Friday Question 256

By , July 25, 2014 7:05 am

Do you use certain text or ring tones for specific people? Who gets their own? Or do you just use the default on your phone?

I recently wiped my phone clean to start fresh with a new OS, and before I did, I took note of all the special ring and text tones I use, so I could set them up again. For whatever reason (my innate anxiety?) I feel better if I know who is calling or texting, when I hear my phone doing something. When I hear the default noise, I am all “WHO IS THAT AND WHAT DO THEY WANT?”

Just me? Ha ha.

Of course, I keep my phone on silent most of the time anyway. But on the off chance I don’t have silence turned on…

And… TwoThree other random things!

  1. This is a week of two anniversaries for me! July 21 was my blogiversary, and today is the anniversary of when I got my ACE personal trainer certification! Woo hoo! I have my continuing education already done (for the two year period) and have my eye on another certification.
  2. My mom called me this morning, very excited, because she saw Lance Armstrong’s support RV in our hometown. He must be doing RAGBRAI this year?
  3. And as an update to the last Friday question… Steven and his family gifted me a GoPro as an early birthday gift! I can’t wait to use it during RAGBRAI!

Congrats on all of your anniversaries! 🙂

I don’t have special ring tones or alerts, but my husband used to have one for me that was a voice saying “Blah blah blah”. He thought it was hilarious…

I have a special ringtone for L, but that’s it. And I have my phone on vibrate 99.99999997% of the time so yeah- doesn’t matter much 🙂

Happy personal trainer anniversary!! What’s the next certification you’re considering?

Yes! Lance was in town last week for Ragbrai… I um, follow him on twitter 🙂

Yay for the go pro! Now you can take all the cool videos to document the ragbrai 🙂 can’t wait to see it. Looks like a fun event!!

I had to even turn off the vibrate for texts cause I was looking at my phone WAY too much. That’s helped me cut back. But I still have texts/emails pop up on the lock screen. Sigh.

A kickboxing certification! Gotta find the right one 🙂

Think I will see Lance? Maybe he’ll talk to me since my bike is Livestrong colors 😉

YES! I am super stoked! I downloaded an app to control it from my phone 🙂

  3. Happy certification-iversary! If I lived closer, I would totally hire you to be my personal trainer. 🙂 Your GoPro looks awesome–what a great gift! Looking forward to watching some fun videos. (You *will* be posting some here, right? :))

    • kilax says:

Thanks! I do live so darned far away from most people 🙂

Yeah! I will post some vids if they are decent. I am hoping for cool pics, too!

  4. ChezJulie says:

No special ring tones for particular people. I just put a jamming song on as my ringtone.

    What is a GoPro?

    • kilax says:

A GoPro is a camera (takes stills and video) that is light, compact, rugged, and mountable, so you can use it for action photography – biking, skiing, surfing, running, motor cycling, etc. 🙂

  5. ChezJulie says:

Can they be mounted on cats?

  6. bobbi says:

    Happy ALL THE ANNIVERSARIES!!

SO happy for you!! Just today I asked Steven what he was getting you for your bday, and I SQUEALED when he told me!

  7. Kristina says:

Have fun this weekend – with the ride and with the GoPro!

  8. jan says:

What a fun gift!! I can’t wait to see your videos! And as for the ring tones, only my hubby has his own. I’m too lazy to do the rest! Have a GREAT time on RAGBRAI!

  9. Kandi says:

I used to have specific ringtones for a few people but don’t currently. In fact, earlier this week the external speaker on my phone stopped working and I wasn’t hearing anything at all! Luckily my phone was still functional and the vibration still worked. I took it to Best Buy (where I bought the phone) and the guy was baffled. He did a reset on my phone and everything but he couldn’t get it to work. He suggested mailing it back to Samsung to have them fix or replace it but I told him I NEEDED my phone because I’m having a baby any day now. Then, about 48 hours after it stopped making sound, it started again! No idea why it stopped or started! So crazy. So all my default sounds were back. I at least changed the text and call sounds but everyone gets the same sound for now.

    that is so awesome!

  11. I am too lazy to designate ringtones to specific people. Anyone can call me and I may or may not answer. 🙂

  12. Di says:

I have a special ring for my brother and one for my dad, but that’s it. I don’t know why I never bothered to set them up for anyone else.

  13. Happy certification anniversary! I am so jealous that you have your continuing ed done! I am about a third of the way through but I am hoping to get a chunk done this fall. I’m excited you are looking at other certs!

    • kilax says:

Thanks! I ended up doing it online, which made it really easy. Are you still planning to attend some in-person training? I am hoping to do some this year or next.

I have about 12 different ringtones for various people, all self created from songs that I like or that associate with others (29 second parts of the song), or that others like. For my wife, she’s “Dancing In The Dark” (her choice), my step daughter gets ‘Sweet Child O’ Mine” my friend Molly is a big Pixies fan so she has assigned to her “Where is my Mind”

I change my default ringtone for any calls not already assigned a ringtone every couple of weeks. “White Wedding” “Enjoy The Silence” “Billie Jean” “Blue Monday” – I try to add new ringtones every few months, just to mix things up.
