June Running Update

  • I am a Race Ambassador for the ZOOMA Women’s Half Marathon and 5K in Lake Geneva, WI on October 20! This is a race I have wanted to do for years, but it has never worked out with my marathon schedule… until now (since I am not running a marathon this year, ha ha)! It’s a hilly out-and-back course and I am looking forward to the challenge! If you are interested in doing the race, use coupon code GLAMB8 for $10 off the half marathon and $5 off the 5K (register here). Prices increase on August 5th! Did I mention the half marathon finishers get a necklace? Schweet!

  • I mentioned that Mizuno is running the schweet Mezamashii Run project right now, and are giving out hundreds of shoes. Mizuno contacted me and asked that I encourage all of you to apply for free shoes! Just go to this site and click on “Apply for invite.” My contact said there is not much competition now to get in and that tons of shoes are still being given away!
  • We did not make it to Kettle Moraine this weekend to check out the course for the 9/15  North Face Endurance 50K.  My heart really tells me to sign up for this race, but my head tells me to wait until prices increase on 8/15 (and hope that the race does not sell out). The truth is, my weekends have been really busy lately, and I have not been as diligent about getting my runs in. I need to make sure I still have my endurance, so I am going to check out the training schedule below, while running some trails and hills and hilly trails:
Week Of Mon Tue Wed Thu Fri Sat Sun Miles
Jun 25 6 0 ST 8 5/ST 14 6 39
Jul 2 6 0 0 8 5/ST 16 8 43

Sep 3 6 10 ST 5 ST 8 13.1 42.1
Sep 10 4 3 ST 4 0 50K par-tay 42

ST = Strength. I started with this plan and modified it to fit me. The plan will be very loosely followed. I will take at least one rest day a week, even though it isn’t marked as such.

Madame Race Ambassador!! Yay! You so can do that 50k!

    • kilax says:

Come do the 5K for ZOOMA… but you won’t get the schweet necklace… 10/20 is far enough away to train for a half!

  2. YAY! I’m running it, too! Did you talk to Maggie? She mentioned carpooling… Can I get in on this??

  3. Maggie says:

    WOOT WOOT BLOGGER SLEEPOVER

  4. J says:

I like the plan! Looks pretty good! Can’t wait to you hit 60 miles! I hit 54 in my marathon training and I felt so awesome!

    • kilax says:

Getting to that weekly high mileage is so exciting! I had a goal of a 60 mile week this year (hit that in April) and a 200 mile month… I need to do some math and see about that second goal! I bet you hit that, easy!

  5. Pam says:

60 miles… DAYUM. I’m scared of just half of that number.

  6. Gingerfoxxx says:

you can totally do the 50k!! does it normally sell out early?

  7. Melissa says:

Looks like a great plan for the 50K! I applied for an invite last week and still haven’t heard anything 🙁

  8. Xaarlin says:

Whoo hoo! Congrats ms ambassador 🙂

I was thinking about running this race but it conflicts with the lakefront 50k that I plan on running 🙁

That 50k in September looks awesome. You’re going to do amazing!

  9. Erin says:

I really hope you can do the 50K because it would be awesome to see you do that! Or maybe I’m just living vicariously through you right now.

I really REALLY want to do a half marathon this fall. I suppose I should try running longer distances and see how my hip holds out.

It is cool that Zooma gives out necklaces to half race finishers. There is a Zooma relatively close to me but it’s in June and is usually pretty hot that weekend. October sounds way nicer.
I signed up for the Mizuno shoes when you blogged about it last week but haven’t heard anything yet. 🙁 I would love to get some sweet shoes to try out!

  11. Anne says:

50k? Wow, that’s CRAZY. I didn’t even know there were races out there that long! If you for whatever reason decide not to do the 50k, I’m putting together a team for the Chicago Lung Run on the same day. It’s only a 5/10k, so definitely not the challenge of a 50k.

The run in Lake Geneva sounds cool too! It’s such a cute town, I imagine running around it would be fun! What does being an ambassador entail? Sorry if you’ve already posted about that and I missed it.

I signed up with Mizuno too – I want my free shoes!

Thanks for the heads up about the 5K/10K! I love that you are doing a team. How does that work?

As an ambassador, I help promote the race and just encourage people to get out there and run. That’s it! 🙂 (Speaking of that, I had a reminder in my calendar this week to ask you about a run but with next week being the holiday… yeah)

Ooo! Which shoes do you have your eye on?

  12. Emily says:

Have you had a chance yet to test out your new Mizuno trail shoes!?!?!?!?

That race in Lake Geneva sounds awesome. It’s such a beautiful area! And I love when you get unique things like necklaces for running the race!!! (I’ve got more t-shirts than I can count!)

    • kilax says:

Only to hike! I was going to take them on my 8-miler yesterday but I think I should try them for a shorter run 🙂

Are you going to do that half?!?!?! 🙂
