The circle of life and all that

By , April 4, 2016 6:28 am

These two beautiful white birds that belong to our neighbor like to visit our pond. We enjoy seeing them!

On Thursday night, we had some other visitors. Coyotes. We heard them three separate times throughout the night.

Then on Friday, only one white bird showed up.

And Saturday.

And Sunday.

And today.

I am really hoping the other bird is off on official bird business. Because my animal loving heart REALLY needs to toughen up, if he/she isn’t!

They are beautiful!! I hope that the other bird is ok too. Could it be that they have a nest with eggs in it that the one is sitting on? Hopefully, that is the case.

I was hoping that… I saw the other bird after the coyote visit in the same spot for two days… and I hope that was why. I figured it they were going to eat it, I wouldn’t see most of its body? But now it’s gone. :-/

Oh I hope it is ok!! Coyotes are mean but I do understand they have to eat, I just don’t like the thought of them attacking something. It is so violent! I get the circle of life thing but I hate thinking of an animal trying to get away from another as it knows what is happening. 🙁

    • kilax says:

Yeah, it’s like, we know it has to happen… we just don’t want to see it. Or know about it. Ha. I could go on here about other animal things, but I won’t.

The worst for me is seeing the other guy by himself on the pond! I wonder if he is missing his buddy!

Oh mo! Hopefully she’s off sitting on a nest, safely away somewhere. We had a duck nest on the side of our driveway last year with 14 eggs. Predators slowly got them all. I tried so hard to cover it when mama duck vacated. As if that would do anything. Sigh.

    • kilax says:

      That’s what I am hoping!!!

Aww man, that’s so sad! You tried. I wish we could talk to them – “I wouldn’t recommend putting your nest here…” lol

The circle of life thing is why Allie’s a strictly indoor cat. We do have coyotes in the area, but we also have so many cars, and driver speed on the street I live on. Nope, she’s not going outside unless she’s in the carrier.

I know everyone has to eat but I just don’t want to think about HOW they get their food. Here’s hoping they are on official bird business (and btw, that made me crack up).

  6. Chaitali says:

Oh, that’s so sad if the other bird didn’t make it. I think somehow the fact that there’s two of them and one keeps showing up makes it sadder. This is one of the reasons we don’t let the cats out on their own. I don’t think we have coyotes but there are foxes.

    • kilax says:

Yeah, that is what is making me so sad – seeing the other one over here every day!

That is a very good reason not to let the cats out!

  7. Michelle says:

awhhhhhhhhhhhhh I would be so sad if something happened to that bird. Praying he is off foraging for food!

  8. Pete B says:

Maybe duck #2 has a minor cold and his owners are tending to him? One can only hope! 🙂

  9. Lauren says:

Good luck duckie!!! Bet we’ll find a dozen ducklings come late April/early May!

  10. Rachel says:

Wasn’t there a bird conference in the city this weekend? Big Bird was the keynote speaker, I think. Or was it Tucan Sam?

    • kilax says:

I thought it was this upcoming weekend. I hope I am just getting the dates wrong and you are right! Maybe they could only afford for one of them to go?

  11. Xaarlin says:

Oh noes! I hope ducky is on vacay. 🙁 that would make me so sad to notice stuff like that. I hope he shows up soon!

  12. Karen says:

    Awwww, poor duck 🙁

  13. Sadface. Hope it’s off on official business too. In a suit and tie carrying a briefcase because that makes me giggle and not sad about what might have happened.

  14. Mica says:

I’m catching up a month late on these posts, but has the second duck returned? (I love ducks!)

If you saw two coyotes and then only saw one, would you be sad?

    • kilax says:

The second duck has not! I am still wondering if it’s gone or nesting.

Yeah, I would be sad about the coyotes too. The only animals I am happy to not see anymore are skunks. Ha ha.
