Please analyze this picture of my foot

By , February 9, 2012 2:30 pm

Last night during my run, I started to get this nagging soreness on my outer right foot.

During strength class, it was not comfortable to do moves that put pressure on my right foot.

Today I can feel the irritation when I wear running shoes and walk around.

It doesn’t feel like a bone or muscle, and lo and behold, you can see the irritation on the outside of my foot.

Sock still on to hide my scary toenails

What the heck is this?

Time for you all to analyze…

And… GO!

Already someone has asked me if it’s my shoes. I thought not, but maybe it is? Also, I should note, this is not the foot I have plantar fasciitis* in (that is my left foot, and it’s been feeling good, except for a flareup last Saturday).

Oh! And edited to add: I did roll this foot when I was walking outside during my lunch break on Tuesday.

*Boo yah, spelled it right on the first try!

  1. How old are your shoes? Were you running anywhere new? So strange! I hope it gets better soon!

I just finished with a pair of shoes that had just over 300 miles on them. The one I used for that run have 167 on them. I usually never take my shoes over 300 so I do wonder if that is part of the problem. This happened just after a run on the hilly route behind my house, which I have not been running.

Go see somebody. I had something similar, only on the 2nd metatarsal, and they wanted to check for stress fracture. (Turned out to not be, thankfully!) Better safe than sorry! Can you jump?

If you need a podiatirst let me know. I love mine. He is downtown, with appointments over lunch.

Could your dress shoes be rubbing there? Could it be a stress fracture? (I hope not)

      Will let you know, thanks!

I did forget to mention, I rolled my foot outside on Tuesday, in that location. So I hope that is all it is.

  4. Kelly says:

Hopefully it is from rolling your foot outside the other day! Keep us posted!

  5. Michel says:

It could be just a bruise but when I first had that issue with the muscle tear I had a small bruise on the top of my foot. eh. So I don’t know. I always err on the side of caution. And odd my PF is on my left foot as well. lol

  6. I have no idea what that could be – looks painful! Hopefully it gets better soon!

  7. Steven says:

You probably spilled some of your lunch on your shoe and it seeped through and stained your foot…

I hope it’s just a bruise from rolling your foot…I get random bruises (usually on the top of my foot just under my toes) that are sore every once in a while, but they always go away after a couple days…

  9. Erin says:

Hmmm, that looks like a bruise from here. I guess I’d wait and see if it turns more purplish and then fades or if it just sticks around.

  10. J says:

Weird! I have no idea. Hope it stops hurting and you figure it out.

  11. Marcia says:

I agree with Erin. It looks like its a bruise and it’s radiating down, resulting from the roll. I’d watch the color change. I bet it’ll heal and go away.

  12. carol says:

I’m going with the bruise theory. What can you do to make it hurt worse? Any movements? If nothing, then I double agree with the bruise theory.

  13. The Linz says:

🙁 I hate foot issues! I also think it may be bruised. I’ve had a few weird foot bruises and the only way through it was to ice it and to give it a little break. I hope it’s nothing serious.

  14. Agreeing with all above – appears to be a bruise from the photo. Or maybe a stress bruise from the craziness earlier this week?

  15. Amy says:

I think it looks like a bruise…maybe if you ice it and rest a bit it will clear up?

  16. Jen says:

Hot spot from walking in cotton socks? Whether it’s that or a bruise, ice, rest…

    • kilax says:

Hmm, what exactly is a hot spot? I did wonder if it was something I had never heard of… I have been icing! 🙂

  17. Emily says:

So sorry to hear about the injury. I’ve rolled my foot before and it’s not fun at all – it took a few days to heal up. =( How is it feeling this morning? Any visible recovery progress so far?

    • kilax says:

I ran this am and it did not bother me! So… I was being a baby? I can still feel it though. It willl probably take a few days to heal like it did for you.
