Random Thoughts Thursday X

By , February 9, 2012 4:43 am

Some of these bullets turned in to downer bullets (kind of funny after the last post). That is not a reflection of my actual mood!

  • My head was in outer space last week, and I accidentally sent back our unopened Netflix DVD without realizing it (I thought it was one we had already watched). I was bummed on Friday night when I found out we didn’t get to watch Contagion since I sent it back. Duh. Has anyone else ever sent back their unopened Netflix movie by accident?
  • We did get to watch Contagion on Tuesday night (Netflix sent it back to us).
  • Speaking of movies, Erin had a really fun idea for a rating system if I start to do movie reviews here. Maybe I will work on that at the end of the month!
  • In case Monday was not already bad enough (after the canceled trip fiasco), I decided to ruin my phone by spilling a bottle of water on my wallet, which my phone was in. Oops. Actually, this doesn’t bother me too much – I was feeling anti-social anyway. The only bad part is that my phone was my MP3 player!
  • The good news – I did take the canceled trip as a cue to take it easy and did not schedule any extra lunches, or evening plans this week. I have felt like I’ve had more free time.
  • Binge free February did not start out so well. I am really struggling and don’t like talking about it. I actually bought a food journal – something that has never worked for me in the past, but I am willing to give it another try! The journal came yesterday. It has a huge instruction section with weight loss tips, and it even comes with “stickers to conceal that you are using a diet journal” (see cover sticker that says that). I find the stickers very humorous.

  • Kind of related: I thought this article on mindful eating and Buddhism to be interesting. Put  your fork down between bites, think about what you are eating – so simple, but hard for me.
  • Did I mention I have an assistant at work? But only when I work from home:

  • What do you guys think of my “Random Thoughts Thursday” posts? This is just where I put all the little ideas that don’t deserve a whole post… but then it does get quite long!

Link Love:

  • I loved Maggie’s post yesterday – “I’m Doing This For Me” – about the people in her life who question her running (is she running too much/why does she run so much/does she have time to run/etc.?!). Lately I have talked to a lot of people who are getting these types of comments about their running. It always surprises me when people are not happy for you when you tell them you are exercising.
  • Gina finished the C25K program and can run for three whole miles! Check out her post here. I am so proud of Gina!!!

I like your random Thursday posts.
I can’t wrap my mind around people not being happy for people who start exercising!! Maybe it’s kind of like the phenomenon you mentioned where people think you are too small when you are at a healthy weight? I know one of the big comments runners get is “isn’t that bad for your knees”?

    • kilax says:

      Thanks 🙂

I can’t wrap my mind around it either!!! It must be similar to that. People feel threatened when they see others around them making active changes to better themselves? I hate the knees comment. Totally makes me batty!

  2. Jen says:

    Did you like Contagion?

I love your random Thoughts – I think it’s a more realistic post. Everyday is full of random thoughts for most people.

Here’s my random thought – you should come and live with us for a month. Eating with Kent would help you with your eating issues. I know he’s helped me.

    • kilax says:

I found Contagion to be interesting, but obnoxious (just the director’s style). And it didn’t even make me think twice about germs, even though that is such a huge focus. I liked the cast, and that is was different, but I don’t think I would watch it again.

We also watched Cowboys & Aliens this week and that was SO BORING.

I have been thinking about Kent as I have been reading the Monica Seles book. She mentions how she hires a trainer, and he just eats for fuel, and that food is not emotional at all, and I was like “That’s Kent!” 🙂

  3. abbi says:

Maybe some good is coming out of the cancelled trip with the extra free time! The stickers on that food journal are quite funny!

  4. Oh those stickers are cracking me up! I probably would have used those in the past. However, as I’ve grown older I’ve lost all shame and track food openly! People usually could care less, or get really interested and ask for advice, or give you advice!

  5. Michel says:

Have you thought of taking pictures of what you eat, to do a daily log?

    I like the random posts!

    • kilax says:

Taking pictures for me, or sharing them on the blog?

I am already getting dangerously obsessive with food, I worry taking photos would push me over the edge. I cannot even read those posts from people, because it makes me compare and feel bad. I am kind of an in effed up place right now 😉

Have you thought about doing it?

One blogger did ask to see what my vegan diet is like, so I may do one post, at one point!

      • Michel says:

Well I don’t want to trigger things and make it worse but I did a My Day in Pictures on Tuesday and I did it yesterday but didn’t post. Because really the crab rangoon and egg rolls and 2 glasses of wine was not umm healthy. lol.

  6. Emily says:

I love random thought posts! I’m all about giving some light to the noises that are running around in the back of our minds. Plus I love the diversity of topics that frequently come up in random thought posts. It’s great fodder for all of us readers to mull over!

