The gift that keeps on giving

By , December 30, 2015 6:24 am

Part of Steven’s brother’s Christmas gift was a blu-ray DVD that we ordered on Amazon. After we ordered it, I got an email that the DVD purchase included a free digital copy (accessible via Amazon Prime) of Kung Fu Panda. Hmm, cool! So a few days after getting the email, we “purchased” the free digital copy.

After doing that, I got another email, that said our purchase of the digital copy of that movie entitled us to a $1 promotional credit to use toward digital music albums or single songs. Schweet! I have a running list of songs I want to download, so I used the credit toward one of those songs.

Then waited to see what Amazon would email me that I was getting for free, next.

Ha ha. Nada. Darn.

I thought it just might keep going on and on, forever – the gift that keeps on giving! Ha.

Watching a movie with Data (and popcorn)… because when I don’t have a relevant photo for the post, you get to see Data!

A few times, while checking out on Amazon, I’ve seen the option to forego the Amazon Prime two-day shipping, and choose standard shipping, with a $1 music credit or a Amazon Pantry credit.

Two-day shipping (when it’s actually two days, ha) is awesome, and that’s part of why we’re Prime members, but I plan to keep an eye out for those music credits and use them when I can. I pay to download so much music for the classes I teach, and those credits would help me big time!

I’ve seen that option for foregoing the 2 day shipping too, and think it’s a great idea. There are a lot of times I don’t need the thing in 2 days but just do it because it’s free through Prime. Though I don’t think I’ve used any of my credits yet! I have to remember to do that.

A lot of times, I don’t need the things that fast either (and really, it’s interesting what this has done to people’s shipping expectations… but that’s a topic for me to NOT talk about, ha ha).

Use those credits! I think they are kind of confusing to use (buying music on there is, in general, to me), but I am still obviously going to do it 🙂

  2. I’ve chosen to forgo the 2-day shipping a few times, but then I keep forgetting to redeem the music credits before they expire! (Amazon probably banks on that, haha).

How do you like your new Blu-Ray? Adam and I are in the market for a new Blu-Ray player, and are trying to take advantage of post-holiday clearance sales. If you have any thoughts or suggestions on the players, they would be much appreciated!

Set a reminder to use them! LOL!!! Or send them to me 😛 JK!

The blu-ray movie was for Andrew, but actually Steven and I did buy a single disk Sony blu-ray player to use while in transition (we aren’t going to set up our 400 disk player until we get to the final house). However, we have no blu-rays, so I can’t really comment on how well or clear it plays them or whatever. LOL!

I’ll have to start paying closer attention to the shipping option! I love free things, but then again, who doesn’t?! 🙂

Cool! Hope you have a very Happy New Year!

  5. I am looking through my emails and I have a promotional credit for Kung Fu Panda too. Must redeem so I can get the free music credit too. 🙂 Oh, and I did not realize I could forgo the 2-day shipping and get music credit too. Thanks!

You’ll have to let me know if it gives you the free music credit when you get the digital copy!

The option isn’t always there if you forgo the two-day shipping… just sometimes. I suppose they have it worked out differently with everyone!

I just opted for a $1 credit to send some stuff to my mom. I don’t actually know where the credits even go, and I don’t use Amazon music. Maybe I can give them to you!

Harrison also downloaded/”purchased” “Kung-Fu Panda.” He said, “What if we are babysitting and the kid really wants to watch that movie?” (Uh, yeah, highly unlikely.) Did you watch it yet? I think it’s kind of silly, and I’m not sure how there are so many follow-up movies!

    • kilax says:

Cool! If you can find a way to give it to me, I will TOTALLY take it. LOL!

LOL! So you guys babysit a lot? Steven watched it… I didn’t, this time, but I have seen it before. I am usually NOT a fan of kids movies. But I did like Inside Out!

So I know I’m late to reading…and commenting…BUT: For as much as you need/like to download music, have you considered Spotify? I don’t know the difference between the plans, but we use the $10/month version—unlimited songs, ability to create playlists, ability to listen to the content offline, etc etc etc plus all the radio functions as well. I really love it (and strongly dislike iTunes) and have found it to be a great solution for my music needs!

    • kilax says:

People have recommended it to me before, and I haven’t looked in to it. I like owning my music and being able to play it whenever I want, and not needing to use data to do so. It sounds like you can with Spotify?

      • Melissa says:

Yes—the ability to download/play music offline was one of the reasons we like Spotify! (Though I’m sure I also use the hell out of some data randomly playing things as much as I want or looking for new versions of songs) That being said, I don’t know if you can export the offline songs out of the Spotify platform, but I haven’t tried or had a need to do that specifically.

I’ve gotten several of those $1 credits over the years. They are nice when you are buying an album that’s $6.99 and then it’s only $5.99.
