Random Thoughts Thursday 135

  • We finished the Rockefeller book! I will eventually post the long list of words I had to look up. There are only a few I recall without looking at my list: sobriquet, scion, and platitudinous, and only one I am using daily: scuttlebutt.
  • Next up in the “book club for two” rotation is Pour Your Heart Into It: How Starbucks Built a Company One Cup at a Time and if we like that, Onward: How Starbucks Fought for Its Life without Losing Its Soul.
  • Last weekend was our quick trip to Dallas! We had a great time with our otra familia, and got super pumped planning our next trip together (a week long summer vacation)! The Dallas trip almost didn’t happen though – our flight out of Milwaukee was canceled and there weren’t any other options out of there. Luckily American Airlines hooked me up with flights at the same times out of Chicago and back. American Airlines was so helpful and pleasant! I was stressing the eff out and they calmed me down. (Well, that, and a quick run.)

  • I mentioned I tried a spin style class at Gina’s gym on Saturday. What I didn’t mention is that a lady was sitting on the bike I reserved when I got there. You use an app to reserve a seat in advance, then all your bike data from class is linked to your account. Cool, right? Gina politely told the lady the seats are reserved and that if she sat there, all her hard work would be credited to someone else (me). The lady responded with “I’ll make your friend look good.” Ha. Ha ha ha. The lady had major beef with getting off the bike and finding another open one, even though there were other options, and we were helping her by looking at the app and telling her what was available. When we told her about the app (because Gina didn’t also didn’t know about it when she started taking the classes, and wanted to be helpful!) she said “I just work out, I don’t use computers.” OMG. It was so funny… but not really. She finally got off. She was probably annoyed she had to set up a new bike, and that I wanted to sit by my friend that I traveled 1,000 miles to see, but… sorry? I really did want to see my stats! Geesh.
  • I finally signed up for the Saturday RABGRAI ride yesterday. I am not sure what took me so long. I saw my dad this week and we discussed signing up, and when we looked at the website, we saw there is a June 1 registration deadline! Eek! I would have been so mad if I missed it. Dad and Gina signed up too!
  • Two of our kitties aren’t feeling well. Data has some strange eye booger leakage going on (I have a picture but I’ll spare ya) and Snow has a cut on his chin. Data is seeing the vet tomorrow, and I will ask them what to do about Snow. These kids. They just can’t stay out of trouble.

It’s constant with furbabies. I swear Boomer gets better healthcare than I do. I just put some neosprin on any minor cuts or bites Boomer gets.

    • kilax says:

Ha ha ha! Of course he does!

I may do that with Snow if I can’t get him in a carrier to get in! He’s a nice cat, just scared.

  2. Chaitali says:

Aww… poor kitties 🙁 I hope they’re both feeling better soon. That is so weird about the woman on the bike at the gym. I get that you may not have known the bike was reserved but then don’t double down when someone tells you about it! Glad she eventually moved.

    • kilax says:

Thank you, I hope so too!

I thought she was so strange. Gina was nice about it, too! We just figured that lady was having a hella bad day. Sucks for 7:15 am on a Saturday!

  3. Goodness gracious! I can’t believe that woman’s reaction! I get that setting up a bike isn’t the quickest process in the world, but it’s not like you were asking her to build you a space shuttle! And even if she doesn’t use computers, clearly the studio does, and I don’t think it’s unreasonable of you to want to know your own data! Good heavens. People can be so ridiculous sometimes!

I can’t wait to see your list of words! Scuttlebutt is hilarious. And man, no wonder you needed to look up words! I don’t know what any of the words you listed mean!

    • kilax says:

LOL, a space shuttle. LOLOLOLOLOLOL. She was completely ridiculous. We encountered a LOT of ridiculous people that day. Luckily since we were together, we could kind of laugh and whine about it together, rather than being 100% annoyed 😉

I love using scuttlebutt! I am relieved you didn’t know them. I really felt quite dumb at times, reading this book. I often had to look up words I do know, because the author would use the 2nd, 3rd, or 9th, or whatever meaning of them, rather than the meaning I know! Geesh!

I think it’s a huge cop out to say you don’t use computers in 2017. I mean, do you not do self-checkout at any store? OK, that lady probably still writes a check at the grocery store (PET PEEVE), so yeah…but geez, that would have been annoying to me to have to deal with her.

Hope your kitties all get to feeling 100% – and that you manage to wrangle Snow into the carrier for a vet visit. You know when he sees the carrier, he’s all “challenge accepted” LOL.

    • kilax says:

I was thinking the same thing – like you really never use computers, EVER?

Thanks! I hope so too. Now Data is leaky out of the other eye. I bet they will give us some drops!

OMG, the vet was giving me tips on getting Snow in to the carrier when I called. Very well intentioned, but I am just like… yeah, NONE of that is going to work.

I remember you saying that you had some flight troubles, so I’m glad that AA was able to relieve, rather than add to, your stress getting home!

The bike situation at the gym made me pause and think. I definitely think that lady should have not given you such a hard time about getting off the bike that you reserved, especially since you were so polite about it. It makes me wonder if she’ll come back to the class. I think if I “didn’t use computers,” that experience would make me say “Ugh, all these classes are catering towards *millennials* and their smart phones and their Twitters! Why can’t they just exercise for the sake of exercise?”

    • kilax says:

Me too! I was very grateful! I would have been sad to cancel this trip.

I bet that is what she was thinking! “Twitters”! Dying.

  6. Zenaida says:

Oh man, why do people have to make it difficult? That bike is reserved. Period. Move to another bike. Geez!!!

I hope the kitties are doing better.
