Friday Question #190

By , April 6, 2012 6:19 am

What jewelry do you keep on when you sleep/work out/do physical labor?

For everything, I take it all off, except for earrings – I will leave my diamond studs in. My hands get so swollen when I run, I have to take my rings off (I am always amazed when I see the elites wearing their rings!!!). Necklaces swinging around annoy me when I am running. Bracelets too. I thrash around so much when I sleep, I have to take my jewelry off too, so I don’t break a necklace, or hurt Steven by gouging him with my ring.

I keep my wedding rings on for runs, sleeping, etc. The only time I take them off is if I’m going to get really messy, usually while cooking. I just started wearing my new pearl ring on runs (I used to never wear rings other than my engagement ring to run). I usually take off necklaces and earrings if they are dangly. I can’t sleep in studs but I can in hoops. I used to wear hoops all the time but now I rarely ever wear earrings at all (never remember to wear them).

I keep my watch on all the time, even when sleeping. I only take it off to shower. A lot of people find that weird and I have to agree that it is weird.
I only take my earrings out if they are really huge or bothering me. I am paranoid about my ear piercings closing up. Which I think is also weird. 😉

LOL, hmm, let’s say quirky, not weird! 😛 Have your ear piercings closed up before?

  3. bobbi says:

Usually nothing. Earrings on occasion, and sometimes I run in my rings now, but only because they are getting to be too big, and so when my hands swell up, it’s not painful like it used to be. I really need to get them sized….

  4. gina says:

I keep most of my jewelry on for everything. Except if I’m wearing a watch – that comes off for sleeping and usually five mins into my day : )

  5. Gingerfoxxx says:

I have a necklace i always wear, but its like a structured wire rather than a chain, so it doesn’t swing too much. I leave it on all the time out of sheer laziness 🙂

  6. Cary says:

I cannot run in rings! I’m always amazed by those who can. Occasionally I will run in stud earrings, but that’s about it. And I always have a few extra hair ties around my wrist, but nothing else.

  7. Amy says:

The only jewelry I wear at all times is my wedding band. And my Garmin when running but that really isn’t jewelry, is it?
    Happy Easter, Kim!

  8. Emily says:

I only wear my jewelry when I’m at work or out, or when I have friends over, etc. I don’t wear any jewelry (including my wedding rings) when I’m running or working out or when I’m home. I’ve had to take my wedding band in twice already for repairs (it’s a pave’ band, which it delicate), so I try to minimize the risks of damage to it where possible.

  9. Kelsey says:

i am so lazy i keep everything on. i only wear 2 rings and a necklace though. still, I’m lazy.

  10. J says:

The only jewelry I wear every day is my engagement and wedding rings. i wear them to work and then usually take them off when I get home. I don’t usually work out in them unless I have to. If I am doing gardening or cooking or washing dishes I take them off. I pretty much just don’t wear them too often! lol

  11. Alice says:

i have 2 rings that i wear all the time – working out, sleeping, showering – although they’re not wedding/engagement rings! i only take them off for pole (or lifting, when i was doing that a lot) because you have to grip so much during those activities & often it will pinch the skin at the base of your fingers & give you blisters. (i also take them off for frisbee actually – catching a well-thrown disc can snap the band of a ring)

  12. Melissa says:

I don’t wear any jewelry when working out or doing anything physical. My hands/fingers swell badly and I am too afraid of losing an earring. Heck, once I am in for the evening my watch, ring, whatever other jewelry come off immediately…I couldn’t imagine sleeping in any of those things.

  13. Melie says:

I only wear a ring on my thumb and a necklace which was passed from my grandmother to my mother to me, and I never take them off. Not when I work out, not when I sleep, not when I shower, never. I don’t even think of them as jewelry any more, if that even makes any sense.

  14. sizzle says:

I would have said nothing a couple months ago but since getting engaged, I keep my ring on when working out or doing whatever.

  15. Cher says:

I wear all rings while exercising and in fact, never take them off for anything. Btw, you and I have identical looking wedding rings!

  16. Christina says:

The only time I take off my engagement ring is when I work at KS, am showering, or am doing dishes. I keep my cartilage studs in my ear all the time, and my belly button ring. Those are mostly because I’m too lazy to ever take them out. Sometimes I fall asleep with a necklace on by accident. Then Dex bats at it in the morning.. -.-

    • kilax says:

Data chews on my diamond studs while I am sleeping to wake me up! And my studs are NOT that big!!!

  17. Marcia says:

I know! I think the same thing when i see jewelry-laden elites. That would drive me nuts. No jewelry for running or sleeping for me. I’d be afraid to catch a prong in the sheets and loosen the setting or something.

  18. Mica says:

I take off my two rings and my watch when I sleep, shower, run, and cook/do dishes. I have some weird paranoia that my fingers will swell when I sleep (and then they’ll have to cut my fingers off!).

Speaking of celebrity runners, have you noticed that in most pictures of Kara Goucher, her GIGANTIC engagement ring (and band) are prominently featured? Like, I get it, Kara, you’re married.

    • kilax says:

You never know! That could happen!!!

You know, maybe that is WHY I think about it with the elites, lol!

  19. Etta says:

I don’t often take my wedding rings off, though I do get kind of puffy when I get hot. I don’t take my earrings out very often if I’m just wearing studs.

  20. Erin says:

I don’t wear my rings when I run or lift weights and I prefer not to wear earrings as well although sometimes I’ll leave in studs but I hate wearing dangly earrings.

Lately, though, I’ve been leaving on my rings and my earrings when I lift weights at work.
