Aunt Nommy in NYC

By , February 19, 2013 7:27 am

I love that Gina and Steve call us Aunt Kim and Uncle Steven around Luca. It makes me feel much more like a family member… or real aunt! Do your friends call you “aunt” or “uncle” around their kids, even if you aren’t really a blood relative?

Awhile ago, Gina started calling Steven Uncle “Slow Ass,”* because, well… Steven is not in any hurry. We’ll just leave that at that. Ha ha.

So, I wanted a special name too! What did they come up with for me?! Aunt Nommy. As in, Aunt Nom Nom Nom GIVE ME ALL THE FOODZ!!!

How appropriate! I do tend to eat like a little piglet in NYC, because I LOVE the food here – and I am not much of a foodie (as in, I like to eat, but I don’t seek out special cuisine or pay much attention to food trends).

So in true Aunt Nommy fashion, here are some food porn pics from our trip this weekend! All photos were taken with Steven’s fancy schmancy camera… not my smart phone, ha ha!

I wanted to get one for Steve (Gina’s husband) for Christmas and never found one! So I got this one for him at the Hershey’s store in Times Square 🙂

  2. Anne says:

OMG peanut butter cup! I wouldn’t have split that 4 ways, or at all.

No kids call me aunt, and I always thought “Aunt Anne” would sound a little silly, and mall-pretzel-store-like. Though one friend’s super adorbs kids call us Miss Anne and Mr. Bob, which I think is pretty cute.

  3. Heather says:

My best friend is my daughter’s “Auntie April” – we’re so close it totally fits 🙂 When she lists her family, she lists her “Auntie” too and my friend actually refers to her as her niece too.

And omg. Now I’m hungry and I just ate breakfast. THANKS! ;D

  4. And now I will be getting a bagel for breakfast.

  5. Kandi says:

    I want that falafel!!!
I don’t think any of my friend’s kids call me Aunt but not many of my closest friends have kids yet. I imagine they will when they do. I have intentions of calling a few close friends ‘Aunt’ when I have kids. I mean, I already call my friend Lisa an Aunt when referring to her relationship with my puppies. 🙂

  6. Erica says:

We are aunt Erica and Uncle Neal to many children who are not related by blood. I think it’s because we buy great presents and love to play!

I miss NYC food! March 15 can’t come fast enough!

  7. oh my gooodness, the sweeetss!!
love they call you aunt! None of my close friends have kids yet, but I’d love it if they did and said that about me!

  8. Rachel says:

All that food looks great, especially the pizza! Yum!

Kim’s kids call me Auntie Rachie. It used to just be ‘Achie’ when they couldn’t talk very well. Sooooo cute. Even cuter – they used to call Kevin “Uncle F*%king” when they were little because his name was so hard to pronounce. haha. They have it right now though. 🙂

  9. Christina says:

Mmmm giant reeses peanut butter cup! That is so cute that your nephew calls you aunt nomy. My half brother calls me Tina! I love little kids! 🙂

  10. Beth says:

Oh my gosh, all of that food looks fantastic! Now I’m really hungry. 🙂 I don’t have any family friends that I know as “aunt” or “uncle,” but my fiance definitely does, and as an only child, I think I’ll probably be Auntie Beth to some of my good friends’ kids.

  11. Yup! I have been an Auntie Michel for over 22 years! lol Cute name!

  12. Valerie says:

OH my goodness…I’m salivating at my computer screen…at work. AWKWARD!

  13. Erin says:

That is really sweet of them to bring you into their family like that 🙂 My own nieces and nephews just call us Erin and Jason! And we don’t have any friends with kids that we’re particularly close to.

And now I want a bagel.

  14. J says:

I called most of my mom and dads good friends, Aunt and uncle even though they weren’t related to me. Since my bff is having a baby, I hope her child calls me Aunt Joanna or maybe Aunt Jojo since thats what all my nephews seem to call me.

I should not have looked at this post right before lunch. Now I don’t know if I will make it to noon!

  15. Everything looks so good, now I’m getting hungry :P.

  16. gingerfoxxx says:

yummmmm! pizza is my favorite thing ever – i can’t believe i have lived this long without having a new york slice!

  17. Maggie says:

Those noms look amazing! I have some close friends who have referred to me as “Aunt Maggie” but then I feel bad because those kids do have actual aunts, and as an actual aunt myself, I know being an aunt is special. Not that I would ever get upset if my sisters-in-law referred to a friend as an aunt to their kids. Now I miss my nieces and nephews … off to go stare at pictures of them on Facebook …

    =^..^=

P.S. That’s a cute pic of you and Luca on the slide!!

  20. Emily says:

Killer pictures – especially of the pizza and the doughnuts!!! Why are all carbs so tasty? YUMMY YUMMY YUMMY!!!

In Chinese culture, pretty much EVERYONE older than you is an “auntie” or an “uncle.” So I am very used to calling people that and being called an auntie. 😉

  21. Pete B says:

Love the NY style pizza. I would go back there just for it!

  22. robyn says:

I LOVE all that food, and with all the exercise you do you can eat it! We used to call adults auntie or uncle when I was a kid but it seems that the kids that I know don’t.

  23. I don’t have close friends w/ kids yet, but I definitely had a few “aunts” growing up.

And I love the food pics! Especially the bagels!

  24. Ahhh so much good food! Once again I can’t even begin to express my extreme jealousy of your recent NYC adventures. I NEED to go back there as soon as possible! And honestly, I’m pretty sure it’s the food I’m most looking forward to…I wanna eat my way through the city 🙂

  25. Mica says:

You can be my Aunt Nommy any time! Everything looks amazing!!! This makes me want a NY bagel sooooooo much right now.

  26. martymankins says:

All of that food looks so good. And let me guess, it’s all vegan… very well made… so much, that I’m tempted to try those dishes.
