Steven asked if I wanted to adopt a kitten!

By , March 17, 2018 7:45 am

He actually asked me two weeks ago, so you’re probably surprised this post isn’t me introducing the newest member of our family to you!

I’m surprised too. And I was surprised when Steven asked. He’s never had a kitten, and thought it would be fun. I bet it would be fun too. AND CRAZY.

Everyone I tell this to immediately says “YES OMG GET A KITTEN RIGHT MEOW OMG YASSSSSSSS!!!!”

Except when I told Rachel. Who recently adopted a young cat. She said “how much do you like your furniture?” Hmm, or did she ask me “How much do you like your things not being destroyed?” Ha. Same difference!

So we’re thinking about it. We’d adopt (from the vet/shelter/a rescue, etc.). I told the vet to let us know when they get their annual spring kittens brought in from the farms.

This is horrible (but true), but since Snow passed, it’s been much easier to take care of two indoor cats, compared to two indoor and one outdoor. Obviously, this new kitten would live inside, but I do wonder about the extra “work.” And of course, what Data and Khali would think!

  1. How exciting! I am thinking of adopting another kitten too.

That so sweet of him!! It’d be a lot of work no doubt but hella cute. A major pick me up is a cute little furry baby!!! I admire your restraint lol.

Ha, thanks! I am kind of like “who am I, not saying yes and rushing out the door to a shelter the minute he asked?!”

OK, so see, I’m a sucker for kittens, which would explain how we had four cats at one point. BUT. They will seek and destroy your furniture and blinds, all in the name of KITTEN FUN. So there’s that, and I get your hesitation. That said, KITTENSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!! Get you one.

Ha ha ha ha ha, this comment is amazing!!! ๐Ÿ˜€ And hey, no window treatments here (although, Khali shreds the bed skirts instead)! Just some older furniture!

  4. Katie says:

Well yeah, of course your friends all want you to get a kitten! That way they get to cuddle and play with a cute baby kitty, without having to take care of it and with their possessions safely out of range. Smart of them, really ๐Ÿ˜‰ Yay for rescues, always makes me think of that story about the starfish…you can’t save them all, but for that one, you make all the difference ๐Ÿ™‚

That was nice that he asked, and I can see why people would want you to get a kitten. They do seem fun, but having raised a LOT of kittens, I agree that they are a lot of work and can destroy your furniture.

One of my co-workers is always talks about the insane-sounding stuff she has to do since her cat and her roommate’s cat don’t get along. Introducing cats always seems so stressful, so I can see why you’d hesitate with D and K too!

    • kilax says:

I didn’t know you’d raised so many (although I am sure you told me)! What did you think was the most work?! More importantly… how does Inkling like Max?!

Oh man, that stinks. I feel so lucky that Data and Khali get along. I’d feel so bad to make Data unhappy!

  6. Amy says:

Oh, dear, I missed your post about Snow passing away…I’m so sorry!
Hugs and good luck with the new kitten, when it comes…
    xxx ooo

  7. Maggie says:

Kittens are cute and all, but they are so curious and yeah, destructive! But their curiosity can be fun.

  8. Anne says:

Wow! I wonder what Data and Khali would think of a kitten! I do get what you mean with two cats being easier now (and that’s not a bad thing to say). I loved having 2 dogs, but yeah they can be a lot of work too, so having just one that’s pretty easy IS nice.

    • kilax says:

I wonder what they would think too – like would it make Khali even more hyper and playful or would she be like “dafuq?!”

I can’t imagine walking two big dogs!

  9. We had kittens in one of my houses in college (we weren’t *supposed* to have kittens, but one of my roommates found them somewhere and decided to make them her own, thus we had kittens. Haha.). They were SO adorable, with their tiny meows and their big huge eyes! They were so funny, too – sometimes they’d creep into my room, and as soon as I acknowledged them they’d sprint away. One of them very much enjoyed climbing up my jeans when I was in the kitchen (where they lived, for the most part). All that being said, it would take a lot (A. LOT.) to convince me to adopt a kitten or a puppy. Nooooo thank you. I’d like my pets to come fully grown and trained, thanks. Kittens and puppies are way cuter than cats and dogs, but man, just volunteering at PAWS for a few months several years ago was enough to cure me of ever wanting a puppy. The only babies I want to raise are human ones, because at least they learn to communicate at some point, haha. Though it *does* take longer to teach them where it’s most appropriate to go to the bathroom! ๐Ÿ˜›

    • kilax says:

Oh man, it must have been so fun to have those kittens with your roommates!!! Squeee! Playing with kittens = instant stress relief! Did you find homes for all of them?

But I hear you on not wanting to train them! Xaarlin has told me often how hard it is to raise their puppy and it seems like more work than I want! Maybe we should look for a teenage cat ๐Ÿ˜‰
