Anniversary Trend

Monday (September 1) was our seven year anniversary!

We celebrated, um, by me running a half marathon? And eating lunch at Red Robiño then going to the Mississippi River Museum…

Ha ha, it was a really fun day! And Steven got me a stuffed otter toy for our anniversary! Yay! Otters!

With our anniversary always falling near Labor Day weekend, I’ve noticed a trend – we tend to either spend it in Guttenberg, Iowa, or at another wedding. I think we’ve only been home one year, and in Kansas City, another year. Because we usually have travel plans, we tend to forget to plan anything “special” for our anniversary. Oops! This year is no different! Maybe we’ll do something this weekend. Or maybe not. I am cool with whatever.

However, I am really craving a vacation for just the two of us. Since we’ve been married, we’ve only done that a few times! Most time off and travel is reserved for seeing family and friends, which we love, but I think that “us” time, where we’re away somewhere together, with no distractions, is important, too.

And speaking of going away, gosh, it feels weird not to have ANY travel on our calendar for the month. Maybe the end of October? Then two trips in December. We traveled so much this summer, it actually feels odd to be home! Let the laziness commence!

Happy to hear you’ll be home more! I love having you guys around! Happy Anniversary (again)!

Happy anniversary! Hope Red Robiño was delicious.

Happy belated anniversary! We almost always plan our vacations around our anniversary, which is May 14th. So that means we’re almost always out of town on Mother’s Day and my Dad’s birthday (May 10th), so we always celebrate them either prematurely or belatedly.

Happy Anniversary you two! It doesn’t really matter how you “celebrate” your anniversary – as long as you are together. 🙂

Happy anniversary!! The stuffed otter is soo cute.
My Mom’s birthday was yesterday and when I asked what she did, she said she mopped the floor. So your plans are much more exciting than hers! 😀
P and I usually get one weekend getaway a year. 🙁 It makes me sad. But work schedules and the difference in time off (he gets bank holidays, I get more actual vacation time) makes it almost impossible to schedule time off together. I guess it’s reassuring that it’s not just us?

Ha ha ha! My grandma’s birthday was Friday and she was all “it’s just another day!” I do NOT want to clean on my birthday. I at least want to relax. 😉

Oh yeah, I bet we are in the majority of not being able to go away. There’s the money issue, too 😉

    Happy anniversary!

It’s probably not quite as severe as labor day, but we got married at the end of July, which also is common for crowded travel destinations and weddings, so I imagine we won’t have a lot of special trips for our anniversaries either!

Happy anniversary, Kim and Steven! Sounds like a good day to me.

Our anniversary is right after Christmas and New Year’s so we’re usually kind of out of steam (and money) by the time it rolls around. We usually just do something we enjoy together rather than going out to a fancy restaurant or anything.

I agree that get-aways together are important. It can reinforce your bond to be together in a new or different place.

  10. Happy Anniversary! We usually travel around our anniversary, too. It is close to thanksgiving so we extend our re-honeymoon trips.,nothing on top for this year yet! Enjoy home!

  11. Mica says:

Happy Anniversary to you and Steven! You’re one of my favorite couples. 🙂 I know what you mean about taking a vacation for just the two of you–I’m really looking forward to it after taking mostly family and friends vacations (not that those aren’t great too!).

I don’t like the pressure to do something really romantic or special on your anniversary. It sounds like you two just enjoy being with each other, if you’re doing something special or not, and that’s what matters!

Aww, thanks! 🙂 I am so happy you guys have a mostly you trip coming up!!!

Yeah, it doesn’t have to be romantic! But I actually do like the idea of doing something different, or SOMETHING. Even a dinner out. But both of us are always like MEH. 🙂

    Happy anniversary to your two.

Happy Anniversary to you and Steven!!

Happy anniversary! I know what you mean about not really planning anything special – but as you are married longer, that will come. We’ll be celebrating 22 years in December and the trip to Japan this fall is a belated 20th anniversary gift to ourselves – a first big, really special trip for just the two of us that doesn’t include visiting family. I am getting so excited about it!

  15. Beth says:

Happy belated anniversary! I hope you two can find a lovely place to take your vacation. It’s nice to get to spend some quality time with your significant other in a fun new place. Beautiful wedding photo at the top, by the way–you had a great wedding photographer!

  16. Kristina says:

Happy anniversary! A half-mary and an otter sounds like a pretty good celebration!
I understand the travel wish – to have a “real” vacation. We travel a lot, which is great, but there is usually a visiting component. I keep thinking that one of these days we’ll have a total vacation, but I’m not sure when that will happen!

  17. Tiina says:

We just took our first “us” vacation and it was wonderful! It’s so hard to get away sometimes though when friends and family are so awesome, too!
