Random Thoughts Thursday 53

  • Are you guys tracking anything new this year? I love to track silly things on spreadsheets and in my calendar. Last year I started a spreadsheet to track books read (I know, I could use Goodreads, but I prefer to keep my social media stuff to a minimum) but ended up not using it because I spent a lot of the year studying for the ACE personal trainer exam. Now I am back to reading for “fun” and loving it! So I have started tracking books again. I am even tracking how long it takes me to read them, and averaging out pages per day <— dork alert! I do have studying I need to do throughout the year, which I also enjoy, but I hope that doesn’t occupy most of what I read.

  • This past Tuesday marked five months until my snister’s wedding! Woo hoo! I am stoked!

  • I posted this picture about getting my blood pressure taken at the dentist’s office this Tuesday and a few people seemed surprised I get it taken there! Does anyone else get their blood pressure taken when the are at the dentist? I actually like going to the dentist. I love having my teeth cleaned. The only thing I don’t like about the dentist is when he makes inappropriate off-the-wall comments. I will never forget the time he came in to see me and made a comment about someone’s body size on the television that was on.

I hope that just because the time on this thing is wrong, doesn’t mean my BP is too…

  • Speaking of hanging things up, we recently put up this sign that my grandma gave me for my birthday that says “Always Kiss Me Goodnight” (I’d say it’s 50% effective, ha ha, just kidding). I also put up this neat-o jewelry box that Bobbi gave me for Christmas. It perfectly combines my love for photos… and jewelry! Hee hee.

  • Did anyone else watch the Golden Globes? We actually had friends over to watch them, which was really exciting for us. Steven and I have always been in to movies, and it’s not until the past couple of years that we’ve had friends who are as well! So we enjoy chatting our movie thoughts up with people. Anyway, I was actually going to mention a TV show. Ha! Steven and I are rarely in-tune with current TV shows, but for some reason, we decided to start watching Brooklyn Nine-Nine (mostly on On Demand). I’ve always been an Andy Samberg fan, and we think the show is just silly and fun. But I NEVER thought Andy (yeah, we’re on a first name basis) would win for Best Actor in a TV series, Comedy (even though I selected him on my sheet), and I especially NEVER thought the show would win for Best TV Series, Comedy, at the Golden Globes. I was so shocked. And excited! Ha ha, it made me feel relevant to have actually seen a show than won, as I had seen NONE of the others (but was still able to guess some correct winners). Does anyone else watch Brooklyn Nine-Nine?

  • I’ve been trying to get back in to the swing of things with posting more often. Thank you for reading and commenting… while I find my groove.

Steven and I were talking about the Golden Globes, about how it was so much fun to see people win who honestly had NO CLUE they were going to win 🙂

I think Christina’s is the most excited I have ever been for a wedding I’m not even going to (does that make any sense??) – I can’t wait for pictures and wedding posts and FUN!

I should totally track my reading. I tried goodreads but couldn’t get into it. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve brought a book home from the library and realized 100 pages in that I’ve read it before…

    • kilax says:

Yeah, there were quite a few winners like that! And then there were some really bizarro speeches. LOL.

Aww, that makes me happy! 🙂 I can’t wait to see it all together. She has such great vision – the night is going to be amazing!

You should track! How many so far this year? (Books read, not books already read that you got at the library, lol!)

      • bobbi says:

Ha! We talked about some of the crazy speeches too! Lol…

Two so far this year! Off to a good start! I want to read more this year (and things I read on a screen don’t count!)

  2. Anne says:

I actually didn’t think anything of you getting your BP done at the dentist, since you get blood work done through your gyno. I just assumed it was all part of the Kim healthcare plan 😉 (But actually, I don’t think my dentist even has a machine for that)

Once my BIL got engaged and I started talking through all the plans with his fiancee, I realized how much I love weddings! So I’m with Bobbi, excited to see how your sister’s turns out 🙂

The Golden Globes are my favorite award show, since everyone is so laid back and sloppy drunk 🙂 And I love Brooklyn Nine-Nine! It’s done by the same people who created Parks & Rec, one of my favorite shows ever. I was really surprised to see that Andy Samberg won too, definitely an underdog. See, see, I watch more than Revenge and Scandal.

    • kilax says:

Ha, but the gyno refused to reference me for blood work, remember? So I need to go to our GP if I want that, I suppose 😉

When is your BIL’s wedding? It sounds like you are excited to help out! 🙂

Ha ha ha. I was weirded out by how lit some people seemed! But there were some funny parts. Tina and Amy rocked it. And I am happy to hear you like Brooklyn Nine-Nine too! I actually pay attention, when I watch that, as opposed to Revenge. I put that on last night when I was cycling. Didn’t make it all the way through! DID VICTORIA WATCH EVERYTHING IN THE BOX?!

      • Anne says:

I think that’d be a nice thing to do for your 30th birthday – good to have a baseline! But I’ll stop nagging 🙂

September 19th! I’m excited too b/c it’s going to be a great party – Bob’s family is a ton of fun!

And no spoilers! I haven’t had a chance to watch this week’s episode, I’ve been napping after work to kick this stupid cold.

  3. Shelley B says:

They take my BP at the dentist, which irritates me because I have “white coat syndrome” and naturally it’s high, and then I get the lecture. Geez!

