The silly things I get excited about

By , April 15, 2010 4:44 am
  • Finding out our city is starting a community garden (after writing this!), buying seeds and planning out our plot
  • Lunch with a friend today to celebrate her birthday
  • Upcoming races with friends (four separate races with Erin, Kate, Tori and Robin)
  • Running with Steven
  • My parents visiting in one month!
  • Finally scheduling a haircut for next Friday (it’s been 8 months – I got a coupon in an email the same day I wrote this, and my mom sent me money – yep, how sad is that?)
  • Trying archery with Erin and her husband
  • Discovering “new to us” trails in Lake County
  • *cross your fingers* Sleeping in on Saturday
  • Planning a top secret costume for a somewhat secret event
  • Moving to a new desk at work… next to a window! With a view of Lake Michigan!
  • A trip to DC in May
  • Wearing jeans to work on Friday
  • My personal chauffeur driving me to the train station
  • Steven getting the Datsun licensed and registered*
  • Iron Man 2
  • Knowing I have over 10 vacation days and not being afraid to use them
  • My friends and their growing families
  • My happiness with considering me, Steven and Data to be a “family”
  • The weather
  • Netflix on the wii (frickin’ rocks!)
  • Steven’s cooking/baking
  • Emails from friends
  • Receiving running socks and gu from Kalli’s giveaway
  • Sharing recipes with friends
  • That I am one payment away from paying off my one credit card
  • That “my things I am not excited about list” is much smaller and mental, not written
  • Finding a “good” deal on a Shepherd’s hook to hang our bird feeders on (the hope is that Data can watch them from inside… turns out Data is totally freaked out by this thing)
  • Posting this!

What are you excited about?

Make a list! You may be surprised how long it gets. I was sure surprised by mine!

This is a great list! It made me smile!

  2. Kristie says:

    I like your list :).

-Red sunflowers (have you ever seen these before? They are gorgeous!)
-Shasta purring every morning when I get up.
-Yummy dinner leftovers to pack in lunches for work.

    • kilax says:

I do not think I have seen red sunflowers! You must take a pic to show me! πŸ™‚

I love waking up to purring Data. Why are they so happy in the am? Oh, they think they are getting fed πŸ˜‰

I LOVE having leftovers to bring for lunch! So much better than lame-o salad!

  3. Shannon says:

What a great, feel-good post! I am excited this week about finishing the deal on our new house!

Data is such a pretty cat. I love grey kitties!

  4. Awww…this is a great list! It looks like you do indeed have a lot to be excited about!

  5. I am excited about friends like you who remember my birthday and send a sweet card. Thank you! It was an awesome surprise. I’m not feeling too “birthday” this year so it was nice to have a reminder that I am supposed to have a special day.

I am also super excited about our race although I feel like I am going to really slow you down. Hopefully this weekend my run will go better because I am kind of getting discouraged.

    • kilax says:

Yay! Happy you got it! I know the little dog on the front is not exactly like Maya, but I saw it and thought of Maya, then laughed at the idea of a dog icing a cake! πŸ˜› Happy Birthday! I hope you DO have a special day!

And DO NOT worry about slowing me down. Seriously? I will probably be slowing YOU down! Since I have been running with Steven I am running slower than I normally do (which is completely fine) so I am not sure if I can pick the pace back up for our run. We are going to have a BLAST no matter what happens! Don’t feel discouraged! We are all impressed that you have picked this up so quickly. Your motivation is inspiring!

  6. Steven says:

So you’re not really excited about the Datsun?

    • kilax says:

No, I am. Just wanted to see if you were reading πŸ˜› Are you going to work on it today?

  7. Mica says:

What a great list of things to look forward to! So excited!

I’m excited about being done with this semester and GOING TO JAPAN AND KOREA! Wheee!

And about Netflix on Wii. I might have to buy a subscription now…

    • kilax says:

I am really excited about your trip. You are going to have an amazing time!

