Most expensive bar of soap ever

Steven called me yesterday at work to tease me. “I have a surprise for you.”

“Oh! What is it?”

“You have to wait until you get home tonight.”

“You turd.”

I love surprises. I looked forward to it all day. I was having a crappy day. I got home and my surprise was… a bag of bath goodies from Lush, the “fresh handmade cosmetics” store. YAY!!! Steven got me bath bombs and bath bars, for soaking in nice, long, hot baths. Which is just what I need to relax, because I have been such a cranky you-know-what lately. Especially to him. (Maybe that was the inspiration?)

What a sweetie. I’m still smiling.

Of course, this reminded me of another story. It’s story-time kids! Sick of it yet? Please tell me if I am repeating previous stories.

Last year I was flying to Denmark from O’Hare airport, and Steven decided to come have dinner with me before my flight took off. He did the same thing; called and said, “I have a surprise for you.”

I excitedly told a few of my classmates, “My fiance has a surprise for me! I wonder what it is!”

So the first thing I said to Steven when we sat down at the dinner table was “What’s my surprise? Where is it?!”

He opened up his briefcase and handed me…

… a calendar. From Chipotle. With pictures of burritos for each month.

Seriously.

I was so mean! I said “THIS is it?”

“Yeah,” was his reply. “We both love burritos so much, I bought one for each of us.”

I still feel bad for having such a mean reaction. Because it was a really sweet and thoughtful gift (that I used ALL year long), just not what I was expecting.

My friends asked me what Steven gave me when I got back from dinner. I pulled it out of my bag and handed it to them.

“Sweet! Where can I get one of these?!” Their reaction was genuine.

Today’s Idiom: thumb’s down – signal of rejection (Roman emperors could condemn a gladiator who fought poorly by turning their thumbs down)

Steven gave my gutter ball a thumb’s down. Unfortunately, I didn’t do any better in the second frame.

He needs to just chill with the “I’ve got a secret” talk.

Steven, just surprise her with your gifts and don’t tell her about it beforehand.

    (JMO) πŸ™‚

A burrito calendar? I didn’t even realize they made such a thing.

It’s that element of surprise without saying anything that works wonders.

  3. Dave2 says:

Sweet indeed! I was once given a calendar that was nothing but photos of pies. I loved it, but could have done without the Strawberry-Rhubarb.

  4. that’s so awesome of Steven!!!! even if you being cranky was the inspiration he still has a nice way of “letting you know”!! still awesome any way you look at it though!! i love a surprise, it makes me feel special!!! πŸ™‚

I love those bath bombs. I have no idea why I don’t take more baths. Oh, right. Then I’d have to scrub my tub. No thanks! I’d definitely need a bath after that. πŸ™‚

If I had a burrito calendar I would be hungry ALL the time.

    a burrito calendar – LMAO πŸ™‚

btw – isn’t it “thumbs down” i.e. no apostrophe?

  7. tori says:

Do you like Lush products? I love the idea of them, and want to like their stuff so bad but my husband got me a huge box (?bag?) of stuff from there and I just can’t get into it. I actually just gave it all to my 10 and 8 year old daughters who are having an awesome time with it all.

ajooja – I do it to HIM all the time! So he is only getting back at me. πŸ˜‰

martymankins – I didn’t either. Maybe that is why I was so surprised? It was really funny and cute though. It had all these little tin-foil burritos in different scenes for the different seasons πŸ™‚

Dave2 – Are you a pie connoisseur? Or was the gift a joke? πŸ™‚

CourtneyInControl – It makes me feel special too. Like “Aww, someone was thinking about me during their day!”

sizzle – I haven’t used one yet but I AM SUPER EXCITED!!! They are already making our bathroom smell super good. Is us talking about them enough inspiration to clean the tub? Ha ha πŸ™‚ The calendar DID make me hungry, and it was quite cruel, because there wasn’t a Chipotle where I was living (not that Chipotle is my fav, but that is an entirely different post to write…)

*lynne* – The book I took it from had an apostrophe! Weird, right? It is bothering me too…

tori – I DO like the products! Only certain smells of course, and just some fun things for the bath and a few soaps. I don’t think it is reasonable to use it ALL the time, but I love to pamper myself occasionally πŸ™‚

  9. bath bombs?! oh, i HAVE to check out what this is all about. I heart baths. and burritos. but never together.

    steve is such a sweety!

  10. kilax says:

Gina (Mannyed) – Bath + Burrito = Heaven! I think we should all try it! Ha ha πŸ™‚

  11. Nilsa S. says:

Yeah for significant others who put in effort to make us feel better. And the wonderful thing is? Despite what it is they do, they inevitably help make us feel better.

  12. Steven says:

Kim always tells me she has a surprise for me, but I just can’t get excited. I told her I would rather know what it is and be excited thinking about it all day/week/month. I just can’t get excited about something if I don’t know what I am getting excited about… I know she likes surprises though, so that’s why I always tell her. But how would I know she wouldn’t be excited about a burrito calendar?

    BTW, it’s: Burritos + Doughnuts = Heaven

I suppose if there was a bath involved too, it would still be OK.

  13. javaqueen14 says:

That was so sweet! You are so lucky to have such a great guy, burrito calendar and all… heee-heeee-heeee!

  14. kilax says:

Nilsa S. – Exactly – just being thought of during someone else’s day is enough to make me feel great!

Steven – You should continue working on perfecting the burrito/donut diet, so we can start selling the diet book, get onto Oprah’s book club, go on tour, and make tons of money!

javaqueen14 – πŸ™‚ I am going to have to find that calendar and show it to you guys…
