What’s next…

… in running.

For some reason, I wasn’t expecting there to be photographers at the 50K on Saturday. But there were!

I love the photos they took. You can probably tell that is a sincere smile on my face – I was having that much fun… because I was running with Rachel and Kovas!

Rachel and I are already talking about our next 50K! I would love to try another one and see if I can train better and run a bit faster. Maybe next year?

Until then, I only have a few races in sight for the end of 2012:

The World’s Largest Corn Maze Run (10/14) – I’ve run this “5K” the previous two years (2011, 2010) with my brother-in-law, and we plan to do it again this year. It’s goofy and fun.

ZOOMA Great Lakes Half Marathon (10/20) – This will be my first time running the ZOOMA Great Lakes Half, and as an ambassador! I cannot wait. A lot of blogger friends are doing it, and we plan to hang out all weekend. If you are still thinking about signing up (do it, do it!!!) you can use code GLAMB8 for $10 off the half and $5 off the full. Or maybe you can convince your best running friend to nominate you for a free entry here!

Run Walk and Roll for a Drug Free Community 5K (10/27) – I’ve run this 5K in Waterloo, IA the last two years (2011, 2010) with my brother. If we go back to Iowa that weekend, I will definitely be running it.

I’m also looking at a few short trail races and a 5K around Thanksgiving (to run with Gina!), but that’s it for the rest of the year, for me!

What races are left on your calendar?

Even though I don’t have much racing going on, I plan to continue to run as much as possible, because I love love love running in the fall!

So excited for ZOOMA! I am tossing the idea around of running the Monster Dash the next day. Mostly because I WANT the jacket. But I probably won’t because that would mean I wouldn’t be able to stay with you all Saturday night.

Hmmmm…maybe I’ll do the corn maze this year…

    • kilax says:

Don’t do it. You’ll miss out on all the fun. FOMO for real.

COME DO THE CORN MAZE THOUGH! Maybe even some of the kiddos would want to walk it?

They give out a cool long sleeved cotton tee at the corn maze race 🙂

  2. Great photos from the 50K! It looks like an amazing race! And I soooo want to do that Corn Maze 5K! The maze looks like its smooth for footing, is that correct? Most corn mazes I do are a bit rough for walking and wouldn’t be good at all for running. And of course, that’s the day after the State Cross Country meet for the middle school kids so I won’t know what our schedule looks like for that weekend until after sectionals (10/6).

    • kilax says:

Unfortunately, the race does not have super smooth footing, and there are lots of corn husks all over that invite tripping and falling. But it is still a lot of fun 🙂

Great photos!! I think all I have on the calendar is The Dash in Nov and whatever we find during Thanksgiving. Hopefully everyone stays healthy!

  4. You look so great in those pictures!!

  5. Erin says:

The photos turned out great. You can definitely tell you are having fun. And, of course, the forest makes a great backdrop.

I think the only thing I have left for the year is the ZOOMA race. Unless we do the Santa Shuffle 🙂

    • kilax says:

I love the Santa Shuffle! Do you want to do the suburbs one this year? There is one in the city too. I was kind of leaving that weekend open for a potential five year anni trip, but I don’t think it’s actually going to happen 😉

  6. Cary says:

I feel so lost with my race schedule slowing down, but I am still trying to do a race a month for the rest of the year. So far I have the Monster Dash in October, and the Santa Hustle in December. Still trying to decide on my November race. I’m leaning toward the Navy Pier 10k/10mile which I really liked last year, and trying really hard to resist the Hot Chocolate (which I really did NOT like last year).

Do you have any suggestions for a great November race?

    • kilax says:

There is a fun trail 10K in Lake Geneva the Saturday before Thanksgiving! It’s hilly and difficult. Sometimes there is a free (canned food donation) 5K on Thanksgiving out here in the burbs. I am trying a trail 5.1 mile race near ORD the Saturday before Thanksgiving this year!

  7. Pete B says:

Nice photos of the 50k. At the finish, you guys look so fresh, it looks like you could have run another 50k! 🙂 I have nothing planned after the marathon, maybe a “turkey trot” 5k/10k in November. If I can keep my marathon fitness without getting injured, I may try training the for a 5k p.r. at the turkey trot.

  8. Emily says:

You and Erin are my BRFs. Can I convince you to nominate me for the ZOOMA race entry, please?!?!

After the Chicago Marathon, the only other race I have on this Year’s calendar is a Turkey Trot in Pittsburgh. I do need some time to really heal my injuries! But I have to admit that I love the level of endurance that I’ve built through marathon training and will sad to watch it eventually dissipate!

  9. gingerfoxxx says:

awwwww, i love that you are smiling in every picture! I just have Chicago and Dublin left, but strangely, that doesn’t feel like a lot!! 🙂

  10. Melie says:

my slow legs and brain have problems wrapping around 50 kilometers on trails and fun, but somehow you manage to do it. I wish I could have some of this excitement too 🙂 Plus, all these races look like a lot of racing to me for this fall.

  11. Michel says:

After the marathon I might do a 10K in Oswego that’s super cheap! http://www.oswegolandparkdistrict.org/Events/Gobbler-Hobbler.htm I would have loved to do the Bucktown 5k since I am from Bucktown but it’s hard before the marathon.

  12. Michelle says:

Way to go and love the pics. My fall races so far are the hot chocolate 15k and a the dick pond cocoa 8 miler!

  13. Meghan says:

These pics of you are GREAT! I love that you’re so happy and smiley! This gives me hope:)

    Can’t wait for ZOOMA!

  14. Your smile is so cute! I’ve been trying to get better about smiling for the cameras. They pop up out of nowhere!

  15. Losing Lindy says:

    Those pictures are great!

  16. Laura says:

Looks like a fun calendar! I wish we had a corn maze race here!!!

  17. Ian says:

My races: DPRT half followed by Monster Dash half next day (Monster still TBC), Deer Grove 32, Universal Sole Trail 5.4, Misfits Goobler trail 5k. Or none of the above LOL

  18. Ian says:

    Great photos Kimbot

  19. Amy says:

Love the pictures – you really do look so happy!!! Looks like long distances are your thing!

  20. kandi says:

    Great photos!!
I’m planning to do two trail races this fall (a 10k and an 8k). You should come and do them with me. ha!
I am also doing a 15k with my mom (my dad will be doing the 5k – his second 5k and the first he’s actually trained for… the other was back in 99) in Oct and we are all planning to run a 5k on Thanksgiving.

  21. Xaarlin says:

The corn maze 5k sounds cool! Seems like you’ve got some cool races scheduled for the rest of the year. If my ankle heals up after Chicago marathon, I’m thinking a half marathon, maybe the ohare 5k (on the runways!) and some other small 5 ks like Carrera de Los muertos. I dunno. All hinges on the crankle.

This photos from your ultra are simply fabulous!

  22. J says:

Awesome race photos! Jeez! I wish I looked that good in mine! I have a few 5k races coming up after my half this weekend.

  23. The fact that we could smile after 50K really shows what an awesome day we had!

  24. Queenie says:

I’m doing a different half marathon on October 20th – Des Plaines trail. On November 3 I am doing the Lead Rush Half Marathon in Galena. It is super small and incredibly hilly. I’m looking for a 5k or 2 to do, too. You should think about doing Lead Rush.

    • kilax says:

A few of my running club friends are doing the 50 Miler that is associated with the Des Plaines Trail half. I run there all the time – have you ever been?

That half stounds fun! I am in KC that weekend though 🙁

      • Queenie says:

I’ve never run on the Des Plaines trail, but I’ve been told by my teammates that it is similar to the Prairie Path, which I do 90% of my miles on. Will you be at the DP trail race? If so, I’ll be sure to look for you.

        • kilax says:

Unfortunately, I won’t be there. It’s the same day as the ZOOMA Great Lakes HM that I am doing. 🙁

The trail is great! All crushed limestone with barely any inclines. And SO beautiful in the fall! 🙂

  25. The Linz says:

All of those photos were amazing!! I can’t imagine looking that happy after running that far — you are amazing Kim!! 🙂
