Random Thoughts Thursday XX

  • We did some boxing last night in my strength class (click on the link for a video). My hands are still shaking this morning. Typing is difficult today. So bizarre.

  • I have been consuming most all of my fruit in smoothie form lately. I brought a peach to eat today, and it just seems like so much work. Sigh.

  • I mentioned in July that Runner’s World contacted me about using a photo that we took in their October issue.  I saw the October issue on the newsstand this morning and the photo was not in there. Worse, it seems that they reformatted their magazine… I’m not sure how to describe it. But it looked more like a fluffy/glossy health magazine, at quick glance. Anyone else notice this?
  • Steven and I want to take a trip late this year to celebrate our five year anniversary. Let me know if you have any tips for inexpensive travel to wherever. We are open to all suggestions.
  • Anyone have any fun Labor Day plans? I am looking forward to sleeping in!!!

  2. Let’s hear more about this Corn Maze race. It sounds like fun!!!

Boo on Runners World! I haven’t been too impressed with them recently so I wasn’t sad when my subscription lapsed.

Sounds like you’re really putting your new blender to work! What’s been your favorite combination so far?

What do you want to do on your mini-vacation? Do you want to get out of the Midwest?

I like all fruit smoothies the most (as opposed to adding spinach). We made an oreo smoothie and used soy milk, but I think I need some vegan vanilla ice cream. I really like peaches with bananas 🙂

We do want to get out of the midwest! We just want to go somewhere we have never been, either to relax or explore 🙂

I didn’t renew my subscription to RW. I will have to check it out on newsstands though…

    So SAD I missed boxing!

  5. What about Milwaukee? Or Madison?

  6. Kiersten says:

Well of course I always think Maine is the perfect destination 🙂 There are some pretty inexpensive shuttles from Chicago to Portland.

    • kilax says:

We really want to visit Maine! We have been talking about it since we started dating 🙂 December is probably a bad time to go though… right?

      • kiersten says:

Well it isnt the nicest time of year 🙂 if there is snow, it is nice for snowshoeing or skiing. And anytime you want to come, I have a guest room, and offer excellent tour guide services.

        • kilax says:

If you are serious, count on me taking you up on the offer at some point. I LOVE SNOW SHOEING. I have my own. I was so bummed I didn’t get to do any this year (no snow!).

          • Kiersten says:

I am serious 🙂 I have my fingers crossed for tons o snow this year. If it’s going to be freezing, there might as well be piles of snow so you can get out and do fun things!

Chewing peaches is so messy. Fire up the smoothie maker! : ) Bummer about the photo – I was really hoping we would see in the magazine.

My trip suggestion would be California. Disneyland! Derp.

  8. J says:

We are headed to boston this weekend! I am so excited. I haven’t been there in a really long time and Brian has never been! I get to do a long run there too!

  9. Diane says:

I am going to Boston too! I am going to see my bff. 🙂
I was going to suggest New Orleans (don’t know if you’ ve been) but…uh, Hurricane Isaac.

  10. Marcia says:

I got my Oct RW yesterday and haven’t even cracked it yet. I just bought a bunch of peaches but i don’t really trust them this late in the season. Boy they were soooo good earlier this summer though. I love tooling up the shores of lake Michigan on the Michigan side for fall colors. Or were you wanting to go sooner?

    • kilax says:

We are actually wanting to go later (our calendar opens up in the beginning of December). So we are not sure if going north is a good idea or not 🙁 But we so want to travel to MI, and seeing the fall colors is right up our alley!

  11. Emily says:

Yum, smoothies. I have a love-hate relationship with smoothies because it takes some time to prep the ingredients for the smoothies, plus wash the blender and other associated dishes afterwards… but it definitely does make it easier to consume fruits via smoothie form!

I get a RW subscription through my CARA membership, but have been too busy to read any issues until recently. Is it just me, or are they getting edgier with some of their feature stories? I remember reading about Frank Shorter’s abusive childhood in some issue from awhile back, and then today I read another issue with a story about two runners who got mauled by pitbulls. Yikes!

    • kilax says:

Ha! I was thinking the same thing and was going to mention the pitbull story. I still haven’t made it through that one. I know it’s a style of writing, but it bugs me when they get in to the story, then interrupt it to tell you some statistics, then get back in to it.
