Favorite bars

Anyone have a guess as to what my favorite energy bars are?

Here’s the thing – I normally get hooked on an energy bar, eat too many of them, and never want to eat them again (hello most Clifbars, Larabars, Odwalla, many LUNA flavors…).

But these Chocolate Dipped Coconut bars from LUNA are so addictive. I have not hit my “never eating you again” point with them. Maybe I have found true love (in bar form)?

All joking aside, I never have more than one of these a day, and try not to eat one a day. But I found myself repeatedly buying them at Target when I ran out of stock at home so I decided to take the plunge and get these huge boxes from Amazon (at a better overall price).

How long do you think 30 LUNA bars will last me? I’ll send one to whomever guesses most accurately. Ha ha. So, actually, how long do you think 29 LUNA bars will last me?

Do you eat energy bars*? What is your favorite kind?

*I am not really even sure how an energy bar is defined, and I bet these are just as bad as candy bars. Oh well… I guess if someone can tell me otherwise, that would be nice!

Yum! I love Luna bars, though I eat them only once in a while. Hmm, I’ll guess 20 days! 🙂

  2. Losing Lindy says:

I haven’t ever had one, but since you took the plunge and bought a box…hrmm…38

Well there’s this great little place in the French Quarter… Oh, not those kind of bars.

For energy bars, my favorite are ThinkThin. They actually have a lot of protein (20 gm.) and no sugar (I think they have malitol or one of those sugar alcohols instead). I sometimes have one for breakfast because they’re pretty filling.

Some of the Lara Bars are pretty good, too, and they have just a few natural ingredients.

Ha ha ha. I wondered if someone who go that route with the bar question! 🙂 🙂 🙂

I am not sure if I have tried ThinkThin. I should grab one!

And I think Larabar wins for most natural! I do like the PB ones.

  4. bobbi says:

    I have never tried those – now I’m curious. I’m guessing 33 days…

I am a cliff bar girl, and I’ve tried a bunch. Peanut butter crunch is my favorite.

  5. Maggie says:

Seeing as how I’ve read multiple articles saying that gum drops, Swedish fish and candy corn are good (cheap) substitutes for GU, I’m guessing Luna, Clif, etc bars are similar to Snickers. That being said, I LOVE CHOCOLATE AND COCONUT.

  6. 38 days. Chocolate Coconut is a great flavor! I loved it when I saw it at the store, although I’ve only bought one and tried it out in late december. delish!

  7. Ha ha… that’s one of my favorite things about officially being in “training” for something. I’m obsessed with energy bars and love having them as my snack at work before a long workout…

    I’ll give you 22 days. :p

  8. Kandi says:

I’m going to give you the benefit of the doubt and go with 45 days. 🙂
We occasionally buy clif bars and I like them but I really don’t eat them too often. I mostly avoid bars because I worry they aren’t that healthy (as if I’m healthy in other things I eat?) and assume that I’ll still eat my regular meals anyway so I don’t want the added calories. This is my logic for not snacking in general though, not just related to energy bars.

    • kilax says:

I think you are the only one who has any faith in me! 😛

I snack a lot. And I don’t think these things are healthy. 😉

  9. Kristina says:

I like Luna bars but I’d say that Lara bars are my favorites!
    Nice stash!

  10. Jen S. says:

I’ve overdosed on every energy bar I’ve frequented. But I’ve gotten back into Luna bars lately, and my favorite Luna favorite is the lemon zest, hands down. But I always buy an assortment, so I can’t eat them every day. 🙂

    • kilax says:

I still need to try that one! I love lemon. Is it like a lemon cookie?

      • Jen S. says:

It’s, well … crunchier and maybe tangier than a lemon cookie? I love all lemon flavored things like cookies and lemon bars (the non-energy-kind).

  11. Kelly says:

Mmm, Luna bars rock my work. I haven’t tried your flavor yet, but I definitely have a nuts over chocolate bar for my morning snack lurking in my desk somewhere. I’ve been meaning to try a make-your-own recipe I have somewhere, too.

    • kilax says:

Share the recipe when you find it! I wonder if they are close. At all. I made my own granola bars once, and they were not similar to anything else 😉

  12. Erin says:

    Mmmm, those sound good.

I trust Clif bars for pre-race filler but I try not to eat energy bars too often. We’re really into the Element Bars (Jason loves them) but even those I’ve kind of overdosed on. I’d prefer them to be under 150 calories but so many of them are over 200, too.

As for how long yours will last, I’ll go with 32 days 🙂

  13. sizzle says:

Most energy bars are too high in sugar for me but I did like Luna bars best before I cut my sugar intake. I now prefer Think Thin bars. Tasty stuff!

  14. J says:

I have never had these. Guess I am behind on things. I would say that these bars would last you 40 days!

  15. gina says:

    27.

Steve was interested in getting some energy bars, maybe he would like this – oh wait, it has coconut in them. Never mind.

    • kilax says:

I was going to ask in this post if people know anyone who does not like coconut – because I think that is crazy. (Ha! I was about to say nuts… but that would have been ironic… as I don’t like nuts).

      LUNA has other flavors too!

  16. diane says:

Too funny–I am a junkie for the new Zone Perfect cashew pretzel bars, and ordered two cases from Amazon recently because it was such a good deal! (and they are new so kind of hard to find)
I have heard the Zone bars are good in terms of protein/carb/fat ratios, but still, I read the ingredients on most of these bars and get depressed. What the heck is fractionated palm oil anyway??
(I guess 30 days based on my own experience with the cashew pretzel bars–ha)

    • kilax says:

Ha! We are both stocking up! The LUNA bars are funny because they have a pretty long ingredient list, but everything says “Organic” in front of it. I do look at calories, but not too much at sodium, fat, etc. Maybe I should get better at that!

  17. Ian says:

Luna Bars are good, and yes all you men out there you can eat Luna products 🙂 My favorite bars are Clif Bars. I like them so much I’ve worked for Clif Bar part time past two years at running events and expos. Next time you are at a Chicago race/event/expo and see the Clif Bar booth I might be there. PS Luna Bars are owned by Clif Bar

  18. OMG…I am eating my first chocolate dipped coconut bar…YUM. I think Luna has an in with the girl scout people…this bar tastes JUST LIKE Samoas (my fave) and the Chocolate Peppermint tastes just like Thin Mints (my second fave). YUMMMM.

They are pretty vitamin dense for something that is so delicious!

    • kilax says:

Someone else told me they thought that too – that they taste like Samoas. They are a lot cheaper than Girl Scout cookies. Hee hee 🙂

  19. greg says:

If you want to eat junk food before and after you run, eat luna, cliff, odwalla bars. Or, save your money and buy snickers bars and take a multi vitamin.

If you want processed food bar to eat, that isn’t refined oil and refined grains, the -only- one I have ever found is called Larabar. If you get them on sale you can get t hem for $1 a piece.

Most Larabars have 3-4 ingredients… aka fruit and nuts instead of refined grains, oil, and chemicals.

    • kilax says:

I do like having some junk food from time to time, so I will stick with them. I don’t think Snickers are vegan, although I used to like them a lot! 🙂
