The streak LIVES!!!

By , September 15, 2015 6:23 am

There was a time this year when I thought I wouldn’t be able to run the Wisconsin Half Marathon in 2016 because of a conflicting important event that I absolutely intend on attending. I was sad at the thought of missing the race. Which seems silly, but I was. The Wisconsin Half Marathon holds a special place in my heart – it was the first half marathon I ever ran (and with Steven!) and it was the inaugural race year. I’ve run it every year since, and 2016 would be my 8th year!

Luckily, the date changed for the other event, so I can attend both. YAY! The streak lives on!

Frosty 2013

My Wisconsin Half Marathon race streak is tied with the Frosty Footrace 5K – 7 years so far, at each.

Frosty Footrace 5K Wisconsin Half Marathon
2009 27:53 1:57:47
2010 25:55 2:19:11
2011 25:00 2:05:21
2012 24:00 2:06:11
2013 23:27 1:51:15
2014 26:48 2:06:53
2015 22:58 2:06:16

Streak consistent? Yes. Pace consistent? Err…

I bet that is not a very long streak compared to other bloggers who’ve been running consistently much longer than me!

As in years past, I have a custom coupon code for any local (or non local, come join us!!!) peeps who want to run the Wisconsin Half or Full Marathon. Use WMKIM16 for $5 off either event. Registration opens today!

I wonder if that cheese man will be on the medal this year?

In full disclosure, if 10 people use my code, I will get a free race entry.

It’s funny to be thinking about a race that’s in May of next year, in September! But this race, and yes, the Frosty Footrace, are the only two I always plan to do ahead, and try as hard as I can not to miss! I wonder what year the streak will finally break?!

  1. Awww. I actually can’t attend this year and it makes me really sad. I wanted to have a little streak of my own. But it’s the weekend after the Pittsburgh Marathon and there’s just no way 🙁

I ran a half the weekend after the MKE Marathon last year and it went really well! It’s bad to plan for though. LOL! Maybe the 5K? 😛

      • I’ve thought about the 5K, but part of me feels like it just wouldn’t be the same! Distance wise it’s the only option I could stomach though! I am also considering coming to volunteer. I’m determined to make it there somehow!

        • kilax says:

Yeah, it definitely wouldn’t be. You wouldn’t get to run on the pot-holey part out to Carthage! Ha!

Volunteering is a good idea. You writing that reminds me that I still want to volunteer at a race this year. I better get on it!

  2. YAY! That IS a long streak to me- impressive! I hope to be able to do it next year! I so enjoyed it and love that it is literally right in our backyard!

  3. Joanna says:

    That is awesome!!!

  4. Ooooh – I was just thinking this morning about my race calendar for next spring, and was wondering what Wisconsin’s theme will be. Thanks for the sneak peak!!! Long live the running streaks!!!

  5. Yay! I’m excited you’ll be able to run it again! I’m very impressed by your seven-year streak at both races. Granted, I’ve only been running for four years, but I’ve had races that I’ve run every year since I began running, and by this point, some of them have gotten a little stale since I’m so used to them. To keep doing a race that many times in a row is a big deal to me!

    • kilax says:

      Thanks 🙂

You do really get used to things at a race, right? I think that is why I like these two – they’re so easy/logistically well planned 🙂

I know how much you love this race and how bummed you would be if you couldn’t do it. So I’m glad the date works out for you after all!

  7. Marcia says:

That’s an awesome streak you’ve got going. How great you’ll be able to keep it alive in 2016!

  8. jan says:

Yay! Glad it works out that you can still run both!

  9. Mica says:

Geez, I didn’t realize you’ve been doing that race for so long. It feels like it has only been a few years.

Maybe one of these years, I’ll be able to run it with you. (Though it might be too humid for me now!)

    • kilax says:

Time flies!!!! That would be fun if you could run it! Some years it has not been humid, and some years it feels like the first humid day, and it’s HORRIBLE. HA!

  10. That is so cool that you’ve run both races each year. So glad that the date for the other event changed so that you could still run the race next year.