Love the food journal and the stickers, too! Very clever!

  7. I give you a lot of credit for using a food journal. I’m trying to use one on my phone and am not doing a very good job. I already know when I eat too much and when I don’t eat the right foods. I don’t need a journal to remind me… or maybe I do. =) Promise you’ll update us on how it goes for you!

    • kilax says:

Yeah, I felt the same way – I know how many calories are in things and that I am overeating! But then I thought maybe if I had to write it all down, and kept a number running in my head throughout the day, I would get better. We’ll see! I will update you guys! 🙂

  8. Melissa says:

    LOL re: the concealment stickers!!

So here’s my random thought: I went to Whole Foods yesterday to get some flowers for a friend and thought “I should check out those protein bars Kim wrote about”…don’t you know they had every flavor BUT the espresso! So I tried a different brand of bar…”NUGO Dark” in Peanut Butter Cup flavor…YUM! And it’s vegan 🙂 Stats aren’t too bad either w/10g protein and 6 g fat (200-ish cal total)

  9. sizzle says:

After I watched Contagion I noticed how often I touched my face (a lot). That movie wigged me out!

  10. Maggie says:

Thanks for the link! I love your assistant!

  11. bobbi says:

I’ve been curious about contagion. But mostly because I’m a microbiologist. So often what they show isn’t even a little realistic.

I love random thoughts posts – sometimes that is the ONLY way I can get a post up!

I should probably try to food journal. Maybe the guilt would have stopped me from taking down half a jar of nutella with a spoon. Now my stomach hurts. 🙁

  12. Pam says:

I love the Random Thoughts posts. They’re always fun. I sometimes do a Tuesday Tidbits post, too, when I’ve got things to share but not postworthy by themselves.

That’s pretty funny about your Netflix mishap. We see that more often than you would think. I sort the mail the carriers bring back in for dispatch, and several times I’ve caught a red envelope in with the white ones. (Red ones are to the customer–white ones back to Netflix.) So either the customer has accidentally put it back in the box unopened, or they just haven’t checked their mail from the day before and the carrier picked back up the movie he just delivered the previous day. haha Either way, WOOPS!

  13. Gingerfoxxx says:

i lost a phone that way too!! it sucks! Glad you are taking it east this week. And i like the random thoughts, personally!

  14. diane says:

Nilsa’s comment made me laugh. I know when I am eating too much too, I just don’t know how to stop it!
I also need to find better options for when I am craving salty. I never used to, it’s very weird. I’m great at subbing for sweets because that is usually my problem!
The stickers made me giggle, too. I hope it helps. And I enjoy your random thoughts too. 🙂

  15. Stephany says:

I’m sorry Binge-Free February isn’t going so well. 🙁 My “Track Every Day” goal is going terribly but I’m trying to get back on, well, TRACK. 😉

I love these posts so keep them up! (Please.) I may even join you some Thursday!

  16. Erin says:

Random posts are fun! But there is so much stuff to comment on!

I don’t think we’ve ever sent back an unwatched Netflix disc…but Jason does rip them and add them to our sever so we can cycle through discs faster (not technically legal. Don’t tell). Occasionally he’ll think he’s ripped all the episodes of a tv show only to find out one of them got screwed up or didn’t transfer correctly after we’ve sent the disc back.

Are you going to get a new phone? Or just see if yours recovers after drying out for a bit?

Huge props to Gina for finishing C25K!

    • kilax says:

Yeah – that is the problem – the posts are too all over the place 🙂

I am not sure what the plan is for my phone. The phone itself works but the screen does not. So I could make calls, but I would not be able to see who I was calling (but you could press #6 to call you! I do have programmed #s). So… maybe Steven will try to fix the screen? Or maybe we will just get a new phone for me? I am going to let him decide what is best since I am not too in to phones 🙂

I like your random Thursday posts – I sometimes feel like my like is just all random stuff but I feel like no one would really care. Keep it up with the food journal – and keep trying with the eating. Just take it one day at a time…and remember it takes 21 days to form a habit. You can do it girly…just keep going forward and don’t give up!

  18. martymankins says:

I’ve sent back movies that were opened but sat on the TV for a few weeks without watching them so I could get the next one. I like that if it’s not been opened, Netflix sends it back to you. That’s nice.

I like the Random Thursday posts. Reminds me that I used to do random posts over on my blog… just checked and it’s been almost a year since my last one.

    • kilax says:

We actually told them what happened. You’ve had them send it back when you have sent it back by accident (that was a confusing question)?

Thanks! When are you going to do your random post?

      • martymankins says:

Nope, I’ve never had it happen to me before. I just thought it was automatic. but you confirmed you had to let them know.

I might put a Random post together tomorrow. Since I’m on a blogging roll with posts for the last 5 days here.