I love Brooklyn Nine-Nine, and loved how shocked Andy was when he won…and again, how floored the cast was when the show won. It’s a great ensemble and I think was a great choice!

    • kilax says:

That happened to me the last time I got it taken in a medical setting which is why I was so surprised it was under 120/80. In fact, I really suspect the machine was wrong. Ha ha.

It was a great choice! The show does have a wonderful ensemble. Everyone makes me laugh 🙂

  4. Xaarlin says:

    So very random 🙂

I’ve started tracking 2 new things at work this year- 1. All the projects and extra things I work on so I can better articulate what I’ve done for my year end eval. And 2. A log of every time I have to stay late- how long and the reason. Have a feeling that might make me ragey by the end of the year since 2 weeks in, I’ve already stayed late by almost 3 hours and no OT. Yay salary!

That jewelry box Bobbi gave you is beautiful!

I didn’t watch the GG… I don’t watch movies and don’t watch much TV. My goal for this year is to go with L to a movie… I can’t remember the last time I’ve been to one in a theater.

    • kilax says:

Those sound like VERY good things to track! I hope you show them before your review, maybe to help with the BS staying late for check printing.

Yeah, no point in watching if you are not in to those things! I hope you guys have a good time if you go to the movies! I know a lot of people who don’t like to go because they dislike the atmosphere (and that is why we try to go after things have been out for awhile unless it’s something I feel I need to see RIGHT AWAY or the audience would make more fun to see, like Zombieland).

  5. Marcia says:

No BP taken at the dentist for me. Although I do need to go. My BP is always crazy low. Like not even in the triple digits ever. When I was in having kids I’d set off death alarms. Love the jewelry box!
Watching the GG’s made me realize I watch nothing. I think Parks & Rec was the only show I knew.

  6. Dawn says:

Kim – love your posts/blog/writing style! Totally makes my day when I read them. “Always Kiss Me Goodnight” is a nightly ritual with Tim..I can’t sleep without that goodnight kiss…I would love to get that sign & hang in his bedroom. 🙂 Love that you track things – not dorky at all! New this year for me is tracking DQS (Diet Quality Score)…the higher score the better…doing this has helped me be even more aware of the quality of food I put in my mouth….Otherwise, its the standard things: workouts, mileage, food/calories…so boring!

  7. Valerie says:

On Andy…you surprise us every time! I’m glad we both like movies/TV so we can gossip about it 🙂 And that we share an affinity for spreadsheets hehehe. I only track workouts, clothing budgets (and financial boring stuff for our household) and wish lists.

    • kilax says:

Ooo, that house stuff doesn’t sound boring to me – what do you track?

I am glad we can talk about that stuff, too! 🙂 We have to see some of these movies to prep for the Oscars!

  8. Michelle says:

Hmmm, I wish I could say I was as organized (used to be bk-before kids) as you!!! I track my miles/work outs via dailymile, but sadly that’s about it.
So cute about the kiss goodnight, we need to do that to more often.
I LOVE movies, but don’t want TV except for Master Chef/Chopped.

  9. Kandi says:

I would never track my pages per day of reading because I’m so slow it would just make me sad. 😉
I can’t recall ever having my blood pressure checked at the dentist before. Maybe the oral surgeon but I was too drugged up to remember such things.
I love your jewelry storage! I really need to make something like that happen in my bedroom. My jewelry is a mess!
I’ve never watched Brooklyn nine-nine but we’ve talked about watching it. We’re bad at keeping up with current TV also so we’d likely watch it on demand if we end up watching it. Or on Netflix eventually.

    • kilax says:

Ha ha ha. Did you see my average? I am just happy to be reading at all 🙂

And I think being bad at keeping up with TV is actually a good thing 😉 This is the first time since before graduating high school I’ve “watched” a show since it’s first season, and it’s mostly on On Demand. I don’t really care for tv shows.

  10. Erin says:

I’ve been to…three or four different dentist’s offices in my life and none of them have ever taken my blood pressure! Which is why I was so surprised at that.

I don’t really track anything outside of work. I’m trying to keep track of my workouts but I tend to get a little obsessed and then upset and beat myself up if I don’t meet my “goals.” Which is why I didn’t track mileage for most of 2012 and 2013.

My first boyfriend in high school got me a star, too. But the framed certificate was ruined in one of our basement floods so I no longer have it. That’s neat that they sent you the jpeg of it!

I honestly don’t care enough about movies or tv to watch award shows. I like catching on shows I didn’t watch the first time around instead of what’s current. Which is why I’m watching Fringe right now 🙂

    • kilax says:

It doesn’t seem like it’s happening at the dentist for many others, either. My dad and aunt said their dental office checks theirs, but they are the only others to tell me that.

I wonder if a jpeg exists of your star, too!

I’d rather watch a show after it’s all over, than watch it on tv and have to wait. Ha ha. Which is why I am surprised we’ve been watching this show on On Demand!

  11. I’ve been going to the same dentist for over 10 years and they’ve never taken my blood pressure. Hmm??

I track the number of miles I run on a spreadsheet. I like to see how many I’ve done in a month and year. That helps me when it is time to replace my shoes.
