Cottage time!

Last full weekend of June, first full weekend of summer! Let’s do some summer-y things!

FRIDAY!

On Friday night we used our summer bowling passes for the first time! And realized Friday night is not the best night to go bowling (duh, Kim) – note taken. We also had El Famous for dinner, cause it’s right there, so why not?!

SATURDAY!

We drove to Waupaca, Wisconsin on Saturday morning to spend the day/night with Rachel and Kevin at a cottage on Rainbow Lake. The cottage has been in Rachel’s friend’s Kim’s family for almost one hundred years! I was hoping Kim would be there too and she was! YAY!!!!!

Rachel sandwich! Kim, Rachel, Kim (me)

We spent the day playing in the water, boating, and eating. There was lots of good conversation, and LOTS of goofing off. A perfect summer day in my book!

I enjoyed ignoring my phone and only took it out to take a few photos (and to text with Bobbi about the cats, since she was cat sitting)!

SUNDAY!

Rachel and Kevin kept telling us how beautiful the sunrises are off the lake! I grabbed a photo of it… then went back to bed. Yassssssssssss.

Rachel and I ran (yay!), made breakfast, then we all went on a boat ride,

and we left around noon. We encountered typical Sunday traffic in Wisconsin, so the drive home took longer than on the way there because of idiotic (don’t even get me started) construction and traffic. Ugh.

But we had a relaxing evening! We did a few chores, watched an episode of Mad Men, made a lasagna casserole for dinner (aka, when you want lasagna but don’t have the right noodles), watched a bit of W. and called it a night!

I’m glad we got to see and experience cottage life! Rachel’s been telling me about going there for years, and I totally get why she loves it! It’s such a relaxing, slow-paced place.

  1. What a nice weekend! We had some family friends growing up who had a cottage, and the one time we got to use their cottage for a summer weekend was heavenly! Glad you guys had a good time 🙂

It’s such a nice thing to have! I think it’s interesting out here, how a lot of people have family “cottages” (we call them “cabins” where I am from).

Sounds like a perfect get away 🙂 That’s so cool that the cottage has been in your friend’s family for 100 years!

I thought so too! They had a lot of interesting older furniture and you could tell it was constructed differently than a modern home!

What a wonderful getaway! Years ago we went to a cabin at Lake Arrowhead (in S. Cal.) that had been in a friend’s family for decades; there was no TV, no phone (and this was before cell phones) and we had the best time, playing games and cooking together and just being. Your friend’s cottage sounds very similar. 🙂

Yes! It was exactly like that! Time goes so slow and people INTERACT and it’s amazing. Have you ever taken a vacay like that with the kadults?

What a fun weekend! Cottage time at a lake is on my to do , I mean bucket list. Actually I want to own a tiny house on a lake so we can visit there when we want to escape the city 🙂

      LOL, do eeeet.

Wouldn’t that be amazing? We actually looked at lake properties when we were buying our current home. It was lake property OR have some property (acreage). But like you, I’d love to have that escape! We kind of have it now with going to our family cabins in IA 🙂

That sounds so relaxing! What a nice getaway for you guys 🙂 When I used to visit a cottage in Michigan regularly, my favorite thing about it was that cell phones didn’t work there, so there was no choice but to unplug and disconnect.

    • kilax says:

Yes! The place we go to in Iowa used to be that way… until they upgraded the tower strength (or added more towers), ha! But it’s still the kind of atmosphere where you don’t want to be on your phone at all. Do you think you’ll visit a place like that this summer?

Cottage time looks and sounds amazing, the perfect summer weekend (minus the traffic!). You might have told me this already, but was the water nice and warm for swimming? (But not warm enough for bacterial infections?)

I love lasagna casserole (or skillet lasagna)–real lasagna is too time-consuming to make.

Gah, el famous! I want some french fries!

    • kilax says:

Ha ha ha, lol bacterial infections. It was warm enough for swimming! Not shocking-cold like what I am used to in the Mississippi until it warms up later in the year.

Lasagna is a whole lot of freaking work! So much prep and so much cooking time to be devoured in < 5 mins!!! OMG YASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS I could always go for papas fritas!
