Notes:

  • This week was a reminder of how blessed I am to normally be able to run with so many people! A lot of my runs this week were solo due to my schedule, and by Friday, I was ready to talk to someone. Anyone. Except myself.
  • Sigh. My long run this morning was just, so… off. I have been in a bad place all week. So my mood was messed up going in to it. Then I fell on the trail (we were running in the dark). Then I rolled my ankle three times – really badly the last time. I don’t think I broke anything though! Woo hoo! Ha ha. I am so happy I was running with Bobbi and Riyanti, otherwise I might still be curled up in a ball on the trail, whimpering and feeling frustrated.
  • Friday’s run was the first with a new pair of shoes! Ahh, they felt so good. I know I have asked this before, but, do you “break” your shoes in? Like, run small distances in them until you feel comfortable going longer? Or do you just go for it? And of course, I am talking about a style you know works for your foot, not something new (of course break that in!). I don’t break mine in at all. I have worn brand new shoes for races before. But a friend of mine said not breaking their shoes in enough before a race really messed them up! Must be something that is different for all of us!
  • I thought I was getting speedier due to dropping a few pounds, but then I thought about it, and it is probably just the temperature dropping. Ha ha. Either way, I will take it! Friday’s “asleep” run pace actually ended up being a lot faster than it felt. So, that is nice. Feeling like you are asleep when you are running… not so nice.
  • I thought this article (pdf here) about charity races/walks booming in Chicago (and across the nation) was interesting. Especially the mention that September is the busiest month. And that everyone thinks they can do a marathon because of Oprah. Ha ha. Did any of you think you could do a marathon because Oprah did? That she did one is not something I knew until after I did one. What can I say? I don’t keep track of Oprah’s life. Ha ha.
  • I am really close to my monthly distance mileage record! I am excited to see where I end up tomorrow…

I sure hope your ankle is ok! We all have those ‘ugly’ runs. GREAT job this week. Hope you have a great week upcoming!

  2. Xaarlin says:

Um I hope you won’t run until yor ankle is ok. Mmmmmm K? 🙂

I hope you break your monthly mileage record only if the ankle lets you. I don’t know when I’ll ever get my mileage up enough to beat 215… I think that’s my record. From las year. Haven’t broken 200 year in 2013. Oprah had nothing to do with me running a marathon. 🙂

I hope this week goes better for you. And that you have more friends to run with 🙂

I won’t run on it if it’s bad 😉 I rested this am – waiting for the swelling to go down 🙂

Do you ever run during your lunch break? I am guessing no, but it’s worth asking…

I was thinking of you on Friday when I was so sick of running solo. I was all “Xaarlin does this ALL THE TIME! What is my problem?!” 😉

  3. jan says:

Oprah has a personal chef and a trainer and a housekeeper and a million other people working for her. I could easily do a marathon in that case, too. 😉

I hate those bad runs. I hope it means that a great one is right around the corner! 🙂

  4. kelsey says:

That long run sounds crazy! So glad you had friends to keep you going!

  5. Rachel says:

Oh no! I hope your ankle is okay today! Sounds like a good week of workouts, even though you were on your own a lot.

I don’t break in my shoes either. I used a new pair for a race a couple weekends ago. 🙂 (not the marathon! hah)

I didn’t run a marathon because of Oprah, but Mattie and I did bring up that we wanted to beat her time last weekend. We didn’t. GRRRR!!

    • kilax says:

I don’t even know what her time is! What is it?

The ankle is better today! Well, you probably already know that. LOL. But, maybe next time I am so lonely you can come run with me?! 🙂

  6. Kandi says:

I hope your ankle is ok! I nearly fell off the path I was running on yesterday but luckily I didn’t fall and my ankle is fine. I freaked out my running partners a bit though.
I definitely didn’t run my marathon because Oprah did but I really wanted to beat her time and was pretty excited when I did! I think that was mostly because it was the same marathon she ran and I had heard people talking about it beforehand.

  7. Pete B says:

Yes, this cool weather has made me faster as well. I don’t start crashing due to heat exhaustion after mile 8, I just feel like I can keep running. Anyway, I think lots and lots of people set their marathon goal as to beating Oprah’s time. I see it lots on athlinks where people post their marathon goals on the race calendars! Oh yeah, I am terrified of new shoes and break them in slowly. I go way, way beyond the 500 mile limit if I find a shoe that I like. It’s more like a 2,500 mile limit! Seriously. 🙂

    • kilax says:

LOL! Come on, you don’t run THAT much on your shoes 😉

Are you ready for some SNOW?! LOL! Bring the cold temps to stay! What was this 80 bs today?!

  8. Erin says:

Bummer about the ankle! What a cruddy way to end a cruddy week. I hope it feels better this afternoon.

  9. Michele says:

    BE CAREFUL ON THE TRAILS!!!!!!

We all know how that ended up for me!!!!

I don’t break shoes in, I just run in them. I ran a half marathon last year in a new pair and it didn’t bother me one bit!
