos, but I’m seeing that this isn’t at all uncommon. Maybe I’ll just ditch it altogether…

  6. sizzle says:

I love my top sheet. When it’s too hot, I just use that instead of the comforter. Plus, it’s easier to wash frequently and not wear out.

  7. The top sheet is so unnecessary! I’ve never been a fan. Give me a blanket and I’m good to go. Have a great weekend, friend! 🙂

  8. Erin says:

Loooove the top sheet. Perfect for when it’s warm out but you still need the comfort of something on you. Great for winter because it adds another layer of warmth.

  9. ChezJulie says:

The top sheet is as unnecessary as the appendix! End your dependence on this useless linen forthwith!

Seriously, I never use a top sheet. I prefer to have a nice bottom sheet, and then a duvet and blanket on top of me.

  10. I sleep under the top sheet. I’ve never really considered not sleeping under it…

I’ve got a comforter over it, but if I didn’t have the top sheet I’d feel the need to wash the comforter way more often. I wash the sheets and pillowcases all the times. I understand the germs and cooties are probably on the pillows and comfortors too, but the sweat, dirt, cookie crumbs and other stuff are on the sheets and when I wash them I get that stuff off. (Or at least in my head I think I do!).

  11. Etta says:

We use it. My husband likes to cover up, but some nights the blanket is too much, so he just uses the sheet. Also, I wash my sheets weekly, but the comforter monthly. The top sheet protects the comforter from getting dirty.

  12. Jen says:

I’m with Etta and Gary. I like to change the sheets every few days but I only wash my comforter cover every 2 weeks. Nothing like slipping between clean sheets!

  13. Pam says:

omg, I can’t imagine NOT using the top sheet! I use the top sheet, a knit blanket, and the comforter! Yes, all three, even in the summer. I have to have my room cold but plenty of covers to snuggle under.

  14. maggie says:

I use the top sheet because its easier to wash that instead of a quilt or comforter. We do not have a duvet or whatever the thing is that goes over a plain comforter. Plus I prefer layers of thinner blankets instead of a thick one.

  15. I am a crazy sleeper! I go from back to stomach a lot so I wake up wrapped in the top sheet like a burrito and Rich has NONE! So maybe he can use your extra top sheets!!!

  16. J says:

I sleep under the top sheet and like it. Its so comfy! In the summer I just sleep with the sheet on, in the winter I have the sheet, blanket and the down comforter.

  17. Courtney Ilax says:

Ha Ha Kim! I did sell all my top sheets at the garage sale. I don’t use them and I seem to collect a lot of them so might as well sell them 🙂

  18. Amy says:

We use duvets with covers, so we don’t have top sheets. Makes it real easy to make the bed in the morning too!

  19. Losing Lindy says:

This time of the year, the top sheet is my blanket. I can’t sleep without being covered up.

  20. Meghan says:

I’m weird. I always need the comforter and top sheet because I am always freezing! Oy!

  21. Molly says:

I didn’t ever use top sheets until I got married. Let’s call it a marital “compromise!”

And YIPPPPEEEE!! I won. Woo Hooo. 🙂 I’m emailing you now.

  22. I actually used to do the same thing you did when it comes to that sheet. But now I sleep under it. To be honest I can’t remember when this transition happened but part of me wonders if it was when I got married…..
