Celebrate good times, come on!

This weekend was all about birthday celebrations. Yay!

FRIDAY!

Friday was awesome from the start because:

  • I had the day off work and could take a nap in the morning (I had a cold and haven’t been sleeping well… I say that like I wouldn’t have taken a nap anyway, ha!)
  • I found out I won a $10 Starbucks gift card from Shelley!
  • My Shitterfly magnet order came!
  • I registered for Grandma’s Marathon in June in Duluth, MN!

In the evening, we met up with Jen and Troy for a late celebration of Jen’s April birthday. We ate at a local Thai place with delicious food that actually gives you appropriately sized portions. Everyone commented on how it was the right amount of food, and that they totally would have eaten more (because it was so good!), but were glad we weren’t given more so we could get movie theater treats later. (Don’t worry, I am not turning in to someone who complains about receiving “too much food”! I am all about the leftovers! I guess I appreciate a normal sized portion when I am giving an eff about what I eat?!)

Pad See Eiw is always my go-to Thai order!

After dinner we headed to the theater to see Deadpool 2!

My gosh, I laughed throughout the entire movie. Only a few jokes fell flat on me, and I was proud I understood 99% of the joke references (ha). I had so much fun, I would see it again in the theater (on $5 movie night Tuesday, of course). It reminded me of how much fun I had at Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle. COMPLETELY different movies, but it’s a blast to laugh so much. Yay!

We went to a 9:50 pm showing (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) so that was a late night. I was in bed after 1:00 am, up for an hour from 4:00-5:00, and out of bed just before 6:00 am, because, (I had a) cold. Sigh.

SATURDAY!

I started Saturday off with a short run and ride, then taught fitness boxing and dropped off my bike for a tune-up (I like to get one every spring before I spend more time on it outside).

We had a small lunch then were off to my favorite coworker’s son’s first birthday party in the city!

I hit my raw “I didn’t get enough sleep” breaking point on the drive but rallied through and was able to be social at the party. Phew.

The decorations were ADORABLE (homemade, of course) and my coworker had special vegan food for me, including a piece of vegan cake OH EM GEE YASSSSSSSSSSSSSSS.

When we got home, I read and took the short nap I needed so I could make it through the evening.

We watched Mad Men with dinner, which we just started this week, and I am seeing for the first time! We tried to use a free FandangoNOW rental code to watch Black Panther, but it wouldn’t work since it’s linked to my email, and the Roku is linked to Steven’s. Sigh. If you know how to fix that, let me know (I couldn’t figure it out with my internets search).

SUNDAY!

Sunday morning was productive AF. I woke up naturally at 5:00 am (after getting seven hours of sleep!), was done running by 8:00, and did errands from 9:00 – 11:00. I found almost everything I needed and didn’t have to wait in line anywhere to check out. WINNING! (I think it helped that it was early, and raining).

When I got home, I prepped the produce for the week, then we ate lunch and watched more Mad Men and generally had a lazy afternoon with a few chores (like programming my car), but mostly relaxing! Yay! (We had planned to do yard work but it was raining… and 40° out.)

I finished reading Scott Jurek’s new book, North, which made me want to reread his first book. I loved that this new book (about his 2015 attempt to get the fastest known time hiking the Appalachian Trail) included both his and his wife’s perspective. His wife, Jenny, was in charge of crewing for this over forty day event and it was interesting to see things from her perspective.

We watched the Netflix movie Anon with dinner (we were gonna watch Cargo but I was worried that might be too gory to watch while eating!). Meh. Oh Netflix and all your bad Netflix original films. We love watching movies (as you may have picked up on, ha!) and we’ve given a lot of Netflix ones a chance, but they’re mostly meh! (Anyone else watch The Titan?)

But anyway. Yay for a quiet Sunday! One more weekend left in May which BLOWS MY MIND. I don’t feel like summer is around the corner!

I love Pad See Ew too! Sounds like a great weekend 🙂 I’ve enjoyed a lot of the Netflix tv shows but I don’t think I’ve tried any of their original movies.

