BlackStrap Neck Gaiter Giveaway

By , February 10, 2014 6:13 am

In the 2013 running season I discovered two things:

  1. I prefer a neck gaiter with a hat, instead of using a balaclava. I feel like I have more adjustability, with the two item combo, than just using the all-in-one balaclava.  Bonus – if the portion of it covering my mouth gets too damp from breathing through it, I can rotate it, instead of being stuck using that part, like with the balaclava.
  2. A neck gaiter is absolutely necessary for me for really cold runs (breathing through it warms up the air I breathe) and really windy runs (so I don’t get wind burn on my face/get as annoyed with the wind).

When people ask me for winter running tips, this is actually the one I always share – use a neck gaiter. I mean, along with “layer up everywhere else.” I think that the comfort of your face is highly important. I actually use a neck gaiter when I am walking more than a block, in the winter, too.

I was using a regular ole black Asics neck gaiter, but when I was searching for shoe gaiters for a gift this holiday season, I actually ran across these schweeeeeet neck gaiters from BlackStrap! Schweet as in, holy cow, cool designs (note: I also tried their dual layer tube which also has way schweet designs, but it feels too thick to me)!

I bought one for me (the orange one, duh) and ended up loving it so much I bought several for friends for the holidays (and another for myself, ha ha). And as I mentioned… I was waiting for one last holiday gift exchange so I could do a giveaway for one! That exchange is over (and Rachel is no longer here, sniff sniff) so time for the giveaway!

Xaarlin and hers! Now I am just missing a pic of Valerie wearing hers… get outside, Valerie (just kidding, don’t, if you don’t want to)! Updated: Valerie sent me a pic wearing hers!

That one is actually thinner that the BlackStrap ones and not meant for outdoor activities, I think, but! Can still be made useful in the winter!

I’d go with the corona blue. Seriously I need one of these and probably will buy one if I do not win it! I was hurting so badly this weekend running into the wind.

  2. bobbi says:

I like that orange one! Schweet!

  3. Kelly E says:

    LOVE #2
    Looks superhero-like 😉

  4. I love Brick… it says, “I’m a force to be reckoned with. Take me seriously, polar vortex!”

BTW as I type this, I’m looking out over the pool at my hotel in Key West 🙂

  5. Rachel says:

I don’t want to enter since I’m already so lucky to have one, but I do want to vouch for how awesome these are incase anyone doubts your review. 🙂 In fact, I could probably write a top 10 list about all the things I love about this neck gaiter.

    • kilax says:

Ha ha. I should have made it an option to get a bonus entry if you made a Top Ten list of reasons why you should have this. Ha ha ha.

  6. Michelle says:

I want the orange one pleasssssee!

  7. Heather says:

Wow, those actually look brilliant. I have either been using the balaclava I got last winter as a stocking stuffer, or a fleece headband and black scarf which is sort of similar in function to how you use the gaiter it looks but you have to tie it and untie it and stuff.

I like the corona blue one!

  8. Marcia says:

Super schweeeet gaiters! I’m a hat and gaiter girl too. I’ve actually never owned a balaclava. Mine is pretty ordinary black though. I think I’d go either corona blue or the green one would look good with my purple jacket.

  9. I’m pretty sure I’d get the one with the bear on it so I could “grr” at people.

I’ve been researching (read: googling) gaiters as I have a buff from a swag bag but it’s a promo thing, and it would violate my Pro Compression thing. Blech.

    • kilax says:

Wait, so you can’t wear certain things because you are a Pro Compression Ambassador or whatever? That is so lame!

      • I should have added that I can wear what I want but if I was sharing a photo on Instagram or FB, it’s in poor taste to wear a competing brand. I get it, for sure, but it might be interesting as year goes on. Live and learn, I guess.

        • kilax says:

Ahh, okay. So, any brand that also makes socks? I suppose that makes sense. But also… most selfies don’t include socks. I guess yours will, now? 🙂

  10. J says:

I prefer a neck gator as well. I have a plain black fleece one but if I wear my sunglasses I fog up my glasses. Its like a win/lose but its nice to have it at least for those cold runs or for snowshoeing. I would probably choose the corona blue one because the other ones are a little too bold for me 🙂

  11. Thanks for hosting the giveaway!!! I love the orange one. =D

  12. kapgar says:

I like the olive one. I currently use a buff in conjunction with a stocking hat when I run in the cold (as you saw in my Shufflin’ post). But I wouldn’t mind trying something warmer. Much warmer. It’s cold out there.

  13. Ooh, fancy! I’m a fan of the neck gaiter, too. I’m afraid of looking like I’m running because I just stole something if I go with a balaclava. 🙂 Mine’s a Smartwool one I picked up on sale last year and it works really well. Three cheers for neck gaiters, especially with the winter we’ve been having!

  14. Jess says:

I like the corona blue one! I think I’ll get released to run again on the 24th! Just in time for a few more cold weather runs in Iowa!

  15. Jennifer says:

I like the corona blue one best. I really need one of these!

  16. Matt says:

I’d choose the Corona Blue for myself. The others are a bit too wild for me.

  17. What a fun giveaway. I definitely need a neck gaiter for my 5am dog walks and early morning runs. I think I’d choose the Corona Blue, though I also like the Orange and Brick options.

  18. Xaarlin says:

I’ll be wearing mine mañana 😉

  19. Rachel says:

I totally thought Valerie was flipping you off in her picture!

  20. Erin says:

I’m glad Valerie sent you a pic because it totally makes the post! So, yeah, I definitely want to be rocking that same corona blue one.

  21. Jen says:

I love these — I’d probably go with Corona Blue. I have been using a scarf and it’s hard to keep it up on my face — I like that these have a strap to hold them in place. I actually don’t get cold anywhere but my neck and face, so I think I need one of these even if I don’t win.

  22. Jen says:

P.S. I used to have a red balaclava, and it made me feel stupid. I looked like Spiderman, and it wasn’t warm enough either. Like you said, it got damp.

  23. Meghan says:

Ahh! I recall asking you about these a few weeks ago! Such a perfect giveaway! I love the corona blue!

  24. Stacey says:

So cute! I need one, so frigging cold here in Wisconsin! I like the Corona Blue!

  25. Yvonne DeLongchamp says:

I would love any of them, but if I had to pick I would say Corona Blue! I still have to show you my “eye” one. I agree with you. I prefer a hat and a gaiter compared to a balaclava (which I lost somehow this winter anyway, so I guess it’s a moot point 🙂 ).

  26. Yvonne DeLongchamp says:

Oh, and I found a pair of sunglasses (that are made for skiing and have an extra layer of foam inside them) that don’t fog up when I wear my gaiter too.

  27. Irina says:

These are so critical for cold runs! I would probably go for the corona blue since I’m not brave enough to do anything too wild 🙂

  28. Losing Lindy says:

I like the corona blue one. I love these..we bought one for the two of us to share…could really use another.. 😉

  29. Jen2 says:

Brick!!! If you say they’re good! I believe it! Pick me! Pick me!

  30. Fran Beth says:

I like green, orange and corona blue – probably orange the most. I have a fleece one which I use often, need to expand my options!

  31. lauren says:

    I like the corona blue.
