Random Thoughts Thursday 177

  • These oreos. Delish. [not sponsored]

  • THIS HUMMUS. Heart eyes emoji! And paired with Everything Pretzel Slims?! Cat making home alone face emoji! I’m not actually a plain Sabra hummus fan but their flavored hummuses are D-O-P-E. If anyone local EVER finds “Taco Inspired,” please let me know! Gina gets it for me when I visit her in Dallas and I can’t find it here! (Yeah, I used their locator tool but I never trust those.) [not sponsored]

  • That random book I picked up at the free library at the train station, The Salt Line, is hands down my favorite novel of the year. I apparently really dig novels set in the near dystopian future, that aren’t written pompously, like that last book I read in this genre. I may check out more by this author, and the books it’s been compared to on Good Reads (Station Eleven and California).
  • I tried to pick up another book yesterday at the train station, but the one I chose had a slight issue… wah. Ha.

  • If the weather is decent for my half marathon on Saturday, I’ll be wearing this guy! I have an old (2013) half marathon PR of 1:51:15. However, summer has arrived here, and I’ve been running in the 70s/80s this week, so we’ll see!

That hummus sounds awesome! Sabra has a pine nut hummus that I really like. For plain hummus, eh, I just make my own and it’s usually pretty good.

It’s summer here already too, which has definitely made running tough. On Sunday I was still wearing gloves and a jacket, and on Tuesday was overheating in shorts and a tank. THANKS WEATHER! I hope the weather for your HM is decent! And not crazy windy!

    • kilax says:

Oh yum! I bet I would like that too 🙂 Homemade hummus is AMAZE 🙂

Isn’t it crazy? Like we do this every year, but this year it feels especially cruel. 🙁 Thanks, I hope so too.

While I’m happy for her marathon win, I pray she’s not allowed to trademark that phrase. It’s clearly not something she created as I’ve heard it used by motivational speakers for decades. And I think this spate of trademarking random phrases is garbage because all it does is glut our legal system with time-wasting lawsuits from trademark owners against people who strung three seemingly random words together not knowing that they legally can’t ever use that because (GULP!) it’s trademarked and they owe the owner for the right to speak. Sorry but it’s ridiculous.

    • kilax says:

It’s a f*cked up system that people can trademark a phrase at all, but I bet it happens if no one else got to it first (which really seems to be what trademarking things like phrases and IP is all about – saying I thought to trademark this first).

That hummus looks fantastic! I must find it!
Maybe someone needed those pages for a bathroom emergency! haha that’s all I could think of when I saw that pic!
I hope the weather is good for you this weekend! My 2 runs this week have made me feel sooooo hot! I haven’t had any time to acclimate yet!

    • kilax says:

      I got it from Woodman’s!

Ha! ha ha! Maybe that is it 😉

Me too. Gah, it’s especially cruel to have this weather now, after how our April has been!

  4. Chaitali says:

Taco inspired hummus!?! That sounds amazing. I don’t think I’ve ever seen it around here but I’m going to keep an eye out for it. And those pina colada oreos 🙂

    • kilax says:

IT IS!!!!! Let me know if you see it, even though I don’t live there, so you can tell me if you liked it!!

  5. Pete B says:

    Good luck in the half!

  6. kathy says:

That book sounds exactly like the kind of books and TV I love….so I got it!! Online book club? Rest day is sorted, ha ha.

Taco hummus sounds amazing. I usually am pretty basic and get their roasted red pepper hummus.

    Fingers crossed for Saturday.

    • kilax says:

Awesome!!! Online book club, yasssssssss. Let me know what you think! I could totally see this book being made in to a movie.

IT IS. sigh. I wish I could find it here.

      Thank you!

  7. I haven’t even heard of Pina Colada Oreos! They have so many fancy flavors of Oreos now. I don’t mind it, but I’m still perfectly happy with a Double Stuf of Mega Stuf. I’m pretty much just in it for the frosting when it comes to Oreos, so the more the better in my opinion 🙂

I hope the weather is nice on Saturday! It got SO cold between when I left for work this morning and when I went out for a walk at lunch, so hopefully that bodes well for the race!

    • kilax says:

Double stuf mega is pretty awes town!!! They also have two other new flavors in regular size – cherry cola and kettlecorn.

I hope it’s cold in the am too. I would not be happy if it was in the 70s like it was yesterday am when I left at 5:45. Ha!

  8. Amy says:

What will they do next with Oreos??? And…never thought of pretzels with hummus, but now that you mention it…especially since I gave up chips this year, it would be a great treat.

I have a weakness for dystopian novels, too, and loved the California trilogy – so I’d probably enjoy The Salt Line – I’ll keep my eyes open for it!

    • kilax says:

You never know! I enjoy trying the new flavors!

Oh yes! Regular pretzels or the crisps… or is that cheating with no chips?!

Oh cool! And I hope the library gets the California trilogy for me (I put in a hold request!).

  9. martymankins says:

Thanks for the heads up on these! I still need to visit Target to look for these new Oreo flavors. And I have a few flavors I’ve not blogged about yet.

    • kilax says:

You’re welcome! I found Kettlecorn to try! It’s good – tastes like maple. Ha. I still like pina colada the best. Can’t wait to see the flavors you are meaning to blog. Do eeeeeeeeeeeet!

  10. Mica says:

I wonder if that taco-flavored Sabra is regional. I haven’t seen it here (but I also never buy hummus).

I also love pretzel thins! (We have them at work, so I eat them every once in awhile…I guess I could also eat them with some hummus.)

I didn’t know they made piña colada-flavored Oreos. Do they only come in that thin kind?

My first reaction to the trademarked phrase was a little “ugh,” but then I realized what a smart and savvy business move that was on her part. Good for her!!

    • kilax says:

We found it yesterday at Target (which is odd since that Target has WAY limited choices). So it’s in TX, IL (and OH, a friend confirmed, ha). Do you like hummus?

They’re so good! Way better than regular hard pretzels. BUT NOT SOFT PRETZELS WHICH ARE THE BEST EVER.

They do 🙁 I wish they were at least original stuff. Sigh.

That is the same reaction I had. I was like “really?” then “whatever, bank on it, girl!!!” ha
