Notes:

  • I wasn’t even one minute in to my first run of the week when I saw a (live) skunk. Ha ha. They ARE everywhere! We turned around (after I freaked Kelly out, oops), so, no spraying or barfing. Yay!
  • I hit 1,000 running miles for the year during Sunday’s run! I haven’t been paying too much attention to my yearly mileage and it kind of snuck up on me. I am surprised I even hit that, this year! It’s been a chill running year, for sure. At least, the first seven months.
  • It was such a treat to fit in a quick DC monuments run while I was there for a short work trip (some photos from the run below!). Aside from the awe of running by the monuments, I was in awe of how many people were out early, working out (just like any other major city, I suppose!). I ran across a November Project group using the FDR monument for plyo (ha ha) and I saw several military groups, some sort of tour running group, and lots and lots of individuals! It definitely left me feeling happy for the rest of my day.
  • One week until my first marathon of the year! I am getting excited! This will be the first marathon I have ever run twice – that is how beautiful I thought Milwaukee was the first time I ran it. And Bobbi and I will run as much of it as possible together, so I am looking forward to all the chat time. Right now my goal is to maintain an 11:00 minute mile average. But eh, it’s me, I won’t be disappointed if I’m slower!

I thought of you when I had a skunk posture at me during my run last night! I hadn’t known one was close and it scared me to death, I think I sprinted for half a mile!

    • kilax says:

Ha ha ha! They’ll do that to ya! Another runner friend told Kelly that the skunk lives in a tunnel near where we run so we are avoiding that particular part of the street from now until winter 😉

  2. Amy says:

Great week and glad you got to run in DC. I do love running through that city 🙂 And I am super glad to hear you only had a “normal” delay for your trip back home (still any delay is annoying, but you got by better than most).

    • kilax says:

Yes! I felt so lucky we only had an hour wait! Gosh! I feel so bad for the people stranded. Although I did have a friend I could have stayed with if need be, in DC. 🙂

  3. Chaitali says:

I love the photos from your DC run, looks like it was beautiful! I love all the runners I see out and about in this area. Good luck for the marathon!

  4. Pete B says:

Nice pics of DC. I’ve never been there but it looks like a great place for a morning run.

  5. So cool that you got to experience some of the local running community in DC! Running the National Mall is one of the coolest experiences ever. In general, I find that running is one of the best ways to get to see and know a new location! I giggled when I read about the group using the FDR monument for plyo. 🙂 It’s all about being resourceful, yes?

So excited for you to run Milwaukee!!!!!

    • kilax says:

I love love love running through a new area. I had actually run through the National Mall before, but it felt different! Probably because I was not injured like last time I was there!

I was totally LOLing when I saw them doing box jumps off of the monument! Hee hee!

Thank you! Me too! I will have to catch you up on all that when we run Prairie State 😉

  6. Erin says:

I’m glad you got to travel for work again because I know you love running in new places!

Also, yay for Milwaukee! I hope you and Bobbi have a great time!

    • kilax says:

Thanks! Are you surprised to hear that I didn’t really believe the trip was going to happen until I was on the plane? LOL 🙂

      Thanks!

  7. Thank goodness I only see deer and the occasional frog!!

  8. Good luck in Milwaukee!!!

  9. Tiina says:

You’re going to rock your marathon!

  10. Beth says:

Congrats on hitting 1000 miles! I love the National Mall–so many pretty things to see! My best friend lived in DC in 2007 and I took a week to go visit her. She lived a short distance from the Hill so I would run to the Mall and back. Loved those runs! Good luck with this week’s runs and your marathon this weekend!

    • kilax says:

That is so awesome you got to spend a whole week in DC! I have only ever been there for work and haven’t had the time to do all the museums/etc. Some day! 🙂

  11. Meghan says:
