Training Week 154

By , September 30, 2012 2:50 pm

Highlight of the Week: Fitting five runs in with such a busy schedule (and a headache that lasted three days). I feel like we are “summer” busy… we have plans weekend after weekend, which is usually only a summer occurrence for us.

Notes:

  • I love running with my Nathan Vest. I feel like it balances me out and helps me run more upright.
  • I miss real trail running. There are a few places close to me that I can run the trails, but I have to drive there (and I usually run from home).
  • On every long run this summer (and now fall) I have had a pain high in my right butt cheek. Ugh. I wonder if a massage would help?!
  • I’m scared of dogs. On my last two runs this week dogs came charging at me (unleashed) from their front yards. Luckily, they were trained to stay in the yard (and one time a person was there) but it scared me.

I ♥ Fall!

  • No/less chafing.
  • Less thirsty.
  • You can your run start later (since it doesn’t get as hot).
  • Pretty trees!

Tell me about your awesome “I ♥ Fall” runs!

The more you talk about your Nathan vest, the more I want one! Going on my Christmas list, for sure…

I ignore my right butt. It aches all the time, but never really get worse, so I stretch it out really good, but otherwise I ignore it.

Thanks for running with me Wednesday 🙂

      Yes! It rocks!

I asked Brian about it and he said it is probably chronic. What the huh? 🙁

You are welcome! Thanks for inviting me! I was happy I could make it 🙂

  2. I don’t think a massage ever hurt anyone…lol, even if it doesn’t help that pain, it will help something!

There are some houses that back up to a trail by our house and it’s always terrifying when a dog comes running my way!

I love my Nathan vest as well. I’m loving fall because I can run at pretty much any time of the day but I’m not loving the decreasing daylight! 🙂

Right on about starting runs later in the fall! I can relax and sleep a little longer knowing that it won’t get super hot after the sun rises. Sorry to hear about the butt pain. Did you take any time off after your 50k? I’ve found that the cure for most running injuries is (unfortunately) not running. 🙂 Also, people need to keep their dogs under control to a certain extent. It is not good that their dogs are terrorizing the neighborhood!

You are a rock star. And love the pics.

  6. Emily says:

I get soreness in my left butt check all the time. I spend a lot of time foam rolling it out. Basically every night I watch TV while sitting on my foam roller!

Sorry to hear about the 3-day headache and the unleashed dogs, how awful! But similar to you, I do love not having to wake up at 5:30 AM or earlier to start running since the weather is much cooler now. =D

  7. I love that I can sleep in later and fit in my long runs. I was pretty sick of seeing 5:00 AM on Sundays!

  8. Erin says:

Yay for being able to sleep in and do my runs whenever I want! That’s my favorite part of fall. The fact that it gets dark early, though, that’s for the birds.

A massage might help your pain in the butt, but I wonder if it’s something to do with your form or your hip strength.

I wonder that too. Maybe I favor that leg? I asked Brian and he thought it was chronic pain. I don’t want to hear that (it’s more of an annoyance than a pain).
