Missing winter

By , March 13, 2012 4:55 am

Seeing articles about how last weekend was the last one for outdoor ice skating in Chicago bummed me out. I don’t think anyone is going to relate to this, but I kind of missed having snow and cold weather this winter. I feel like we had such a weird limbo winter… I think it has to do with my funky mood. The whole “not dealing well with things not going how you expect them to” issue.

I didn’t get to snowshoe once this “winter.”

Or ice skate.

Am I the only one who missed having a proper miserable winter?

Probably. If you answer no, that you missed it too, you need help. Like me.

Now that it’s getting so warm, it’s making me worry about summer’s fast approach. And running in the heat. And wearing swimsuits. Ahh!!!

Since it’s likely no one will relate to that babble, maybe you can relate to this (frustration). I arrived in NYC last night and was checking my work email, when I saw one that said I had to wear pants tomorrow. I could not get on the building site with a skirt. Guess who only brought a skirt? Guess who thought about packing pants and didn’t? Guess who is borrowing a pair of pants from Gina?! Thanks for saving my butt, Gina!

wow, I am surprised you can’t wear a skirt, unless the site is under construction?

And I am not missing winter, but I am nervous if it will be a really hot summer.

    • kilax says:

Yeah, it’s a construction site. I thought about packing pants for this specific scenario but ran out of space in my carry-on!

  2. Erin says:

The only thing I miss about this winter is that I feel like I didn’t take advantage of the decent temperatures! Stupid injury.

And, yeah, I would be irritated that important information like dress code wouldn’t have been communicated MUCH earlier. When I was in college and we went to visit prisons (criminology minor) they told us weeks in advance not to wear jeans!

  3. abbi says:

Nope, can’t relate to you here. I absolutely loved that we had a mild winter!!

  4. j says:

Yeah I missed winter too – no downhill skiing, no snowshoeing. It was such a bummer. WE hardly got any snow – it made running easy though.

  5. Spring time! Running in shorts, and maybe some beach-y time? 🙂 I do miss winter too, but am happy for longer days and sunnier rays to come our way 🙂

  6. Stephany says:

I spent Christmas Eve on the beach and happily loved our mild winter. 🙂 I mean, I am the girl who starts hating life when the temp drops to 50 degrees so can’t exactly relate to you here! Hehe.

  7. I did miss this winter. I thought I was the only one so I mostly kept this comment to myself. Haha! Glad to know I’m not the only crazy!

  8. bobbi says:

While I didn’t miss the bitter cold, I DID miss the snow. And so did the kids. That said, spring is making me happy right now. But in 10 more degrees I’ll be bitching about it!

  9. gina says:

Yeah, totally agree with Erin. That should have been something communicated much much earlier, but fashion crisis aborted! I hope the pants don’t fall off your butt! : )

  10. Marcia says:

No I totally get this and miss winter too. Zip on outdoor ice skating (except in NYC) for us. I feel like we just had summer. I love me a good blizzard and some snow days. It sort of defines us as Chicagoans I think. That said I’m digging some spring-like weather too!

  11. Anne says:

I wouldn’t say I’m missing winter, but I feel like we didn’t really “earn” spring. That said, I’m LOVING this weather! Also, since I tend to be a glass-half-full type about Chicago weather, I’m not ruling out a late March or April snow storm.

  12. Amy says:

Missing winter? No! I am glad spring is starting!
And why would you not be allowed to wear a skirt?

    • kilax says:

Was visiting a construction site – so no skirt. Makes sense. Would have liked that info in advance though!

  13. Michel says:

Hell no I did not miss winter! LoL. My kids probably did but not me. My dad but a snowblower so big you would think we lived in Minnesota and didn’t use it but once!

  14. I missed Winter! I really wanted to power through Winter and run even when it snowed. This Winter gave me no challenge which caused my motivation to lack. Not cool Winter!

  15. Christina says:

I miss having our fireplace on this winter, there is nothing like the fire and a nice hot chocolate as snow falls outside.

  16. Kate says:

Definitely did NOT miss winter 🙂 I am not made for Chicago winter! Weird that you have to wear pants?

  17. RunningLaur says:

I was kind of upset that it was such a mild / warm winter, because it makes me worry that next winter will be much harsher – when I’m going to be surrounded by winter. Eek!

    Have fun on site!!

  18. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – your love of winter astounds me. 😉 I am soooooo glad it was a mild winter and am loving this spring-like weather we are having. I will say that I do wish I was more tolerable of the cold. I aspire to be an outside runner year-round like you are but I’m still too big of wimp!

  19. Jen says:

We can go ice-skating if you want! I’ll go with you!

  20. Alice says:

i totally missed winter as well!! it bummed me out that we never had a single true snowstorm here, and it makes me really nervous for the rest of this year, weather-wise… like, clearly something is off-balance, and i’m waiting for the other shoe to drop now.

  21. martymankins says:

I wanted a nice weekend stow storm to go sledding on my favorite hill just down the road from my house (so I could film it, of course)

It’s been a very mild winter here. Now that it’s mid-March, I want spring to just start so summer can get here.

  22. I have lived in Chicago for 16 years and have missed spring every single year, because, quite frankly, Chicago doesn’t have proper spring. If the spring-like weather we’re experiencing means we miss out on winter this year, I’ll take it (even though I also love the snow)!

  23. Kayla says:

I agree with bobbi! I didn’t miss the super cold, but I did miss the snow a little bit(except I didn’t miss shoveling it). I kind of understand your position on that 🙂 However, I can’t lie..I am absolutely loving this weather! That sucks that they never told you no pants!! At least Gina was able to help you out!! 🙂

  24. The Linz says:

I can sort of relate to you missing a miserable winter. When I flew back home for x-mas I was dying for some snow. It was cold, but no snow until after I flew back to GA. Since I got a little taste of the Idaho winter, I was desperately hoping for some freak snow storm here in GA. Though that didn’t happen, and now it’s already hitting in the 80’s here. It’s going to be a long hot summer!!!

  25. Etta says:

It didn’t feel like winter even happened this year 🙁
