Friday Question #150

By , February 25, 2011 6:03 am

What is your favorite candy?

A nice and simple question, because my brain is fried.

Hands down, DOTS and Swedish Fish. They’re chewy, soft and sweet, just the way I like candy. The only problem (?) is that you can’t eat too many before you feel sick.

I even like Swedish Fish so much that I made a special trip to Sweden to buy some:

Alright, alright, I was actually already there, but I made sure to pick up some Swedish Fish to take back to the States!

That’s an excellent question. I have a tough time choosing favorite foods and candies because I like so many different things. I’ll go with candy bars and say snickers or twix.

  2. Mica says:

I like Swedish fish a lot, but I always prefer chocolate candy to regular sugar candy. I second Kim above in saying Reese’s PB cups!!!

  3. bobbi says:

I am a dark chocolate girl, followed closely by chocolate pb combos. AND I have a thing for tootsie rolls.

Rats. I guess I just like candy. I wish I could eliminate my sweet tooth!

  4. Sweet tarts. I love sweet tarts! Except after you eat too many they kind of burn your mouth and then your entire mouth feels yucky the next day. Necco wafers are great too. I am laughing because I can not stand dots and actually threw a bunch away from my kids halloween candy.

  5. Sour Patch kids. Hands Down.

  6. Kierstan says:

My sister lives in Sweden right now and none of her friends had ever heard of Swedish Fish! We had to send some to her so they could all try some.

Thanks – now you’ve got me craving them!

    • kilax says:

It’s really interesting – Swedish Fish are actually made (well, were) by a Swedish company in the 60s, but targeted for North America! So it’s no surprise that not everyone over there is familiar with them!

  7. Victoria says:

Ooh, tough question! Kit Kats or Twix. I like the cookie crunch.

  8. Dave2 says:

I just go to IKEA to get Swedish Fish… a lot less expensive than a trip to Sweden! My favorite candies are also DOTS and Swedish Fish. With a UNO Bar being a close runner-up.

  9. Steve says:

Love the PB cups. But can’t forget those Sunshines : )

  10. gina says:

    M&Ms!! Especially dark chocolate M&Ms.

  11. Jen says:

Crazy…I just looked at your question before scrolling down and I thought to myself, “Does she mean candy or candy bar?” Then, I thought…”well, that’s easy either way. Swedish fish and butterfingers” Then, I scrolled down! Too funny…

Tomorrow is going to be awesome!

    • kilax says:

I actually meant CANDY but many people are responding with candy bar, so that’s cool too! ๐Ÿ™‚

Can’t wait for our class! Trying to get all farting out the system today!

  12. Ren says:

Resse’s PB Cups (regular size) are my long term favorite, with Snickers occasionally surpassing them. However, I tried Snickers Peanut Butter Squares the other day and those are now in the running. I didn’t have an OMG moment, so I guess they didn’t really topple the Resse’s, but I’ve always thought that adding some peanuts to the PB cups would be a good thing. I think there’s an opportunity for a new favorite somewhere in there if either Mars or Hershey’s has the wherewithal to come up with it.

  13. sizzle says:

My one true candy love & weakness – Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups. Frankly anything that combines chocolate and peanut butter together wins my vote every time. A close second is anything coconut.

  14. Amy says:

It’s probably a good feature that they make you sick if you eat too many! Kind of a built in defense mechanism, huh? I am not a big candy person at all, I go for salty things way more, but good quality chocolate I do enjoy and the occasional Reese’s PB cup!

  15. J says:

Swedish fish and sour patch kids!!

  16. I’m a Reese’s girl. But when I don’t have the chocolate craving, swedish fish are THE candy I go to! I actually bought a bag just last week in hopes they would cure my hangover. They didn’t. But at least I felt a little better. ๐Ÿ™‚

  17. ChezJulie says:

My husband loves the Swedish Fish, too. I’m not really into hard candy or gummy candy. My favorites are probably those dark chocolate covered crystallized ginger pieces from Whole Foods. At the movies I like Goobers, Raisinets, or Snow Caps.

  18. Heidi says:

I LOVE Sour Patch Straws and Starbursts. I usually end up eating the whole pack too, if I know it’s in the house, there is no hope. ๐Ÿ™‚

  19. martymankins says:

Gummy worms are my all time favorite. The Black Forest brand is the best and easiest to get almost anywhere. There are some stores where the bulk gummy worms are really good, but it’s a crap shoot.

  20. Erin says:

My mom loves Swedish Fish. I’m a huge fan of peanut M&Ms.

  21. Stephany says:

Oh…sorry, but YUCK DOTS. They get stuck in my teeth and just ewww. (To each their own?!) I’m much more of a chocolate girl, especially dark chocolate.

  22. cindy says:

Be careful how many Swedish fish you eat, they have mineral oil in them which helps you go. I always carry a bag with me when I travel.

  23. Hmmmm I love candy! Fuzzy peaches or gummy bears or those little dinosaur ones are my FAVS!

  24. Susan says:

I love Swedish Fish and Sour Patch Kids….mmmmmmmm!

  25. Melissa says:

I was randomly craving Swedish Fish the other day! (Did not indulge the craving though!) But hmmm…sour patch kids and peanut M&Ms are serious weaknesses, followed by reeses PB cups (the miniature ones only, not full size) and plain Hersheys Kisses. I have a HORRIBLE sweet tooth though, so I haven’t met much candy that I don’t like!

  26. Jamie says:

Hands down sour cherry balls aka michigan cherries. Yum. Though when I’m at a movie I must have sour patch kids with my popcorn!

  27. Bethany says:

Hmmm…lately I’ve been on a gummy worm kick, but I also really enjoy just plain Hershey’s chocolate ๐Ÿ™‚

  28. Kristina says:

OMG – I love Dots and Swedish Fish! That’s so funny!
I also gravitate to Jordan Almonds. Obviously I’m a huge sugar freak!

  29. Kate says:

I love Swedish fish! I love a lot of other candy, too (surprise!)! ๐Ÿ˜‰ Cadbury creme eggs, orange slices, circus peanuts, M&Ms, Hot Tamales, Mounds, to name a few. I hate, hate, hate Good & Plentys … got sick on those as a kid at the movies. Blech!

  30. Megan says:

    Oh.My.Gosh.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Dots and Swedish Fish! There was an entire year during grad school when I ate a box of Dots and package of Twizzlers for breakfast before work – five days a week. Now, I try to save them for treats after long runs or rides, and I never go to the movies without a box of Dots.

Really, I love all gummy candies, but those two are in my top three – rounding out that top three is gummy cherries by Haribo (you can get tham at the Cost Plus World Market – Haribo also make the BEST type of gummy bears). Trust this: if you love Dots and SF, you will sign over naming rights for your first born for a bag of gummy cherries.

And of course I would be an utter failure of a candy addict if I didn’t mention that pulling up the rear in 4th place would be Mike n Ikes. anf fifth place goes to jelly beans.

    • kilax says:

Ha! I think we have the same cravings! Do you know if the Haribo stuff is vegan (no gelatin)? ๐Ÿ™‚ I must try it!

  31. kerri says:

reese’s cups. hands down. paired with a coke OMG. every day 3rd period of 10th grade…. no joke!
if i want something gummy, sour patch kids are my go-to.
    mmmmmmmmm.

  32. RED SWEDISH FISH. I bought a bag of multi-colored ones at the airport today, and was thoroughly disappointed. They are not at all the same as the red swedish fish.
