Training Week 190

Highlight of the Week: Participating in the Oread Ironman 70.3 Kansas relay! I had so much fun cheering my team on and hanging out with our awesome spectators! And surprisingly, I felt awesome during my midday run in the blazing sun! More on the relay later this week!

Notes:

  • I was so happy the humidity went away in Chicagoland this week, and that the temps dropped a bit too! I’m hoping it will stay that way. Ha ha ha.
  • I’m still not getting enough sleep at night (just going to bed way too late) and am struggling to get up in the morning and get some miles in. I really miss my early morning winter runs. I hope I get back in to soon – I feel so much better when I run first thing in the morning (and I eat healthier throughout the day when I do).
  • I don’t have many races on my calendar! The half marathon with Anne in two weeks, a 5K with Rachel on July 25 (test day!!!) and maybe a Independence Day 5K where my parent’s cabin is. That’s it! It feels good not to have a full schedule.

  1. That’s good you don’t have a ton of summer races scheduled…I need to take a cue from you and quite over scheduling myself! BAH! Congrats on the half too! Was it humid in Kansas?

    • kilax says:

It’s so hard not to over schedule! But it feels so good when you don’t! The humidity was about 60%, which seems decent, since it rained the entire night before!

  2. bobbi says:

I can’t wait to hear all about your relay!! And YESSSSS to not having a summer full of scheduled stuff! I only have 1 race – Wahoo!

  3. Kristina says:

Oooh, can’t wait to hear about the relay! And to slightly better temperatures – that is always a good thing!
I only have a race July 14, but I keep thinking about what I want to do in September, October, November…

  4. Woohoo for you! I can’t wait to hear about the excitement of a 70.3. I have zilch officially on the schedule save for Hood to Coast since I live in the race desert where Sunday races are seemingly forbidden.

I would also like to give three cheers for the drop in humidity though this morning was a soaker as I caught a break in rain for some miles.

  5. Can’t wait to hear about you 70.3 relay! I’ve been thinking about you this weekend when we were at Ragnar. 🙂 It looks like you had another fun week of training, as usual! 🙂 We’ll have to chat to plan another NFC lunch. I feel like I haven’t seen you in forever!

  6. Pete B says:

I could have written your first two bullet points. I am glad the humidity and temps dropped and I am also struggling to get miles in and miss winter running. In the good old days when I was a 5k to half marathoner (5+ years ago), I used to never race between June 15th and September 1st and my mile summer mileage dropped significantly, but it was no problem. Now that I run the Chicago Marathon (or NYC) in the fall, I need to keep up the mileage in the summer and it stinks! Oh well, I guess I could move to Alaska! 🙂

    • kilax says:

I dream about moving somewhere cold too. My husband dreams about moving somewhere where it’s above 60 all the time. Sigh. 😉

  7. Declan says:

Wednesday is my favorite photo! I want the temps to go up! Living right on the lake is chilly in the spring! Always cooler by the lake. Forecast minus 10! lol
Morning runs want you back! DOooooooo it! How later are you getting to bed?

Can’t wait to hear about the relay!

    • kilax says:

Hee hee hee. I know I am in the minority with loving the cold!

I used to get to bed around 9:30 and now it’s closer to 11:00. I have a hard time getting up at 4:30 to run! (I start work at 6:30).

  8. Xaarlin says:

Glad to see I’m not the only one who appreciate the drop in humidity and temps! (Although it seems most everyone else was bitching about it..)

I’m sooooo excited to hear about your 70.3 relay!

  9. Beth says:

I was loving last week’s weather, too. Would love it if it would stay that way all summer as well…probably shouldn’t hold my breath on that one. Looks like you had an awesome week! I think participating in a triathlon relay would be so much fun, as long as I’d get to be the runner. 😉 Have a great week! Hope you can catch up on your sleep.

  10. Erin says:

Also looking forward to hearing about the relay!! And, yes, the drop in temps was very welcome for this weekend.

  11. Anne says:

Heh, just a few races scheduled 🙂 I have ours, and then nothing until Zooma in August! Time to stop running! 😉

Can’t wait to hear all about Ironman, especially if it’s over bottomless fries. Or bottomless wine, whichever.

    • kilax says:

Cool! I didn’t know you were doing ZOOMA. The 10k? Or are you going for another half?

Duh. We totes went to Red Robin for dinner after the race 😉

      • Anne says:

I’ll try to get over my Red Robin envy as I write this…

I’m doing the 10k! My post-half goal is to get speedier at shorter distances, as I’m going to try to keep up with Katie at Zooma 🙂
