Random Thoughts Thursday 91

  • Do you have a content proof reader for your blog posts? Mine lately is my snister. I just send her the post in an email with the subject line “too whiny?” She always says no, but sometimes I never publish the post. It feels good to write it and get it out. But it doesn’t need to be shared (here).
  • After a few nights of bad sleep because we were constantly getting up to push the sump pump float down, we finally slept well last night – because we had the sump pumps fixed. Yay! Steven bought new equipment Tuesday and we were going to put it in ourselves, but there happened to be a plumber at the house yesterday working on something else – so why not have him do it? I am very happy Steven made the executive decision to pay him for the install! The plumber had all the tools and materials there and I am sure it saved us a lot of time (and maybe some frustration, ha).
  • Guess what Steven found in the sump pump yesterday? Ha. He said this guy tried to jump out!

  • The other day a friend asked me if stretching and foam rolling is how I stay injury free, with the amount of miles I run (she felt like she had an injury coming on and wanted to know what I do). The truth is, I don’t stretch or foam roll, like I should. But I do strength train three times a week and am diligent about cross training and rest days (and active recovery). AND (and I forgot to share this with her) – changing my shoes out when my legs start to feel wonky.
  • And… it’s actually time for a shoe refresh. I am currently rotating between six pairs (plus speed and trail shoes), and I think three need to go. I have four pairs on standby, and for whatever reason, Zappos sent me a $25 credit, so I just got these (below) to add to my collection. This is probably the first time in a long time I’ve had the more updated version of my shoes – I am usually in the old model for a loooong time (because it’s cheaper and I go through shoes so fast). Squeee! Exciting!

  • I have drooled over Moxie Cycling gear for a long time, but have never purchased anything. I was dreaming again, and looking at their sizing chart, and I have to say, I LOVE how they have different body shapes for their models! Awesome!
  • I am itching to hang some artwork/my jewelry holders in the house! But it’s not a priority at this time. Maybe when my snister visits? For now, having some stuff propped up on shelves will have to do!

Ha ha, you can’t tell cause I cropped it, but Data is pretty high up. Brat!!!

That’s sweet your snis proof reads your posts before publishing 🙂 my Daad reads mine after the fact and points out any typos/errors. Lol YAY the sump pump is fixed!!!!

I’m with you on the minimal foam rolling/stretching. I also do active recovery and xtraining and find I’m less injury prone than when I was stretching or foam rolling. Strange. Fresh kicks also make a huge difference!!

I really enjoy the look of the Moxie items. I don’t own any, but I appreciate the use of various body types too.

CB would like to know how Dates can get on top of tall furniture like that. #goalzzz

    • kilax says:

My Dad does that, too! And yesterday, my mom text me “Did you mean March 12 and not February 12” (re: the storage room post). Yes! Oops! I appreciate people helping with my typos!

Oh interesting that you’re feeling better sans stretching and rolling. When you were doing PT, did they recommend it?

Data doesn’t want CB to know his secret (he is ashamed) but I will tell you – he jumped from my desk 😉

  2. I’m so glad I’m not the only one. I am terrible about rolling. I stretch with my classes but rarely do it on my own. I keep saying that I’m going to do it at night while I watch TV or Mark gives the kids a bath … but mostly I drink coffee and watch “Gilmore Girls.” HA! I do think the strength training and cross training help a lot. There are 5 women with whom I run sometimes but at this point, four are injured. I think a big part is how much resistance training I do.

    • kilax says:

Yeah, stretching with class (and when I get out of bed, ha) is about all I do. I used to have a reminder in my phone to do it each night, but I just ignored it!

Wow – so you think those four only run? Strength training helps SO much. And really… more than once a week! I haven’t had a running setback since I started strength training consistently.

      • Two for sure only run and one of the others didn’t Xtrain consistently. I’ve had setbacks here and there but nothing that kept me away from the trails too long. Even when I had piriformis syndrome when I was pregnant, I was good to go in five to six weeks. It felt like an eternity but some of these gals have been out longer!

        • kilax says:

I am happy you haven’t had to sit out too long! I had to take a month off once and HATED it!!!

Did you notice what is on the shelf in the last picture? 😉

  3. Rachel says:

That cat statue is really cute! Where did you get it?

I’m so glad the sump pump is fixed! I’m sure you two could have done it, but what a relief to have it done and done quickly!

That Moxie stuff is really cute! Is there something in particular you have your eye on?

