Looks ready to run on to me

By , November 3, 2010 8:20 pm

On Monday the new trail by our house looked like this:

And today, it looked like this:

They put blacktop down! I am really surprised to see blacktop on the trail, since all of the Lake County Forest Preserve Trails are crushed limestone. Maybe this is just one layer?

Either way, seeing this actually made my day! Steven and I took Data on a walk to enjoy the new trail. Data really liked it. Ha. Can you even see him against the black background?

We walked pretty far, enough to check out the entrances they added from the neighborhood (one of two new entrances):

and where the work on the trail ends at this point:

In the distance, you can see the trail continues in to the woods.

And here is the view back toward our neighborhood – they are still working on that end:

I can’t wait to show my family when they come visit next week! And I think I need to do some exploring on the trail this weekend to see what the progress is over the entire proposed 2.5 miles. It looks ready to run on to me… with a little rough terrain here and there!

What a totally cool trail!!! Lucky you 🙂

Wow– they have been working hard. That trail looks great, but I’m surprised no crushed limestone as well. Limestone is my favorite surface 🙂

I wish I had taught my kitties to walk on a leash.

I love new roads!! I love driving on them even! It just feels special to be on it when it’s fresh and new.
I’m totally jealous that Data walks on a leash so well!

  7. Amy says:

Nice! I love it that you take Data for walks!

  8. Kandi says:

Did Data walk the whole way or do you end up carrying him?
I like that photo where you and Data are like ghosts (unless it’s because of the grainy-ness of this email server I’m on)!

He walked all the way to the entrance by the houses (where I turned and took the last picture back toward our neighborhood) then we carried him home.

And we are like ghosts in that photo! I wondered if anyone would notice!

So jealous of your new running pathway! I wish we had something like that. We do have the canal system path but its not blacktop the whole way 🙁 Plus I am scared to run on it alone.

  10. Erin says:

They are making good progress! I wonder if they’ll put down limestone over the top or not, too. Can you call and ask?

    • kilax says:

Ha. You know me. I was telling Steven I was going to call last night! First I asked them on twitter. I should call tomorrow and see which method is faster!

  11. Gina/Mannyed says:

Very cool! I wish we had something like that…well…we have a park, so I shouldn’t complain. I see a shadowy image of you and Data in the picture with the entrance. Am I seeing things?

  12. I love running on blacktop. You know what else? I love the smell of freshly laid blacktop. Yeah, kinda weird eh?

I think we have spoke about this, but I had a trail go behind my house in Kansas City. It was AWESOME. Although, ironically I rarely ran on it. It only went 2 miles in either direction so it was too short! 🙂
