Who’s your paparrazo/a?

I know I’ve written/asked something similar before, but I was thinking about this again, and, eh, mostly different audience now, so new answers!

At the beginning of each month, I review the pictures from the previous month and add them to the digital photo frame in my kitchen. It’s an exercise that allows me to review all of the fun stuff we’ve been up to, and feel grateful for the people and activities in our lives.

Well, I started reviewing June photos yesterday, and I was grateful for something different – my paparraza mother. I have so many fun photos from the six days I spent with my mom in June – it’s taking me a lot longer than normal to go through all of them (and Steven took a lot of fabulous photos for me to sort, too*)!

Hee hee, but it’s not me who thought to call her paparraza! Jacquie, the bridesmaid to the left in the photo above, actually said that about that photo on Facebook: “Your mom is like the paparazzi! These photos are so candid, didn’t even know she was taking them! Love it!” And another friend mentioned they were glad to have a photographer there to capture those moments.

If there was such a thing as a good paparazzo, that would be my mom – the person there documenting your normal every day life (and special events like weddings, ha ha). Gosh, saying that makes me think of a favorite quote from the movie Shall We Dance?, about people wanting a witness to their lives. But this is already sappy enough. Back to the point!

Do you have a paparrazo/a in your life (someone documenting your normal day-to-day, not necessarily someone taking candids you don’t realize are being taken, ha ha)? Do you want those moments captured?

Photos are very important to me. I spend a lot of time organizing, editing and enjoying them. I probably got this from my mom – cause when she is not there, I am taking all the pics!

  1. no, and we desperately need one. no one ever seems to have pictures of us or our family. we’re terrible at it.

I love taking pictures and documenting things. I’m just never in them because I’m always the one taking them!

Yeah, that is what happens when you are the photographer! 🙁 Get a gorilla pod and start setting those pics up on timer! 😛

I love to take photos with my fancy camera but I don’t pull it out nearly as often as I’d like. Joey isn’t huge into getting his picture taken so that’s part of it. My dad is pretty good at taking photos but then I don’t usually see most of them. He’ll send me one or two from time to time and that’s it! I’m hoping with the new baby on the way that I’ll be more interested in taking photos and convince Joey to take some as well (he took photography classes in high school but isn’t interested in it anymore). When it comes to more structured photo shoots, my BFF Lisa does really great work. She photographed our wedding even.

I love those photos above 🙂 candid photos are the best!

I’m my own paparazzo. But L fills in the blanks nicely with more candid shots.

Photos are soooooo important to me too!

CB can be your puparazzo (ha ha ha, I make me laugh)! Just get a camera on his collar and have it take photos at random times. Ha! Wouldn’t that be fun?!

      I know… let’s not even mention the incident! 🙁

    Definitely my mom!

    My friends would say me.

Some people are exhausted by how many photos I take. I learned way too young how easily they can be all you have. Too many friends have died and I treasure my photos with them more than anything.

    • kilax says:

Are they exhausted cause you ask them to pose? Or they just don’t like being in photos?

I can see why they would be so important to you. They are a wonderful token to have as a reminder of someone!!!

  6. I love taking pictures too so I guess that makes me the paparraza Candid photos are the best! What program/app do you use to edit your photos?

  7. My mom was like that. She took photos of EVERYTHING. It was annoying, to the point where we were looking for photos to make a poster for her wake, and my bf was like, “If I have to see one more photo of someone blowing out birthday candles, I’m gonna lose it.” Haha.

When I saw the title of this post, I thought you were going to talk about Steven. When we get together, I feel like he’s my paparrazzo, ha! (Props for writing -o/-a/-i, by the way! PANINI SANDWICHES! Anyway….)

My dad is my paparrazzo, but I don’t really agree with his style of photographing people. He likes to get close up to your face (like, camera held at arms-length) because he doesn’t like to include people’s feet (???) in photos. He also doesn’t like red-eye, so he fixes it with iPhoto’s red-eye reducer, which often looks really bad. I prefer red-eye to black dots over the pupils, but ehhh, agree to disagree. I’m glad he takes lots of pictures and has been for years though since I obviously couldn’t capture my own childhood and early family memories.

Steven is good at being our group paparrazzo (hee hee, and thanks – for some reason, the importance of the gender of words has stuck with me).

BUAH HA HA. Ha. Ha. That so cracks me up about him getting in your face. My mom actually takes a lot of pics that annoy me – pics of people eating, wtf!!! – but overall, I am happy she gets a lot more than I would so I am mostly grateful. Ha.

And it is SO fantastic to have those childhood pics!