  4. Shelley B says:

I have a blog friend who I will occasionally email a preview of my posts, usually with my subject line being “too mean?” or “too snarky?” – those are my cranky posts, lol.

I’ve never heard of Moxie but their stuff is cute! Wish they made some running shirts.

    • kilax says:

Ha ha! Does she ever say “not sure about this line” or that sort of thing? I have had friends say that to me in the past, when proofing that snarky stuff, and I appreciate it!

Yeah, their shirts are cycling focused. Maybe they’ll branch out someday!

  5. Pete B says:

I don’t foam roll either! A friend of mine was stunned when I told her that I don’t foam roll. A few years back, I used to use “The Stick” on a regular basis, but once I started to strength train a couple of years ago, I pretty much never needed to use it again. If a runner feels the need to foam roll a lot, are they:
    a) Overdoing it (i.e. too much, too soon)
    b) Not adequately strengthening opposing muscle groups
    c) All of the above
    d) None of the above?

    • kilax says:

Could be any of those things and d could be bad luck or chronically tight muscles. Some people just seem more wound up! (Muscularly… and mentally? Ha!)

  6. Jen2 says:

I have a Moxie tank from a race I did last year and it ran hella small! Their stuff is always really cute though. I’m doing the same race this year and signed up early enough to get another tank AND a matching running skirt – SCORE!!!

How many miles do you usually get on your shoes? Maybe it’s time to switch mine out too. I’ve got just over 200 miles on them which seems a bit low to me, but I know I’m a heavy runner so maybe I need to switch out sooner than others.

Congrats on the sump pump! One less thing to worry about! That probably would have taken at least 3 trips to Menard’s. LOL!!

  7. I don’t have a proof reader for my posts- I’m just crazy and read them 4-5 times before posting and then once or twice after they go live to catch anything I missed. I think a habit leftover from my journalism days.

I think I definitely missed something in your back story– is there a reason you spell sister ‘snister’ in your posts? FILL ME IN.

Six pairs of shoes!? That’s crazy! I def need a new pair. Mine are super old!

    • kilax says:

You aren’t crazy! I only send the ones to her that I think need another set of eyes 🙂 (I will also send posts to friends to review if it talks about them a lot – want to get their approval). I proof read on my own too and every now and then (okay, more often, really) miss SOMETHING.

Aww, thanks for asking! Christina (my snis) and I just have a ton of made of words and our versions of words for stuff and “snister” is something we’ve been saying instead of “sister” for years. (I think she started this one?) She’s Snistina and I am Snisberly. Ha ha, weird, I know. But it makes us happy.

GET NEWS SHOES ASAPY!!! Your feet deserve it.

  8. I wonder if the age of my shoes is why my knee’s been pesky lately. They’re a year old, and while I didn’t start wearing them until marathon season (I bought two identical pairs of shoes on March 1 last year, started out with one pair, and then once marathon season started, began rotating between the two every other run), I’m sure they have at least 400 miles on them. I finally saved enough money to get two new pairs of shoes, though, so I plan to head to Fleet Feet this weekend! I’d be the happiest if that solved my knee woes. I’ve been trying to keep up with my PT exercises, be more diligent about foam rolling daily, and strength training twice a week, but so far it hasn’t made a huge difference with my knee :/ We’ll see, I guess!

    • kilax says:

Hmm, it could be! That is a lot of miles on shoes! And they are pretty old, anyway! I hope the new ones help! Fingers crossed!!!!

  9. Anne says:

I do my own proofing, since proofreading things is basically my job anyway.

I like the new shoes! They’re fun! I need a new pair of trail shoes (my knees were SORE the last time I ran in mine), so I have a few sitting in my cart while I decide which to get 🙂

    • kilax says:

I proofread for spelling and grammar (and still make mistakes) but I totally have to send things to my snis to read to make sure they don’t sound too cray. Ha!!! Or, too whiny.

Thanks! 🙂 That is fun you are deciding! Same model or something new?

      • Anne says:

That’s what I’m trying to decide! I’ve narrowed it down to current and 2 other options. And if I keep the same model, there’s a $30 price difference for colors – isn’t that ridic?!

  10. karen says:

I like that pretty pink shoe, that is softer pink color you don’t see very often.
My hubby reads mine and sends me corrections but it is usually I post it lol I do edit then even if I catch something a week later.

    • kilax says:

Yeah! They went kind of retro with these designs!

Ha ha! Steven does that sometimes for me too. And I totally think it’s okay to go back and edit that stuff! If I add content, I add a note with it “Edited to add:” 🙂
