I knew it!

By , June 14, 2011 7:48 am

I have not been in my office to use my salad dressing since I wrote this, and look at it this morning:

I knew it! I knew someone was using it. Sigh. I put the bottle in a brown paper bag and stapled it shut. Hopefully that will deter people from using it without asking. Or maybe I should measure out a serving each morning and bring it to work in a plastic container.

In other news, my two nephews sent me these drawings in the mail (the two sheets with lines on them below):

They have drawings on them and Star Wars stickers all over both sides. And look at what my older nephew wrote:

Ha ha. Too cute!

Also, I left my bike at the train station this morning to ride home. I hope it’s still there when I get off the train!

Maybe if I like riding my bike today I will do it more often… then Steven won’t have to get up at the buttcrack of dawn* to take me to the train station.

*Or as my mom said once, and we won’t let her live down, “the crack of buttlight.”

Too funny about your salad dressing, though frustrating! Bringing it in each morning sounds like it would be annoying and you would risk having it leak everywhere. Hope the paper bag works!
I hope your bike is there when you get back too! I’ve considered riding my bike but have never done it.

  2. I’d get little containers for your dressing. Or, if anything, just use one of those little containers that shooters of alcohol come in? Maybe?

“The crack of buttlight” HA HA HA. That’s awesome.

It seems rather ridiculous that someone keeps using your dressing even when they see you are marking it and are onto them. They like to dance with danger, apparently!

  4. Alice says:

i can’t believe the dressing thief was bold enough to use it even with your marks!! i’m now super curious to see if they break into the stapled bag!

  5. J says:

Drastic times call for drastic measures! I am interest to see who it is who is stealing from you and if they go into your stapled bag!!! Oh I love office drama! lol

  6. Thats so annoying. I make my own dressing every day, one salad at a time and bring it to work that way. Its probably not the most time effective, but it saves me from having to share when I dont want to.

LOL – the crack of buttlight?!
Maybe you should put a very nasty tasting ingredient in your bottle of salad dressing and put it back in the fridge and see what happens???

  8. Oh I bet that will be a nice refreshing ride home after work. I always enjoy the ride home better than the ride to work. And yes, those drawings were too cute!!

That’s so sad that you have to staple your salad dressing in a paper bag. We had the same issue years ago with coffee creamer that people has used Sharpies to mark their name on it, yet people would still use it without asking.

The person decided to use an empty coffee creamer container and found some expired milk and put it in there. Sure enough, after one use, no one ever took the coffee creamer again and that person was able to keep their creamer in the break room fridge without anyone stealing it again.

    Food for thought.

It looks like your desk is tilted. Are you sure the bottle is at the same pitch as when you marked it? Maybe you should use a plumb-bob before you get too upset 😉 Ha ha.

  11. Britt says:

Those salad dressing stealing jerks. Shame on them.

  12. Stephany says:

Bad, bad coworkers! I just couldn’t do that – especially if they marked the bottle! I hope the bag trick works. 🙂

  13. Co-workers (can) suck!!! We had that same problem at one job I had… the co-worker ended up putting a ton of ex-lax (or something similar to that) in the food and left it there for the food thief… they quit “borrowing”/”stealing” right after that. It’s sad that it has to come to that… but, hey, you do what you have to do!! Your nephews are too cute!!!
    =^..^=

  14. Did you know it’s Bike to Work week in Chicago? Are you participating?

    • kilax says:

I didn’t know! I know bike to work day was in May, right? I can’t bring my bike on the train in the am – bikes are only allowed on Metra during non-rush hour trains.

  15. Those drawings are adorable!

I went back and read your race stuff and I have to say that the race looks like so much fun but I agree with you about the lack of sleep. I don’t think I could do it!

  16. Joey says:

You should print out a picture of the bottle from that view and tape it to the bottle with a note that says “I’m on to you!”

  17. Christina says:

Can you put a mini-fridge by your desk for your own personal belongings? Or maybe get a small lock box to keep in the fridge with your things inside.. OR you could put a fake bug in it! Like a plastic one that looks realistic! Then you could keep eating the dressing but everyone else would think there was a bug in it!

    • kilax says:

I can’t put in a mini-fridge (not energy efficient, or up to Chicago Code) but I like the way you think with the bug! Or the dish soap! HA HA HA!

  18. Soooooo annoying. I just don’t get it. Do you think it’s someone in your office or do you think it’s the cleaning crew at night? We definitely had someone taking our coffee overnight. Crazy. We have little Rubbermaid containers we use for salad dressing … it works pretty well, actually. Might not be a bad investment if you don’t want to continue to be the office salad dress supplier. =)
