Notes:

  • I always thought it odd that my running club does organized speedwork in the summers… when it is so dang hot. I like to do my speedwork in the winters, so it’s bearable. Derp. Maybe doing it in the summer would make me a better hot weather runner. Me so brilliant (unfortunately, speedwork clashes with my Wednesday night class, so going to the organized workout is not an option anyway!).
  • I don’t know why I felt so frustrated with the humidity this week. Ugh. Immediately after starting to run, sweat would drip down my arms. Yuck. I just wanted it to freakin’ RAIN already. Sigh. Sigh sigh sigh. The good news is… a breeze is appreciated this time of year! Ha ha.

It was really humid this week…but the forecast for this upcoming week looks a lot cooler!! Perhaps we can squeeze in a run this Friday?! 🙂

Yes! I like the way you think! I am waiting to hear back about some morning plans. At what time would you be free Friday?

  2. Kimberly says:

My club’s organized speed work is not only in the summer but in the evening. Why the hell would I want to run 400s when it’s 90° in 90% humidity and full sun at 5:30 p.m.?

  3. Heather says:

The weather was just so weird this week and I think that made it harder to cope with than it should have been – the ups and downs, then the hots with humidity…I know at least for me it was hard for my body to keep pace with the weather, let alone the run!

And it was SO cool to see you today – I have two things to say:

    1) I don’t know what this means but your voice totally sounded like I thought it would. When you called out my brain immediately went, “OMG it’s Kim!”

    2) I had a small pack of oreos in my water belt for you because I remembered they were vegan 🙁 I thought you’d be at a water stop (course director didn’t even occur to me!) and I’d have a minute to talk to you since I was walking through all the water stops – I passed you so quickly my brain didn’t catch up in time and I was a quarter of a mile away when I finally remembered WHY I wanted to see you at a water stop.

I guess that means we definitely need to meet, because I now still have cookies for you.

That is too funny that my voice sounded how you thought it would! Ha ha – and it was getting a bit worn out by then from all the cheering.

You are so sweet to bring those! We should meet up! I have every other Friday off – maybe we can meet on my next one (that isn’t booked with plans) – 6/21?

      • Heather says:

Sorry this took so long to get back to you, I didn’t want to say “maybe!” because I would have felt lame, haha and needed to figure out my schedule because we’re going out of town this month and I wasn’t sure what weekend. Fridays are the one day my daughter doesn’t have school this summer, so if you want to meet to run (I’m a slow poke though so I know I am no fun to run with – my husband won’t/can’t do it anymore, especially as my intervals are slowing down) it couldn’t be during the day. I could do lunch on the 21st if you’re okay hanging out with a 4 year old too (she’s pretty cool, I promise!) or dinner that evening once my husband my husband is home.

I have a very strong dislike for the humidity this week! Both Thursday and Saturday were ridiculously humid. Yuck!

  5. Pam says:

I do no speed work before October! Mostly because it’s hot, but also because our only track goes around the high school football field, and it’s always littered with high school kids before football season ends.

  6. Michel says:

The humidity sucks ass. We finally got our air working and it gets cold. Damn it! lol

  7. Brittani says:

Running items we can agree on: humidity is not a friend and nor are whiny knees. Despite those, you still put in a strong week! Nice work, lady.

  8. Chris says:

I cannot believe that Monday run was this week, because it seems like such a long time ago.

  9. Erin says:

Volunteering at a race totally counts as a workout! At least it does in my book 🙂

  10. Declan says:

I’m the opposite with speedwork! Over the winter, I could not get limbered up enough to get my speed up. Once it got above 40 or 50, it popped right back up!

But the sweating isn’t the funnest. I always wonder how so many people I see outside aren’t flicking the sweat off or look all grungy like me! Although I have read that people that sweat more might be in better shape as your body isn’t sure if you are going to be running for an hour or just go up some stairs so it turns on the A/C!

    • kilax says:

I also wonder about people who don’t seem to get sweaty, as well. I remember reading something like that! I should look in to this more 😉

  11. Anne says:

That’s basically how I felt when I was running on Wednesday night after work. It was so humid out! I remember running on a hot day ONCE last summer and deciding summer running just wasn’t for me, so I admire that you still persist in running through the summer 🙂
