2011 Race Calendar: January – June

By , January 13, 2011 5:29 pm

A lot of you have shared your planned races for 2011 and I love seeing what everyone has on their calendar! So, here is what I have planned, along with my goal for the race:

Month Day Race Location Goal Also running (AR) OR running with (RW)
January 31 Frozen Zucchini Snowshoe Adventure (5K) Barrington, IL I’ll be wearing snowshoes (if there is snow) – goal is to finish without dying
February 27 Frosty Footrace (5K) Round Lake, IL Run ridiculously fast and place in my age group Erin (AR)
March 13 Rotary Shamrock Shuffle (5K) McHenry, IL Run ridiculously fast and place in my age group
April 2 Fool’s 5K Cedar Falls, IA Run for fun
April 17 Trolley Run (4M) Kansas City, MO Run for fun Steven, Steven’s dad, Steven’s brother (RW)
April 29 Provena Illinois 5K Champaign-Urbana, IL Run for fun, i.e. get competitive because there is such a large field and run too fast exhausting myself for the next day Erin (AR), Melissa (AR)
April 30 Illinois Half Marathon Champaign-Urbana, IL PR/run under 9:00 min miles. I know. Ha ha ha ha ha! Erin (RW, hopefully), Lauren (AR, full marathon!), Mica (AR, marathon relay), Paige (AR, half), Melissa (AR)
May 7 Wisconsin Half Marathon Kenosha, WI Run for fun Erin (AR), Marica (AR – tentative), Tony (AR)
May 26 Chase Corporate Challenge (3.5M) Chicago, IL Run for work camaraderie
June 10-11 Ragnar Madison to Chicago Madison, WI to Chicago, IL Survive and have a blast! Erin (AR – I am joining her work club’s team)

I am missing a March race. The March half I was thinking about got canceled. Any ideas? Edited on January 28 – I found a 5K in March near where I live and added it above!

I am also thinking about Grand Rapids in October for a full marathon. Other than that, my schedule is open. I like to keep it open in the summer for impromptu* trips to Guttenberg, IA to hang out on the Mississippi.

Do you have your 2011 race calendar planned out? What’s on schedule?

Is anyone running any of the races above? Let me know and I’ll add you to my table.

Any suggestions for me on future races? I still haven’t run a race in Indiana

*We only went there twice last summer and I am pretty bummed about that. Although, each trip was pretty awesome!

You’ll be half an hour from me when you run the IL half marathon in April!!! I’m off that day, too.

  2. Etta says:

Oh, and I get off at 3 the afternoon before and the 5K isn’t until 6:30!

  3. That is a solid schedule! So far I’ve got only one certain and just a few in the air… yikes!

  4. Bethany says:

Ohhhh a snowshoe run! That sounds interesting, very! You’ll have to update us on that 🙂

  5. Kandi says:

You should come to MD and run with me! 😉
I’m already registered for a couples 5k in Feb. and a 10k in April. I’m also thinking about doing the Frederick Half (with Jill (onelittletrigirl)). I also am pretty sure I’m doing the same half marathon I did last Sept. this year. Otherwise I don’t have anything else planned yet.

  6. jamie says:

Good for you planning the year out! I am so fly by the seat of my pants when it comes to signing up for races.

  7. bobbi says:

I’ve been thinking about the kenosha half…you’ve got a lot of great stuff on your schedule! I’m still in the “figuring it all out” stages…

  8. Wow! That’s very well-planned! I’m running the Chicago Shamrock Shuffle (4/10) and the Illinois Marathon in C-U. I’ll C-U there! 🙂

    • kilax says:

Cool! I added you to the chart!

I think it is bizzare that the Shuffle is in April this year. I guess they got sick of the snow!

  9. RunningLaur says:

ok, I haven’t even read this yet, but had to comment that I love that you have your planned races in a spreadsheet. ok, now to actually read it…

  10. RunningLaur says:

If you happen to be in AZ in March, I can find a race for you – I pulled up the Arizona Road Racers calendar and it looks like there are about 35 here during the month, so plenty of options. 🙂 As for near you, sorry, not an expert on that, but all of them look fun!

  11. Michel says:

I’ve got a few I want to do but only one I am officially signed up for and that’s the Shuffle. After that it’s the Soldier Field 10miler, RnR Half, and of course Chicago.

  12. Marcia says:

So do you actually run in the snowshoes?

I’m pretty sure I’ll do the Kenosha half.
Great pick on the full in Grand Rapids!

    • kilax says:

Theoretically, you run in them. There is an actual snowshoe running association with official races and everything!

  13. Tony says:

    Kim,

I will be at the Wisconsin 1/2 Marathon again this year. I hope to see you there.

  14. Amy says:

Oh you are doing the Illinois half!! I want to go and do that race – I graduated from the U of I and one of my best friends still lives there (and her son is my godson). She did it the first year and really enjoyed it. It will be flat for sure!

  15. J says:

I have a few races in mind for 2011 but have not committed to any. It is going to be a busy year I can already tell!

  16. Erin says:

I love that you included your goals for each race. That’s a really good idea. And your comment about the Illinois 5K made me laugh. We’ll have to work really hard not to go too fast!

    • kilax says:

Yeah, we have to make sure the 5K is just a warm up! I mean, you probaly would run a 5K to warm up for a full… but not race it! 🙂

  17. Holly says:

I have a *tentative* race schedule, but I’m hesitant to even think about it because I don’t want to get injured and be disappointed. Um…issues much, Holly?? 😉

So far it’s a sprint triathlon in April and a half marathon in May (and some 4-5 mile races in between), and *HOPEFULLY* a full marathon this fall. But that one’s a big “if”.

I think you need to run a race in Indiana and we could run one together! Indy’s not so bad. 🙂 Here’s our local race calendar!

    • kilax says:

I am worried about my schedule too. I hate spending money then not running because of injury! I really hope this is an injury free year for both of us!

Are you thinking of doing the Indy Half on May 7th?

I would love to do a race with you? Are you in Indy? We should look for something in between us! 🙂

  18. Mica says:

I don’t really race very much, so I’m trying to come up with a heftier schedule for 2011.

Um, also, add me to the “AR” list for Illinois. I’ll most likely be doing the marathon relay!

…And I’m thinking about Wisconsin too! I’m just afraid that it will be hot on race day.

    • kilax says:

You can always sign up for WI right before. It doesn’t fill up! 🙂

With whom are you doing the relay?

  19. Kristina says:

I’m amazed that you are so bold! I have several races planned and paid for – one is a HUGE HUGE deal. But I’m really too nervous to post upcoming races, or to even talk about them with people in my daily life. It’s like I have this secret life…

    • kilax says:

I don’t know why you keep them secret! Do you not know anyone else that runs irl?

What is the HUGE deal one? 🙂

  20. Adam says:

“get competitive because there is such a large field and run too fast exhausting myself for the next day” HAHAH!! I love it. 🙂

Man, i’m bummed that we won’t be able to hook up for any races this spring. What does your fall look like?

    • kilax says:

Fall is completely open. The only tentative is the Grand Rapids marathon. What do you have planned for the fall?
