Self-Love Day II

By , February 13, 2009 3:30 am

I’m participating in Hilly’s Third Annual Self-Love Day! This is my second year, hence the “ii’ in the title.

The rules:
1. Post a banner on your blog and declare February 13th/14th as the day you not only love your one and only, but the day that you love yourself!
2. Post one nice thing about yourself……then ask others to post one thing that they really like about you.
3. Enjoy yourself!

It’s kind of weird to come up with a nice thing about myself, then ask you all to say something nice about me. So, if you did last year, you’re off the hook! Unless you’re family, then you have to say something! Ha.

So, I love my one and only, Mr. Steven-0, and of course, Sir Data-Lor, but I also love my family and all friends. Life is all about relationships, and having fun. I am lucky to have so many people to love.

Which brings me to what I love about me – I’m easy-going, approachable, and love to have a good time (with family and friends, as well as coworkers and other acquaintances, when appropriate). Okay, at least, that is how I see myself 90% of the time. Life’s too short to waste by being a negative, judgmental, pessimistic snob. I work hard to have an upbeat attitude. I try not to let things phase me, even though I sometimes can’t help it. The point is, I am conscious of my attitude, and realize that having a good one, as well as a positive outlook, is going to make me happier in general.

So… I like that I figured that out. And I like that it has allowed me to have a lot of fun this past year.

Yeah. Did that make any sense whatsoever?!

I can’t wait to read all of your self-love declarations! And leave my comments about what I love about YOU! It is going to take me awhile to get to them, since I am in Denver all weekend, but I’ll get there!

Oops, I just realized I used the wrong banner! I’ll have to fix that later!

6 Photo Meme

By , December 13, 2008 10:49 pm

Teeni has tagged me!

I am to find and post the 6th photo on the 6th page (folder?) of my computer and my photo/host sharing site. I don’t actually use flickr (or similar) though, I so I can only grab something off of my computer.

<image:Kim and dad at the Richard Petty Driving Experience;

The photo is of me and my father at the Richard Petty Driving Experience at the Chicagoland Speedway (I actually wrote about it on 10/20/07 at my old blog). My siblings and I gave my dad a gift card to ride three laps at full speed on a racetrack for his birthday. I think he enjoyed it. I think I would have too. I seem to be one of those adrenaline-seeking people.

Proving Normalcy

By , June 28, 2008 10:26 pm

I’ve been tagged by Diane to do the “6 things that are totally normal about me” meme (I’ll let you be the final judge of whether or not I’m really normal!):

  1. I don’t know any of my immediate neighbors.
  2. I’m overweight.
  3. I sing along to the music when I am driving the car.
  4. I love jewelry.
  5. I like to take long, hot bubble baths.
  6. I don’t follow the “wash instructions” on my clothing.

Probably shouldn’t write this here

By , April 19, 2008 11:01 am

I attended a career fair at a local college this week. No, I’m not looking for a new job – I was doing recruiting!

The college is internationally known, and has a very prestigious reputation. It draws students in from all over the world.

It was very interesting to be on the other side of the table during this career fair. It was only last year that I was interviewing as well!

The students were very aggressive in promoting themselves. I’ve already received quite a few follow up emails.

Part of one email made me laugh out loud in my office for a good twenty seconds:

If you are not hiring any internship recently, could we still keep touching?

Yes, I know what the person meant, and I don’t mean to make fun of them… but I thought I would share!

I’ve been tagged! Follow the extended post for the Fluff Five Meme from Lumpy. Continue reading 'Probably shouldn’t write this here'»

Another movie meme

By , March 20, 2008 10:11 pm

Since everyone loves the other movie meme… and since I still have nothing going on in my personal life, I decided to create a movie screenshot meme for you. This should be EASY. In fact, it is going to be SO EASY that I ask you to not answer them all if you know them all so others can guess too.

The rules are the same – post your guess for the movie title in the comments, and I’ll fill in the film once it’s been guessed! (And no cheating and all that)

1.
(American Graffiti – guessed by Robin)

2.

3.
(Pride and Prejudice – guessed by Megan)

4.
(300 – guessed by Christina)

5.
(Batman Begins – guessed by diane – I knew she would get this one!!!)

6.
(Casino Royale – guessed by kapgar)

7.
(Live Free or Die Hard – guessed by SJ)

8.
(Reno 911!: Miami – guessed by CourtneyInControl)

9.
(Transformers – guessed by kapgar)

10.
(V for Vendetta – guessed by Megan)

I apologize for making this so easy. It’s kind of a waste of time. When I thought of it, I thought I could make it harder, but I am not finding any good screenshots on the internet.

Can you tell how bored I am right now?

In terms of ten

By , March 19, 2008 8:55 pm

Borrowed from SoMi

Ten seconds ago I pulled my hair out of the ponytail I always wear it in.
Ten minutes ago Steven and I started eating freshly popped popcorn!
Ten days ago I spent the entire day in my pajamas, playing Xbox.
Ten weeks ago I was driving a Cadillac DTS to Fort Wayne for a work trip.
Ten months ago I was adjusting to my first week of work after graduation.
Ten years ago I was in the eighth grade. Wow.

:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

Ten years from now I hope to be living in Europe. Or somewhere overseas.
Ten months from now I will be recuperating from holiday partying.
Ten weeks from now I will be much healthier.
Ten days from now I will be at a friend’s open house party in Chicago.
Ten minutes from now I will be on my way upstairs to take a shower.
Ten seconds from now I will be posting this.

