Training Week 130

By , April 15, 2012 12:34 pm

Highlight of the Week: Running with friends of course (all of my runs this week were with other people), but also, running a 20 miler for fun. Bobbi‘s birthday is today, and I set up a little (okay, LONG) fun run for her with running club friends participating. She had 18 to do, and I started a bit early with my friend Yvonne who wanted to do 20, so it was nice to get an easy 20 in. I guess what was nice was to know I can do it. I am not sure how nice it will feel tomorrow! I have a date with the foam roller today. And the couch. And some vegan ice cream. And other healthy stuff. I swear!

Lessons learned:

  • Doubles are feasible (see: Tuesday) – not smart – but feasible! I had two runs on Tuesday due to poor planning/FOMO, but it was a fun day!
  • Don’t plan on doing a run after strength workout, because I am NOT going to want to do it.
  • No more racing – I need to lose weight and get my mental game together.
  • I need more than my handheld on a run longer than 10 miles when it’s humid.
  • I hate the 20-30 mph winds (Sunday) but they actually make the humidity more bearable. How’s that for positivity?!

Reminders for next week:

  • Get more sleep, so I don’t feel dead each day between 2:00-3:00 pm. I set up a daily reminder in my phone to foam roll and that really worked, so I might set up a “GO TO BED!” timer.

The pics are great! My trainer throws those medicine balls at me (he claims it’s “to” me). Love the one of you with that giant tomato. More sleep and less FOMO sounds like a good plan for both of us!

I love the move where I do crunches and my trainer throws balls to me! Or when I just sit half up and he throws them!

I hope we both get more sleep this week! 🙂

Awesome week of workouts. Nice job on the 20 miler!! I’m sorry about the frustration of racing lately. I hope taking some time off will be good for you. I think you need to post a video of how to foam roll :-). Have a great week!

I am worried I would be doing it all wrong in my video!!! Do you have a foam roller? 🙂 How has your running been going?

  3. Kristina says:

Wow – that is SO impressive that you ran 20 miles “for fun”. You are great!
Good luck with the sleep this week!

  4. Duuuude awesome job on the birthday trunk of food!!

  5. J says:

I try to get more sleep all the time now that I am running higher mileage. Its tough but my running buddy and I have a system. We usually text each other around 9pm and remind the other to get to bed. OR we brag about how we are in bed and going to sleep. Either way it helps. I think your reminder on your phone thing works well too! I should try that for foam rolling!

Another high mileage week!! I did a 7 miler with a friend on Saturday. The longest I’ve run in a while. I felt like I could have run a lot more miles after though. But then I got home and went hiking and my legs were sore the rest of the day. haha.

  7. Erin says:

You ran 20 miles for fun at your marathon pace??? Are you sure you aren’t planning something you’re not telling us about?

    • kilax says:

Don’t worry, you don’t have to come run 6 miles in Madison in the rain this year… unless you want to?

Just kidding. I just like to run long 🙂

  8. bobbi says:

Laughing at Erin! That’s exactly what I was thinking this morning.

Just wanted to thank you one more time. You made my birthday so special – I don’t think you know…thanks for being such an awesome friend!

  9. Emily says:

Oh my gosh, you just went out and ran 20 miles for the heck of it, without a gradual mileage buildup over several months!?!?!? That is amazing!!! You realize this means you could go out and do a marathon pretty much in a few weeks if you wanted to. WOW!!!

  10. I am really loving these recaps!!! So motivating to read!

  11. haha I love that you just called a 20 mile run easy. I’m still in pain from my 10k on Saturday. Like, my butt is so sore I’m expecting to look in the mirror and find it two inches higher than it was last week.

    • kilax says:

Oh my gosh. My butt is so so so so sore right now (has been for a few days!). I am not sure what my trainer did to me, but I feel like I have a giant knot in each butt cheek. The foam roller is not getting them out, either!

  12. Melie says:

hmm… 20 miles and fun? In the same sentence? I am just so confused… Irrelevant maybe, but as time goes by, I am liking this week recap format more and more.

  13. Gingerfoxxx says:

ok, under the 20 miles, next to difficulty you accidentally wrote “easy” I just thought i would let you know. I’ll forgive it this time, but next time……. 😉

    • kilax says:

LOL – I think I ran my 20 A LOT slower than you did yours. And we stopped a lot to pick up people 🙂
