I am a child

The name of my iPhone shows up when it connects to my car. I thought it would be really humorous to change the name of it, and see when Steven noticed.

Naturally, I changed it to “Kimberly’s Butt.”*

And it never showed up! My car still says “Connected to Kimberly’s iPhon.”**

What a letdown.

I left it as is, and kind of forgot about it, so there have been a couple of funny occurrences.

We were at the beach and Dad wanted to connect to my portable speaker via bluetooth. But first, Steve and Gina’s watches showed up as options on his phone. Then, “Kimberly’s Butt.” My Dad got a kick out of it. I’m glad to be making him proud, as an adult. (The speaker finally showed up when I unconnected my phone, duh.)

Then I was at the airport yesterday, using my phone as a hotspot***. A couple sat down next to me and asked “Are you Kimberly?” I told them I am, and they said “Kimberly’s Butt showed up on our phones!”

Ha! Ha ha ha! I’m not sure if it showed up as a recommended hotspot or in iPhone sharing or whatever it is called but they got a kick out of it. They were sure I wouldn’t admit to being Kimberly. Oh sure, I will. No shame!

Although I did lie and tell them I was waiting for my husband to notice it before I changed it. That’s not true. He noticed it when it was mentioned at the beach and rolled his eyes!!!

*It’s strange I didn’t use my standard “P+O-O=P”
**Ha, “iPhon” (missing the e) is what made us talk about changing it to start
***Sigh. The airport yesterday. I spent A LOT of time on my computer because I got there at 2:30 pm for a 5:30 pm flight (my meetings ended early). It was $75 to check in to an earlier flight and that isn’t an appropriate way to spend work money, so I waited for my flight, which was delayed several times and finally left three hours late, which got me home at 10:00 pm instead of 7:00 pm. I still safely got home (yay!) but I reached my breaking point of sitting in the airport with about an hour and a half left to wait. I just wanted to be home! And to NOT be exhausted today, which I now am, but whatever. At least the Louisville airport is super chill (not crowded) and it was a relaxing-as-can-be delay – I did some work, caught up on a few blogs, read, and listened to some podcasts.

I can’t tell you what most of my devices are named because usually one of my kadults has changed it while fixing something for me, but I will say that when I got my first iPhone I named it The Fancy Phone. Next iPhone was The Fancier Phone. Newest one is The Fanciest Phone, which I thought was my little inside joke until I started sharing photos at breakfast through Air Drop – we’d all be sharing and no one was accepting my requests, until I finally had to tell them that I was The Fanciest Phone. Thought about changing it but at this point, they all know it’s me…

I don’t mind hanging around in airports (yes I’m a weirdo) but when I’m ready to get home, I am just done with everything. What a long day for you!

Ha! That is hilarious! What will the next one be?! And I like that you’re keeping it. Gotta keep people on their toes, right?!

I would much rather get to an airport and hang out than be rushed, for sure, especially if it’s not crazy (so not ORD), but 5.5 hours was too long!!!!

I hate sitting in airports too. Sucks that your flight got so delayed….does it count as overtime? 🙂

    • kilax says:

No, we aren’t allowed overtime. I mean, we can request it, but it’s a big deal. So it’s just lost time. That plus the airport time Sunday night!

  3. That’s a crazy cloud you got a picture of on your flight! It’s so tall! It’s definitely a bummer that your flight got so delayed (especially a flight that probably wasn’t supposed to be that long in the first place), but I can’t say I’m surprised – we had some crazy rain yesterday afternoon! It’s still frustrating, though, especially when you just want to get home.

Back like at least 10 years ago now, I had a friend who was much quicker to adopt new technology than I was, and she had an iPod that she named…something. I don’t remember what it was, but she changed it to something more interesting than “Anna’s iPod.” Anyway, since she had an iPod long before I had an iPod (or an iAnything), that led me to believe that giving your iDevice a cool name was SUPER IMPORTANT, and I remember being very stressed about it when I got my iPod Touch hahaha! I have since stopped caring, and now stick with Bethany’s iPhone.

Oh yeah, I wasn’t surprised either! And tried to deal with it calmly, and mostly did… until the end when I started to lose my cool.

Ha! Wow! See, I have always been behind the times and didn’t even realize that until I got my first phone, and always keep the name the same too, until now! Too funny that it was such a thing you thought you had to do!!!

I think I’ve told you this, but in one of my first engineering interviews, the interviewer had looked at my project and noticed that I had code in it that made a call to “/butts” and mentioned it. I was kind of embarrassed and kind of like “meh.”

I would have laughed about this for sure!