That movie meme everyone is doing and now I am too

By , March 18, 2008 5:52 am

Alright, everyone’s doing it, and it seems to be fun. So here goes:

* Pick 15 of your favorite movies
* Go to IMDB and find a quote from each movie
* Post them on your blog for everyone to guess
* Fill in the film title once it’s been guessed

These are your rules:
* No Googling or using IMDB search functions (Don’t cheat!)
* Leave your answer(s) in the comments

  1. “Wow, he just made the international sign of the doughnut.”
(Mars Attacks! – guessed by Dave2)
  2. “My theory on Feds is that they’re like mushrooms, feed ’em shit and keep ’em in the dark.”
(The Departed – guessed by Quinn)
  3. “But I’d like the pie heated and I don’t want the ice cream on top, I want it on the side, and I’d like strawberry instead of vanilla if you have it, if not then no ice cream just whipped cream but only if it’s real; if it’s out of the can then nothing.”
    “Not even the pie? ”
“No, I want the pie, but then not heated.”
(When Harry Met Sally – guessed by kapgar)
  4. “I love you. ”
    “I know.”
(The Empire Strikes Back – guessed by kapgar AND Return of the Jedi. Originally, I wasn’t going to give it to kapgar, because I was being tricky and using Return of the Jedi and I was still upset at myself for missing HIS Empire quote on his site. But then I got over it.)
  5. “Jesus, this is a nice limo. ”
“Yes, it is. Now suck my cock.”
(Team America World Police – guessed by E)
  6. “We need a witness to our lives. There’s a billion people on the planet… I mean, what does any one life really mean? But in a marriage, you’re promising to care about everything. The good things, the bad things, the terrible things, the mundane things… all of it, all of the time, every day. You’re saying ‘Your life will not go unnoticed because I will notice it. Your life will not go un-witnessed because I will be your witness’.”
(Shall We Dance? – guessed by Gina (Mannyed))
  7. “If you ever loved me, don’t rob me of my hate. It’s all I have.”
(The Count of Monte Cristo – guessed by Hilly)
  8. “Jeez, why do I always have to be the one to tell the kids there is no Santa Claus?”

“Oh, that’s okay. I make lamb.”

  10. “Blew it. Didn’t I? Why didn’t I concur?”
(Catch Me If You Can – guessed by suze)
  11. “Would ya just watch the hair. Ya know, I work on my hair a long time and you hit it. He hits my hair.”
(Saturday Night Fever – guessed by diane)
  12. “The only thing that you and I have in common, Mr. Creedy, is we’re both about to die.”
(V for Vendetta – guessed by Megan)
  13. “I’d like to make an offer on the house. This is what I can pay, minus the work on the place, and a rental car to drive off a cliff when this all turns out to have been a terrible mistake.”
(Under the Tuscan Sun – guessed by sizzle)
  14. “Now if you’ll excuse me, I have an after-funeral party to attend.”
    (Zoolander – guessed by SJ)
  15. “This is my family. I found it, all on my own. Is little, and broken, but still good. Yeah, still good.”
(Lilo & Stitch – guessed by Christina)

I apologize if I used any quotes that have already been used – there have just been so many!

Quirky x6

By , February 24, 2008 8:40 am

Diane tagged me for the quirky meme! The rules are to share six non-important things / habits / quirks about yourself.

But I am having a hard time coming up with six quirky things about myself that I haven’t already shared with you! (Or aren’t on my 100 Things list). Well, here goes anyway… Play along if you want.

  1. I walk a specific path to work each morning to avoid one annoying homeless man. He yells at everyone who walks by… and I just can’t take it that early in the morning. Especially on Mondays.
  2. I don’t like mushrooms. Now, that wouldn’t be so quirky, if I wasn’t a vegetarian. But some people assume if you’re a vegetarian, you love mushrooms. And I thank those people for being so considerate of my diet, but mushrooms are not on my list of things I want to eat on purpose.
  3. Even though I love ALL animals… big dogs really scare me. I try not to tense up when I am around them, but their power and size intimidates me. I need a friend with a big dog to help me get over this fear!
  4. I could eat homemade popcorn all day, every day. Steven makes the best homemade popcorn – right in a kettle on the stove. I actually missed it when we were in Aruba for a week. If I don’t have it every few days, I go a bit nuts. (The only bad part? The kernels stuck in your teeth!)
  5. I love getting my teeth cleaned at the dentist. I like it when they do that little scrape-y thing. Feels so good.
  6. I don’t mind driving 60 miles to meet friends for a date. That’s just part of living in this suburban sprawl.

Self-Love Day

By , February 14, 2008 5:37 am

Damn. I told Hilly I would participate in self love day, and now that I’m not feeling much self love, I don’t really feel like participating. Oops. Oh well.

Here are the rules:

1. Post one a banner on your blog and declare February 14th as the day you not only love your one and only, but the day that you love yourself!
2. Post one nice thing about yourself……then ask others to post one thing that they really like about you.
3. Enjoy yourself!

So obviously, I love Obi-Wan Kenobi Steven, Data, my family and friends…

I have a hard time coming up with one nice thing to say about myself because working has made me stressed out… and turned me into a less nicer version of myself at some times.

But here’s one nice thing – I’m thoughtful. I try to do little things to brighten people’s day – write them notes/emails, but special little gifts, give them a call, pick up their favorite treat for them, bring them some shiny kitty stickers, ask how things are going in their life… I try not to be so involved in my own life that I don’t take the time to make other people feel good about themselves.