  2. That’s exciting that you’re running Grandma’s! It’s been on my radar, but I don’t know if I’ll ever have the confidence to run a marathon in June, even if it is in Minnesota. I would much, much rather train through a miserable summer for a fall marathon than train through winter/spring for s spring/summer marathon – I’m too much of a wuss when it comes to running races in the heat!

I’m planning to see Deadpool 2 later this week and I’m really looking forward to it! I liked Deapool a LOT more than I anticipated, so I’m excited to see the sequel!

Thanks! Yeah, we’ll see how the heat is! It’s not supposed to be warmer than mid 60s in Duluth in June, and both of my marathon PRs are surprisingly from those temps (on overcast days!) but we all know long forecasts mean NOTHING! If it’s hot AF it will become a fun run for sure!!!

I had so much fun (obviously, ha). I hope you do too!!!

I watched Cargo last night…not too gory but a bit depressing!!

Pad see ew is my go to for Thai as well but occasionally I’ll branch out and get massaman curry or pad thai. Thai food in LA has surprisingly not been as good as in Columbia (weird!!).

The view from your window looks so peaceful!!!

I’d never even heard of the first Deadpool and now it seems to be a cult thing…I need to catch up on my pop culture.

I can’t believe its the end of May either. I have a wedding next weekend, then the weekend after martina is at another conference, then my class final and a marathon (half by myself and then a HM) in the same week, then i go home…arhhhhh where is time going!!

    • kilax says:

Okay! I can handle that! Maybe we’ll watch some tonight.

I have not tried that curry! What is it like? That IS weird that the Columbia Thai was better. I feel like it’s hard to find a good Thai place though!

Thanks! It’s so peaceful where we live (except for this dog that showed up just this week and barks a lot).

Oh wow! But you know what, I had never heard of his character until I saw a preview for the first one. Not sure why we saw that one in the theater, but we enjoyed it too!

Your June is going to FLYYYYYY by!!!!!!!!!!!! Fun stuff though!

I’m glad I was part of your good Friday! We almost went and saw Deadpool this weekend, but then we opted for lazing around. It takes effort to go out! That is a cute birthday party theme.

Grandma’s! I hear that is a fun one. Plus, you get to start according to how you should finish, right? So if I were to run it (HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHA), I’d get to start way before the elites?

    • kilax says:

      Me too!!! Thank you!

Ha, I would have liked to laze about at that time of night too 😉 It IS an effort! Let me know what you think if you do see it!

It’s a regular corraled start line, however, the half marathoners start over an hourly early – halfway up the course, so they’re off it by the time we come by!

Ooh, I hadn’t heard of “Cargo.” I’ll add it to my queue. Though like you said, I’ve realized that I haven’t been that into all the Netflix originals for some reason or another. Maybe because they’re made for binge-watching, or maybe I just…don’t like them.

Pad-see-ew is my go-to Thai dish too. I love how soft the noodles are!

I’m glad you enjoyed DP2, especially since you were out so late for it. Getting home after midnight feels crazy late now, right?

    • kilax says:

I feel like they’re… lazy? Or hastily put together? Like I am supposed to like them cause they have real actors and a big budget? But the writing and story is still crap? Idk. As someone pointed out, I have liked some of the series! So there’s that!

YES. OMG. This place has a dish that deep fries those noodles. Yes, I got it last time. Ha.

It does feel so late! And here I thought my body would let me sleep in. Ha ha ha. NOPE.

  6. Stephany says:

OMG, a 9:50PM showing for a movie. #hero I think I complain about anything past 8pm because I’m apparently 75 years old. Kudos for hanging in there!

I can’t get over how cute those decorations were at your coworker’s kid’s birthday party! Ahhh. Adorable! And so sweet for her to have some vegan cake for you to enjoy!

    • kilax says:

Thanks! It wrecked me the next day and I don’t want to do it ever again!

Right? She had a ton of other paper animals and other stuff too! She’s a sweetie!
