Please, no skunks

Would you believe we had another new critter* sighting at our house?

Awww.

I wonder what we’ll see next! What’s left?! Snakes? Skunks? Ugh, anything, but SKUNKS!!!

We actually need some good opossum karma, so we don’t mind if he (Ohenry**) visits to eat some bird seed.

A little “photographer photographer” action, ha! Ohenry came back for more food after I took this picture. I’m happy I didn’t scare him off.

Freddie** has been visiting the feeders, too. Still no sign of Betty**. I do hope she is off somewhere sitting on eggs!

Because it still makes me so sad to see him all alone!

I was just thinking yesterday how we haven’t seen any deer for a long time, and they appeared this morning!

And since this post is all things critters, here is a video I made of Peoples visiting last week:

Everyone is welcome to come back! Just no skunks, please!

*I confirmed the critter I reported Friday is a bird, not a bat.
**Yeah, we name the repeat visitors!

We had a baby skunk get in our garage in Boston, and it wouldn’t leave because the car sitting outside the garage scared it. We had to move the car to the side and give it enough time to leave on its own.

  2. Xaarlin says:

Ohenry! Howdy! Welcome to the squad! I hope Betty returns soon. Are you keeping a collage of all the repeat visitors with their names so you can keep track of them? 🙂

  3. Anne says:

Oh, Henry 🙂 But I don’t get it. Henry is super hawt, and possums are creepy af. At least, all the ones I used to see in the city are… Ohenry is actually kind of cute 🙂

    • kilax says:

Ha ha ha. I thought this one was cute until I got close enough to see its tail… ewwwww! I am not sure why Steven is naming everything Henry… hmmmmm.

  4. I hope Betty returns soon, too. =(

Do you know if the skunk is really a skunk, or if it’s a black cat that mysteriously got a white stripe painted on its back (like in all those Pepe le Pew cartoons)? =D

    • kilax says:

I am keeping an eye out for her!

Ha! Ha ha! If we see a skunk, and it happens to be a cat with a white stripe I would be VERY happy 🙂

  5. Jen2 says:

Where do you guys come up with these names?!!! Love all the cute critters!

  6. Shelley B says:

It’s like the Mutual of Omaha’s Wild Kingdom over there! I am sending you all of the NO SKUNK karma I can – we’ve dealt with them over the years and they are no fun.

  7. Kristina says:

Good luck with NO SKUNKS! Our dog, Gus, was sprayed by one – I’ll never forget it. I felt terrible because I slammed the door shut in his (our dog’s) face so that he wouldn’t come in. I love the Freddy! Hopefully Betty will reappear.

    • kilax says:

Aww, poor guy! What did you do to get the smell off of him?!

I hope Betty does too. I saw Freddie being a jerk to some other ducks yesterday, so maybe Betty got sick of his bs and left him. Ha!

      • Kristina says:

For the skunk smell – it took a few weeks before it was really and truly gone, but we first washed him with dish soap (ivory or whatever). I think that we then bought stuff from the pet store that didn’t help anymore.
Poor Freddie – maybe he’s having an identity crisis?

        • kilax says:

Man, that is a LOOOOONG time. Did it bug Gus at all?

Maybe Freddie is!!! I should be more sympathetic 😉

          • Kristina says:

Man, this is getting to be a long story about a skunk! So, it REALLY bothered him initially – he was actually sick. But I think that he got over it way before we did.

            • kilax says:

Ha ha, that is okay! I need to know ALL the details! Poor guy. I am happy it didn’t bug him for a super long time!

  8. amy says:

Ok, keeping my fingers crossed for no skunks for you! Boy, that possum is cute!

  9. Karen says:

awwww, we had a raccoon that came for a long time and ate on our back deck. He had a messed up little arm and I use to feel sorry for him. He figured we fed a stray kitty… our deck was a busy place for a long time. Looks like you have quite a crew as well!

  10. Mica says:

Oohhhh, that is a big possum! We used to get those in our tiny city backyard growing up; they’d get so fat from eating cat food.

That video of Peoples–I was really hoping he’d get stuck in between the slats, but alas, he was too tricky for that.

I can’t wait to “meet” all these critters. How do you decide on the names?

    • kilax says:

I wonder if I should put Data’s food out for Ohenry. Ha ha, Data would be SO mad!

Ha! If Peoples keeps eating all our seed, he may get stuck next time!

I am excited for you to meet them, too! Steven usually picks all the names based on the vibes he gets from the animals. Peoples is called that because he is “peeping” at us at night. Christina named three mallards that showed up this weekend – Frank, Walt and Gus. LOL
