Training Week 192

Highlight of the Week: Everyone telling me and Anne how damn cute we were in our matching tops and flowers at the Chicago Women’s Half Marathon. Running Anne’s first half marathon with her! What an honor that she asked me and wanted to put up with my stinky self for an entire half!

Notes:

  • Alyssa came to my strength class Monday night! I love it when my friends come! It really means a lot to me. Especially since the studio isn’t close to a lot of my friends.
  • I am looking for ideas for a “dance” based playlist for my strength class – thinking tunes like “Beat It,” “Footloose,” “Maniac,” “Freeze Frame,” and maybe some tunes from Grease or Saturday Night Fever. Any suggestions for some fun “dance” tunes for my playlist?
  • My Wednesday night strength class took it out of me like WHOA. Gah! Steps and kettlebells are a killer workout! I was planning on teaching that tomorrow night. Um… no. I came up with something else. Ha ha ha.
  • ALL of my runs were with friends this week. It’s such a treat in the summer when it’s nasty humid out to have fun conversations as a distraction!
  • Anne did such a great job on her FIRST EVER half marathon today! And Fleet Feet puts on an AMAZING race. I usually don’t do city races, but I would go to Chicago to do that one again! And! Check out that schweet medal!

Yayyyy! Way to go Anne and you two look TOTALLY cute! Killer heat today, she did awesome!

And yay, I see fakemeats on the side now! 😀

    • kilax says:

Yeah, I told Steven that you didn’t know about it, and I think that encouraged him to create the banner for me 🙂 Thanks for the inadvertent reminder!

  2. Declan says:

so umm.. if we ever run together, can we wear matching outfits too? that would be pretty amazing.
    P.S. I like purple

  3. EmilyJ says:

Yay! Great training week 🙂 Lets do another run together soon! Congrats to you and Anne on the half today in less than ideal conditions. Added bonus, I love the matching outfits and have flower medal envy 😉

    • kilax says:

Yes! Let’s not pick the most humid day ever to run… deal?! 😉

I wonder what the medal will look like next year… hee hee.

  4. Valerie says:

Great training this week…and what a great friend you are to help pace Anne! Your matching flowers and tops are AWESOME!!!

  5. Xaarlin says:

I lOVED yours and Anne’s matchy matchy outfits today! Was bummed to miss you out on the course. I was looking forward to the hi five and butt smack. “Attaboy” haha

    • kilax says:

      Thank you!

I was bummed to miss you too! I kept looking for you, thinking I might see you through the woods and have the opportunity to smack your butt. Ha!

  6. Pete B says:

How about 9 to 5 by Dolly Parton. Did I just write that? 🙂

  7. Amy says:

Congrats to Anne – that’s a big milestone! And I loved the matching tops and the cute flower you both wore!

Suggestion that comes to mind: Groove Is in the Heart (Dee-Lite)

If I lived in Chicagoland, I would so come to your class!

  8. Anne says:

The highlight should definitely be how many people told us how cute we looked! This changes race wear for me forever.

Oh. And thanks for running in that god awful heat with me! I’d love to do it again sometime when it’s not on a red alert weather day 🙂

    • kilax says:

Yes! Winter half marathons! This is why I don’t usually race in the summer. It can be super intense with the heat!

  9. Brittani says:

You guys are totally cute being all matchy matchy! Why does matching someone else always amp the fun up? And that medal is gorrrrgeous.

  10. Beth says:

Sounds like you had a great week! Now I’m sad that I decided not to run the Women’s Half, although I doubt I would have done very well in the heat. That medal is pretty awesome. Keep up the awesome workouts! 🙂

  11. Marcia says:

Bummed I missed you AGAIN! Congrats to Anne. That is some tough weather for a first half. You two looked so cute!
    How about Madonna’s Vogue?

  12. Erin says:

You two did look pretty damn adorable in your matching outfits! You always know how to make a race super fun. Do you think you’ll try to do this race again next year?

    • kilax says:

Thanks! I would do the race again if someone asked me to pace them or if I did it with a group of friends for fun! 🙂

  13. Alyssa says:

Your class on Monday was fun! My muscles were sore on Tuesday! Unfortunately so was my back. I guess I should strength train more often!

    • kilax says:

Thank you! It was so fun to have you there!!! I appreciate you making the drive, especially since it made a late night for you!

Why do you think your back was sore? Bad form (I am wondering if I instructed you poorly) or just too much strength training at once? (lol)

Let me know if you ever want to come again 🙂

      • Alyssa says:

I think it was from the squat stuff–the shifting from side to side with squats and cones and possibly the jumping and squatting with resistance bands too. I think my form was okay but I do tend to collapse my back when I get tired which might have added to the problem. I do tend to get a sore back whenever I jump back into strength training after an extended break so I think it was just too much all at once. I got it to go away with a little bit of work from my massage ball!

        • kilax says:

Thank you for the insight! I will keep that in mind for the next time I do those sorts of lateral movements and the jumping. We had squat jumping with bars last night and I was telling a few people not to collapses their back (kind of in to lordosis back form).

Hope you had a nice weekend in IA!

  14. AmyC says:

Looks like a super fun week of workouts for you! You have a lot of workout buddies 😉
Congrats to you and Anne on your half marathon finish! That’s a great medal.
