Whom do you resemble?

Do you think you resemble one of your parents more than the other? If so, which one?

Dad, me and Mom

We met our friends’ newborn last night, so of course, we were talking about whose features he has, and it made me think about whose I have.

It’s funny – I can pick up facial features on other people, and say “Oh yeah, you look (or don’t look) like your mom (or whomever)!”  But for some reason, I can’t seem to analyze my features with my own family, especially my siblings. People tell us we look similar, but I look at pictures of us and don’t see it.

But this post is about parents, not siblings.

Dad and me

I think I resemble a mix of both of them.

Me and Mom (and Steven)

But there is this one picture of my mom when she was younger that I think I look SO MUCH like, that I have to say, I think I might resemble her a bit more. Or maybe I just think that because I smile a lot like she is in that photo! Or… because we are both female and it’s easier for me to see the resemblances.

I definitely see a mix of both in you. Although I agree maybe more your mom. People say I look JUST like my mom. Although they also often think my dad’s sister is my mom.

  2. Christina says:

I think I have mom’s eyebrows, lips, chin, and big feet, and dad’s nose, ears, and big head. I think my eyes and eye shape are similar to both. 🙂 I think for you, it’s more that your skin/hair take after Grandma Tiger’s roots, lighter skin tone (or just not yellow like me), light eyebrows. However, we both have a widow’s peak, and I think that’s from mom’s side. I feel like your nose is different than mom & dad’s, maybe that is from Grandma Tiger’s side as well? As far as the boys, in younger pics of Dad you can TOTES see Anthony & Nick. Our parents are the cutest! <3

Ha! We all got the big feet and big foreheads! 🙂 But yeah, I totes picked up the northern European and you got the Greek. ARE WE EVEN SNISTERS?!?!!?!

I was telling our friends how much Nicky and Thomas look like Dad in their baby pics to Dad’s pics! Those Ilax roots run deep 🙂

  3. Tiina says:

I look a lot more like my mom than my dad, but I look more like my brother than my parents!

  4. Maggie says:

My niece and nephew both look like my brother and my sis-in-law jokes that “no one wants to look like [her].” I think I look like my mom. But I’ve also been told that I look like my dad’s mom. Both are beautiful women, so I’ll take it!

  5. I was actually just talking about this with my husband yesterday. He is one of four kids and facially he looks very similar to his youngest sister and his older brother looks more like the middle sister. He says he knows that’s what people say, but he doesn’t think he’s able to see the resemblance very well because he’s been looking at his siblings for so long and doesn’t have as good of an idea in his mind of what he looks like. I definitely look a lot like my mom and her mother.

    • kilax says:

YES. THAT. I know my older brother and younger snister have similar coloring, and I am more similar to my younger bro…. but I can’t see it much further than that.

  6. My brother and I are carbon copies of our dad. It’s creepy, really.

  7. I’ve been told I look like my mom. Of course I don’t see it. 🙂

You look so much like your mom. And I thought that was you in that photo of her.

  8. Rachel says:

I was kind of convinced that you looked more like your dad until you posted that old picture of your mom! Wow! I totally see it. (and mom is a stone cold fox!)

I think your bros have the same ‘smirk’ as your dad. 🙂

My sis is 99% my mom and I am 99% my dad. It’s kind of scary. There’s a pic of my dad from 8th grade where you’d be convinced it was me if I had short hair. The only trait I have from my mom’s side of the family is the high forehead…not the full lips or stunning eyes that my sis got…so…thanks, mom. hahaha. 🙂

Honestly, it’s fun to be so similar to my dad and his side of family. All of the women on his side are petite with small frames, green eyes and big smiles and it’s an honor to carry those genes.

    • Rachel says:

Oh and Steven closely resembles…a gremlin! hahahah!

    • kilax says:

Isn’t that nuts?! When I first saw that pic, I was like “holy cow!” I couldn’t believe how much I looked like her. And she is a fox!

Ha! The boys totally have the same smirk. They got that from my dad’s dad 🙂

That is interesting that you and your sister are so different! But both so beautiful! 🙂 What color are your sister’s eyes?

HA! And Steven does have some gremlin is his family. Ha. Ha ha.

  9. I don’t think I look like neither I nor my siblings look like either one of our parents! Haha. Even looking at pictures of them at my age (or my siblings’ ages), I don’t see much family resemblance at all 😛 Although I guess I do have my dad’s hazel eyes, so that’s at least something. Growing up I was told that I looked the most like my paternal grandma’s side of the family, though I don’t know if family resemblance goes undiluted through that many generations 😛

  10. Losing Lindy says:

I am a mix as well is V

  11. jan says:

I think you pretty much look exactly like your mom! Then and now! I look like my mom, they say, but it is hard to recognize that in yourself. I can’t see that my kids look like me either but people tell me they do.

  12. Amy says:

That last pic of your mom is so cute! I can definitely see you in her at that age, but I also see your sister. I guess we are all a mix of both parents, right? I have features from both my parents, too. And my kids are a mix of my husband and me.

  13. Stephany says:

Oh gosh, my family has such STRONG genes. My brother and I look like twins, really. My mom and I look so much like each other, and I also look very similar to my father. (Which is weird because my mom + my dad don’t look alike – ha, that would be strange! – ha…) And my nephew looks JUST like my brother did at his age. It’s so crazy! There’s no denying we are family. 🙂

  14. Melissa says:

Love that picture of your mom! I do think you resemble your dad quite a bit though!

I don’t think I look like either of my parents. Just went through and looked at some pictures and not able to really pick out specific features. Oddly enough, I resemble my paternal grandmother a LOT (or at least when comparing photos of us at similar ages) and I have my maternal grandmother’s hands/fingernails (we used to talk about how we were hand twins!).

Do you ever think that (married) couples begin to resemble each other as time goes on? Or maybe it’s a mirroring of body language/facial expressions that come with being with a person for a long time.

    • kilax says:

I don’t think it’s odd that you look more like a grandparent! I bet a lot of people have that! 🙂

Ha ha ha. Hmmm. I think some couples tend to have similar style. yes! Do you see that happening to you? I know I am WAY less groomed than my spouse! And have different taste in clothes. And overall appearance. And act way different. 🙂

  15. Erin says:

You and your mom do look just like one another in that pic! Since I’ve known you I’ve thought you look more like your mom and Christina looks more like your dad but I can’t put my finger on who your brothers look more like. You all have the same nose, though 🙂

  16. Mica says:

Wow, I can definitely see the resemblance between Christina and your mom in that photo. Ha! I remember you telling me once that Christina got all the Greek features, and you got more of the Dutch features. Actually, when I think about it, I’m always like, “Yes, Kim looks Dutch!” but then I don’t actually know what Dutch people look like. And maybe you don’t have Dutch heritage, and I’m just making that up???

  17. martymankins says:

I would have to say my mom is who I most resemble. I never knew my dad (only saw him twice in my life) so it was more of a natural thing to resemble my mom.