Netflix on the wii is sweet! But, you can only watch movies that are on their “watch instantly” list πŸ˜‰

  8. Felicia says:

    Love that list!

Let’s see: excited that I am taking an over/under (Me: 39/Her: 40) trip with my friend Kerri at the end of the year to Scotland and/or Ireland (whichever is cheapest).

Working the Weight Watchers plan and actually loving the changes.

    Falling in love with walking!

Having the cutest dogs on the planet!

I could go on and on as I think I am a truly blessed person πŸ™‚

  9. K says:

I love this! I have a lot of silly things that I get excited about. Maybe I’ll post about them soon.
Also- I’ll be in DC in May (and June and July.. oh wait..)

  10. jamie says:

All good things to be excited about! I’m excited about the weather and no work travel for a whole week πŸ™‚

  11. We should definitely go for a run when you come to DC — I can show you the pretty trails! (Is that weird? Inviting a stranger for a run?)

    • kilax says:

I would love to! I don’t think that is strange at all. Shall I email you when I know what my schedule is like?

  12. Oh my gosh you get to try archery?!! That is so freaking cool! Archery and ax throwing are on my list of “must tries” at some point. πŸ˜€

P.S. I do feel like I’m going through the motions a lot of the time. I sort of feel like Scott and I (and me specifically) are in this limbo state of figuring out where we want to be and what we want to do exactly.

    • kilax says:

Ooo, ax throwing! I bet I would be scary bad at that.

I think I could say Steven is a bit in on this too. Maybe it’s just a rite of passage? That happens many times? Ha ha.

  13. sizzle says:

It’s always a good exercise to write out what makes you happy or what you are grateful for. Turns the negative on its proverbial head I’ve found. Good for you! This is a great list. πŸ™‚

  14. ShutupandRun says:

Wow you’ve got a ton of cool stuff to be excited about. When I saw “Ironman 2” I literally thought you were going for a second Ironman. I am excited about lots as well: coffee first thing when I get up, long runs with friends, sprinklers are on on the golf course so it must be spring, watching Survivor tonight, getting my hair cut/colored tomorrow, reading my book…the list goes on and on!

  15. Those are good things to get excited about! I love how they’re big & little things πŸ™‚

Currently, I’m just excited for the weekend!

  16. Joey says:

I don’t consider these things silly! I love the garden coop… Our community has one as well & I enjoy driving by in the summer and seeing everyone out working their lil plots! Have fun! πŸ™‚

  17. Karin says:

What a lovely list! And I’m super excited to see Iron Man too!!! Can’t wait πŸ˜‰ (though the trailer is awful – have you watched it?)

    • kilax says:

I have not watched it yet, but with Scarlet Johansson and Samuel L Jackson being in it, I am quite worried.

  18. J says:

I love the pictures! Reminds me of my cat! There is a lot I am excited about! The list just keeps going and going!

  19. Is it hard to set up the Wii and Netflix? We have a Wii and we have a Netflix subscription and I think it’d be a big ole bonus if I could figure out how to combine the two!

    • kilax says:

It is super simple! You request the wii CD from Netflix. They send it to you, and it provides a code on your wii console. You then go into your netflix account on your comp and enter the code. Then you can watch any instant netflix content on your wii, as long as the disk is in! πŸ™‚

  20. Tonia says:

I think those are great things to be excited about. I am pumped to see my mom tonight. Haven’t seen her in a while and she is spending the weekend with us!

  21. Kim says:

Data is SO ADORABLE! I love this list! I love lists in general, as you know, but this one really made me smile. I definitely nodded along to a few. What’s on my list? Sleeping in this weekend, massage on Sunday (I get one per month), Project Runway (Lawrence and I LOVE this on Friday nights), calzones (another Friday night ritual), Netflix, my sister’s exciting news, Maui at the end of the month, haircut soon, new job with a windowed office when we move floors, not moving once during the night, movies coming out (Iron Man 2 is on my list), my cat + husband = family, my recent book splurge at Amazon, taxes are done! I could go on…

    • kilax says:

      Thanks πŸ™‚

I would love to try a massage one day! Maybe after my next race! And Maui. Yay oh yay!

