I’m not matching (on purpose, I swear!)

By , April 11, 2012 5:45 am

My nail polish does not match my outfit today.

But that’s okay, because my outfit doesn’t really match my outfit today:

I seem to be getting very adventurous (for me) with my April fashion challenge… thing. I’ve been wearing some funky stuff, and today, shocker, even trying pattern mixing!

Pattern mixing scares me. When I think about it, all I can picture is models in fashion magazines mixing florals with stripes and oriental prints and that just looks so blah to me. But I can deal with mixing two patterns of black & white. And as for the nail polish thing… well, it used to really bother me when my nail polish did not exactly match my outfit. But now, I am just painting those babies to keep them out of my mouth, so whatever color is on there is perfect for me!

Have you tried pattern mixing? Do you care if your nail polish perfectly matches your outfit?

The other thing about nail polish is that if it’s done right, it should last a few days, so it would be annoying to plan a few days of outfits around them matching your polish! Ha ha.

I don’t pattern mix much but a lot of my clothes are solids. I wouldn’t know the first thing about pattern mixing and making it look like I intended to mix them!
I rarely paint my finger nails so I never have to worry about them matching my outfit. If I did have paint on my nails I’m sure I wouldn’t care what clothes I wore though.
I’m on day 4 of the challenge and I can already tell that by the end I’m going to struggle in the morning when I’m getting ready. I may have to start planning my clothes in advance. My 5am brain doesn’t like to think about clothes.

Yeah, think about it the night before! That is kind of what I do. Although sometimes I spend 10 mins trying different things on. And I am just trying not to wear the same outfit twice. I bet you can totally do that!!!

I am ok with mixing and matching nail polish with outfits – except for making formal events. But I am not good with patterns. I have mostly solid color shirts, I try to branch out but its hard. I am wearing a solid purple long sleeve polo today with brown pants. Very creative, huh!?

ohhh I really like that polish color! what is it??

  4. I am very slowly warming up to patterns in general. I’m more of a solids girl because they’re easier to mix and match. Even the trend of color blocking scares me. I’m conservative with colors…

I haven’t done much pattern mixing. Do we get to see a pic of the final outfit at the end of the challenge?

I used to be so afraid to mix patterns but I’ve grown funkier in my old age and now I embrace it. Looks good!

  7. I think I own one top with a pattern on it, so mixing them isn’t really a consideration for me. I kind of just throw things on and hope for the best, not much thought goes into it.

I make it a daily goal to mix as many patterns and colors as possible!

  9. I adore that polish!!! Must. Buy. It. Immediately! 🙂

I want to mix patterns – I really, really do! I see girls that do it all the time that looks super cute! But I’m so clueless when it comes to fashion that I feel like I won’t be able to pull it off.

You’re much braver than I am. I think my entire wardrobe is solids from the same 3 color families. I do love when other people can be daring with fashion and pull it off, though. Good for you!

  11. You did a great job with the pattern mixing! Same color family and breaking it up with the cardigan and the belt (hahaha, I can cheat and talk about the whole outfit because I got to see you in person).

I used to HATE mixing patterns. I still don’t do it all the time, but I have plans 🙂

Thanks! I am feeling a bit “uniform-y” lately with my sweater/belt combo. Any ideas for me to still look “put together” (ha ha ha)?

If I manage to put on real clothes and not have dirt under my nails I feel like I’m doing pretty well.

  13. This bothers me too, don’t worry! Every time I paint my nails, I have a huge internal debate thinking about what I will wear before it all chips off. Will it match? Drives me nuts!

I am a giant pattern chicken. True story. I have solid everything.

Yup…running the 10k. James has been home sick for 2 days, so I have to run anyhow. I figured if I’m going to spectate, I may as well run it. And yeah – racing it on my own 🙂 Are you running? Which distance?

    • kilax says:

Yay for racing the 10K! 🙂 Can’t wait to hear about it!

If I come it will be for the 5K. I am not ready to race a 10K!
