Random Thoughts Thursday 74

  • I’m still knitting! I haven’t dedicated time to learning any new skills, so I’m still just knitting lots of washcloths for my mom and her mom. However, Mica sent me some DPNs (double pointed needles), I still want to make those cacti for my snister, and I just received these fun knitting books! So I have some ideas for what I want to try when I get around to it. And I want to start holiday gifts soon. Keeping them secret while I work on them is going to be hard for me, ha ha!

  • Have you ever had to take one of those personality tests for work? The one where they tell you your strength and weaknesses in areas like leadership, influencing others, working in a team, etc.? I always score low in the area of influencing others/selling ideas, because I HIGHLY DISLIKE TRYING TO INFLUENCE OTHER PEOPLE. Especially when I don’t have the authority to do so. I don’t want to be a sales person, period. I am more of a “live and let live” person – in all areas of life. (Ha, that doesn’t mean I don’t often wonder why people do the things they do, just that I don’t want to tell them how to do things, myself.)
  • We had a beautiful lightning storm here Monday night! I could have stayed outside all night watching it, but… that’s not safe! Ha.

  • One of my goals for the year was to take a swim lesson (to see how my form is) and I have it scheduled for this month. I am excited about it, and hope that I am able to remember all the things the coach is bound to tell me are messed up with my form. No, I am not doing a triathlon. A few people have asked me lately “Why don’t you just do one?” since I run and bike, and sometimes swim. Eh, just not interested in it right meow. Maybe someday though!
  • Oh my gosh, talking with a coworker yesterday about her daughter coming back home from a three week summer trip reminded me how mean I was to my mom and sister when they picked up me and my dad from the airport on our return leg from Spain in 2002 (when I was 17 years old). I did NOT want to be coming home. And they were so excited to see us, and I think even made “welcome back” signs. And I was just like “eh, whatever.” Sigh. I still get this hurt feeling in my heart when I think about how I treated them. But… that was thirteen years ago! Ha! Hopefully they don’t ever think about it.

  1. Those pictures of the lightning are cool. how did you catch it? I definitely need a few swim lessons too, I hope it goes well!

  2. Anne says:

You’re not interested in a tri right meow? 🙂

Good luck with the swim lesson! I hope to find a local pool to start swimming again once we move because I miss swimming laps. No matter how terrible my form is, ha!

If I think about how I treated my parents when I was a teenager… and in my early 20’s… well, they still love us and forgive us (and honestly, probably understand!).

Was that the Meyers-Briggs test? I’ve taken that one so many times over the years, and I seem to get a slightly different result each time. I like taking those though! T and I took it for fun a few months ago to maybe figure out what we both want to do when we grow up. I still have no idea.

      Nope nope nope! LOL

Thanks! I will be curious to hear what pool you find if you move north! I have struggled to find anything indoors that is affordable. The GL pool has $3 lap swim M-F though 🙂

It was probably a test like that! I think it’s good to keep taking them and see how you change. LOL, WHO knows what they want to be when they grow up?!

Awesome lightning pics! Jason and I stood on our balcony watching the storm to the south of us for awhile. I love watching storms.

We take the DiSC test at work and it really helps to know other people’s DiSC profiles so it can help you communicate with them. I’ve learned a lot about how to communicate with my boss since he’s the complete opposite personality type from me.

I hope you get some good tips from your swim lesson! What I’ve found as the key is to practice it at least once a week. Remembering what to do and getting that muscle memory is hard. Although, maybe you’ll find out you’re a natural!

    • kilax says:

Thanks! I love watching them too. And hearing them.

We did that exercise at work a few years ago too, and it totally helps (if people pay attention to the results, lol)!

I hope so too! I doubt I will be a natural and I am sure it will take a lot of practice… and I only have until the outdoor pool closes at the end of August! Ha!

  4. I LOVE the yarn you used for those washcloths, especially the one on the bottom right and the one on the left! They look tie-dyed, and I think that’s so cool!

  5. Bari says:

Very cool lightning pictures! I hope your swim lesson goes well.

  6. Lesley says:

I had to take a personality test in college for a class, and then they based our project groups on those results. I hated that! I’m friends with people because I want to hang out with them. Working together is the same aspect.

  7. Good luck on the swim lesson! I so, so want to do that.

At the newspaper, we get crafting books like that on the regular. We aren’t allowed to keep items, so they are put in a charity sale at the end of the year. I buy them for my SIL because I know she wants to zombies. Obviously.

  8. Christina says:

Didn’t ever think about it …. until now.

  9. Chaitali says:

Those storm photos are amazing! Also, I love that there is a book about knitting your own cats and other animals 🙂

What Anne is moving to Lake County? What? Your blog has all of the inside info! I have been kicking around doing a tri, but I am not good with logistics – like hauling my heavy bike to the race, setting up my transition areas, dealing with flat tires mid-race, bringing and changing out a wetsuit, etc.. If only I could hire someone to do all of it so I could just show up to the race and compete!

    • kilax says:

Ha! I always know all the dirt! Actually, you find out a lot of truth in the comments people leave 🙂

That is exactly why I don’t want to do a tri. I like all the things but don’t feel like thinking about all the logistics. So lazy. 😉

  11. karen says:

Storms are fascinating to watch! You got some great shots.
I do that too, I will roll things around in my head forever when I wish I had not done something, stuff just haunts me forever it feels like.
I am SO not a sales person either. I worked retail years ago and although some thing s were fun at work, mostly I wanted to bang my head on the wall lol

  12. Pam says:

    Those lightning pics are amazing!

I wish there was a way I could forget some of the things I’ve said to others in the past. And a way to make them forget. Because if it still hurts them as much as it hurts me now remembering it (even over a decade later), I certainly don’t deserve their forgiveness.

  13. Amy says:

We probably do beat ourselves up far too much for things we said/did in the past – stuff the other person most likely doesn’t even remember.

My son’s girlfriend is going to teach me to crochet this fall!

    • kilax says:

      We totally do.

Yay! I am so excited for you! I see so many cool crocheted things. What do you think you’d like to make?

  14. Tiina says:

What great lightening pictures! And I’m sure your mom and sister don’t even think of that anymore. I definitely did the same thing when I got back from living in Europe for a summer. The transition back is hard!
