All ready for Valentine’s Day

By , January 4, 2012 5:42 am

Now you see it,

now you don’t.

Our Christmas tree turned in to a peace lily!

All of our Christmas decorations are put away, except for the candles in each window. I figured I would wait and see when the rest of the neighborhood stops turning on their lights to put those away.

I had Monday off from work and was determined to get all of the Christmas decorations put away. I didn’t want to do it, but knew if I didn’t tackle it on Monday, it would not happen for a long time. And it’s kind of a bummer to have everything still be out, when the holiday is long gone.

The worst part is putting all those damn Star Wars ornaments back in their boxes. But I do it.

I was surprised though – I think putting everything away went faster than putting everything up! I put all the decorations in clear plastic boxes, and they are all labeled as to what goes inside, so it’s pretty easy (except for a few things that never want to get back in to their boxes – I am talking to you nativity manger and santa paws bowls).

So… back to our plain decor! No decorations again until next year. Although I was at someone’s house on New Years Day and they had Valentine’s Day decorations up! Crazy!

How long do you wait to take down your winter holiday decorations? Do you dread it?

Do you decorate for any other holidays?

We were at the Dollar Tree on Saturday, and V found a double heart, tinsel thing out of wire. It is on our door. πŸ™‚

I took my tree down on Monday too. I didn’t have much else up aside from the tree – I didn’t have any decorations before I had my house. It didn’t take me too long but I did take a break in the middle anyway.
It was nice having people over for NYE because we cleaned the house beforehand leaving not much to do afterwards other than take down decorations.
So far I do not decorate for any other holiday but I have a friend who does for Halloween every year.

We took our tree down December 26th. I was tired of the clutter.

I took down my tree New years eve..a tradition of mine. I want it gone for the New Year..:)

I like to take down the Christmas tree after my birthday, January 6. Going with the religious theme, January 6 is technically a religious holiday, the epiphany. We’ll be in Lake Geneva this weekend so I plan on taking things down when we get home.

The only other holiday I actually decorate for is Halloween. Maybe when I have kids some day and they make little crafties at school, we will decorate for other holidays. πŸ™‚

While I generally enjoy the festive decor that holidays bring, this year I could not wait to get rid of our tree. It was littering pine needles all over the place! Despite me watering it every single day. I don’t decorate for any other holiday than Christmas. I gotta say, this year we were elated to have our apartment back free of decorations. It felt so small with them up! The way we have to move the furniture to accommodate a tree makes it feel cramped.

We were getting pretty cramped too. And SO MANY needles everywhere! I brought down the vacuum as soon as the tree was out the door!

i took everything down this weekend too. although it’s a lot easier when there’s no tree – the only time i DON’T mind that oliver won’t let me have one πŸ™‚

Ha! We have the Luke Skywalker ornament!
We took down all our Christmas stuff on Sunday, but I did keep a few snowmen out because we’ll have snow for the next while..

I like to decorate for Valentines, but will probably wait until at least February. πŸ™‚

Unwrapping and rewrapping the ornaments (as well as dealing with the lights) is one of the reasons I didn’t put up a tree this year! That’s my least favorite part. Do you really have a box for every ornament?

    • kilax says:

Yeah, every Hallmark ornament has it’s own box. The random ornaments go in a bigger box πŸ™‚

  10. Well, since I didn’t decorate this year my cleanup was easy. πŸ™‚
But normally I like everything to be down by New Years. After awhile I just feel like there’s too much clutter and I just can’t take it.

I still have to take down all the decorations…I am not looking forward to it. It is so much work and I feel like I have no time. I may just have to do a few things at a time.

I don’t likey this post : (. Kidding! I hate the thought of putting everything away. It’s torture. Wanna come over and do it for me? I’ll buy you a latte.

I feel sad taking down my decorations. But, I did it this year on New Years Day. I was already feeling quite sad, so I figured, I may as well rip off the bandaid and get it done! I did leave the white lights wrapped around my floor lamp. They look too elegant to take down! πŸ™‚ I might decorate for V-Day this year. Just to give myself hope again! πŸ˜‰

We are going to take down our tree this weekend.d We get a real one so we wait until the recycling is set up. i hate taking down the tree, I miss the festive look.

  15. diane says:

I was totally in the same boat on Monday! I knew if I didn’t take the decorations down now, whether I was ready or not, I might not get to it the entire month of January.
The box is still out because I have this nagging feeling I forgot something, but that’s easy to deal with when I’m ready.
I had a nice holiday but I am happy all the craziness is over and I am ready to TACKLE 2012! πŸ™‚

Whoa! Reading this is kind of freaking me out! I just posted about replacing our Christmas tree with a plant. We also put away our Yoda tree topper. It’s like we’re living in the same house!