  22. Pauline says:

    Your kitty is so cute!
I’m excited about trying the new vegetarian recipes I discovered in the latest issue of “Food and Wine” magazine. It can be tough to think of meal ideas, and hopefully these ones will work out well! πŸ™‚

    • kilax says:

      Thank you!

Are you going to post some of the recipe photos? I would love to see them! (Or have you already and I missed them?)

  23. Kate says:

Hey, an upcoming race with me is an AWESOME thing to get excited about. We’ll discuss your use of adjectives in person next month. πŸ˜‰

  24. Anne says:

Loved this post! I have so much to get excited about…my running group tonight, my son’s birthday today, dinner with friends and family tomorrow night, receiving an email from an author I’m inspired by, my first race in 3 weeks, my first half-marathon in 6 weeks, wearing new clothes, going to Costco this afternoon…the list goes on and on!!!

    • kilax says:

Your list is awesome! New clothes always make me feel fresh and excited! I should finally use that Banana Republic giftcard I got for my birthday in July!

  25. Adam says:

This blog just got a wee bit cooler after including Iron Man 2. Looks like SUCH a fun movie. πŸ™‚

having a window overlooking the lake would be awesome!

I’m excited for the weekend. It is thurs, I can think about that, right?

    • kilax says:

LOL @ your Iron Man comment. Would it be even cooler if I posted updates on Steven’s work on the Datsun? Yay? Nay? LOL.

And YES. I am excited for the weekend too!

  26. Ameena says:

I love getting excited about the big and little things in life. Your list is so great.

I am excited that I am off on a trip tomorrow for 10 days! Can’t wait.

You and your hubby are too cute.

    • kilax says:

Oh, where are you going? Did you post about it and I missed it? Are you coming to Chicago? Ha ha.

  27. Erin says:

    Nice list!

I’m excited about trying a new restaurant on Saturday, going running on a new path on Sunday with the running group, seeing STOMP in a few weeks, the half marathon, my other races in May, marathon training, my vacation to Savannah with my mom, and archery. Sometimes I wish my life wasn’t so busy but then I wouldn’t have so much to be excited about!

    • kilax says:

What kind of restaurant are you trying? Have you ever tried Ethiopian? We went to this Ethiopian place in Evanston a few years back. It was fun! You might like it. You get to grab at the food with thin pita-like bread.

I saw STOMP and London and thought it was so cool!

  28. The only thing that comes to mind this minute is 4 PM so I can go home and see Raymond and Sadie πŸ™‚

  29. oh so many fun things to love in your list.
thank you for sharing them with us!
you are right about the list probably being longer than we think it will be…..i might try it too πŸ™‚

  30. BostonRunner says:

So I don’t work yet, but I can imagine how exciting it would be to switch your desk at work ESPECIALLY near a window. Last summer, I worked in a cubicle and looked at nothing interesting and it was just so depressing.
I’m excited about lots of things but especially the run I went on today!

  31. Great list! I too can’t wait for Iron Man 2!! Man, it’s going to be great.. I love Robert Downey Jr.. yum.

I’m excited for SO MANY things. New fitness dvds, Greece, my 19th, getting waxed, the end of my detox, running tomorrow.

  32. Leah says:

Im excited that the basil and cilantro seeds my mom gave me are actually growing!!

  33. lisa says:

My upcoming vacation – going to Spain and Morocco!

  34. teamarcia says:

Love your list and love the pics even more! I am excited about getting through this weekend and (trying) to savor and enjoy the experience. :0

  35. Julia says:

Fabulous list! Reminded me to stay grounded, especially in these next hectic few weeks!
I <3 the pics of Data! They warm my heart!

  36. Bethany says:

I am excited about: only 6 weeks of school left, my summer job, being able to travel some in June, my family reunion, moving in 34 days!
